YOURLS: Your Own URL Shortener
YOURLS stands for Your Own URL Shortener. It is a small set of PHP scripts that will allow you to run your own URL shortening service (a la TinyURL or bitly). Running your own URL shortener is fun, geeky and useful: you own your data and don't depend on third party services. It's also a great way to add branding to your short URLs, instead of using the same public URL shortener everyone uses.

Brackets: The Open Source Code Editor for the Web | Brackets
The current build of Brackets only supports Google Chrome for Live File Preview, but we hope to make this same connection to other browsers simultaneously with a little help from the browser makers. We prototyped support for the live editing of HTML and JavaScript and plan to include this ability in a future build. Just check out the public backlog to see what we’re working on next.

We need your help. There is a lot of work to do before Brackets is ready to be your favorite code editor. We want Brackets to be a truly open project, so we decided to develop Brackets in the open as soon as possible. So on May 1 we opened up our github repositories and started taking pull requests from the general community. We also posted our entire backlog of ideas and future features on Trello.

Open Source PHP database front-end / CRUD for MySQL SQLite PostgreSQL - Create a PHP database application in a minute without coding - |\.-./| DaDaBIK is a DataBase Interfaces Kreator
aDaBIK is a very popular and mature Open Source PHP application which allows you to easily create a highly customizable database front-end/application without coding. You can use it to create in a few minutes a very basic CRUD (create, read, update, delete) database front-end or to develop a more sophisticated database application.
No programming skills are needed to use it; if however you are a PHP programmer with DaDaBIK you can save tens of hours of work.

With DaDaBIK (differently from many competitors) you don't produce a PHP script, which would become outdated when you modify the schema of your database, but instead you directly use its abstraction layer that can be easily updated every time you modify your database's schema.

DaDaBIK uses the ADOdb and the PDO database abstraction libraries in order to support as many DBMSs as possible, at the moment it officially supports MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite.

Vanish: Enhancing the Privacy of the Web with Self-Destructing Data
Vanish is a research system designed to give users control over the lifetime of personal data stored on the web or in the cloud. Specifically, all copies of Vanish encrypted data — even archived or cached copies — will become permanently unreadable at a specific time, without any action on the part of the user or any third party or centralized service.

For example, using the Firefox Vanish plugin, a user can create an email, a Google Doc document, a Facebook message, or a blog comment — specifying that the document or message should "vanish" in 8 hours. Before that 8-hour timeout expires, anyone who has access to the data can read it; however after that timer expires, nobody can read that web content — not the user, not Google, not Facebook, not a hacker who breaks into the cloud service, and not even someone who obtains a warrant for that data. That data — regardless of where stored or archived prior to the timeout — simply self-destructs and becomes permanently unreadable.

Whoosh
Whoosh is as fast or faster at indexing as other Python search libraries that wrap C or Java libraries (e.g. PyLucene?, Xappy), and not that much slower at searching. In my preliminary tests, a typical single-term search takes 0.003 seconds in Xappy, while Whoosh takes 0.01 seconds. The Whoosh index was less than 4 MB, while the Xappy/Xapian index was 30 MB on disk.

Personal computing is currently in a state of transition. While traditionally users have interacted mostly with desktop applications, more and more of them are using web applications. But the latter often fit awkwardly into the document-centric interface of web browsers. And they are surrounded with controls–like back and forward buttons and a location bar–that have nothing to do with interacting with the application itself.
