"Parks operations have faced greater scrutiny in recent months since Mayor John Cranley and parks leaders asked voters to approve a permanent levy for the system. The charter amendment was turned down by voters at a 2-to-1 margin."

Cincinnati parks director on levy projects cost estimate: ‘I don’t know if you can even call it ballpark’
“Each day brings more revelations about the mayor’s ‘transformative plans’ for our city parks. Parks director Carden acknowledged to me that the park board has no detailed plans for the projects on Mayor Cranley’s list and has no idea where the cost figures came from.”

Park Board bonuses raise questions
"A new Enquirer investigation, however, finds the nonprofit paid an additional $104,000 worth of bonuses in 2010 and 2011 to one of those officials, Cincinnati Parks Executive Director Willie Carden. The money was funneled from public sources into the private entity's account at a time Carden was running both the public parks department and the private nonprofit."

Cincinnati park levy supporters: City Council will get a say on projects
"Opponents say the mayor will be given too much authority over what projects are selected and funded. Supporters say a reading of state law, the city charter and the charter amendment should settle the issue and allay opponents’ fears. But the anti-levy group, Save Our Parks, does not agree with supporters’ interpretation of the law or its practical political implications."

Luken out, Rhoads in for Cincinnati park levy debate
"The Enquirer asked Mayor John Cranley, a leader of the pro-levy effort, to take part, but Kamrass said the mayor would only participate if he wasn’t on the stage at the same time as the opposition and if he went last. The opposing side objected to the latter condition."

Opinion: City needs spending plan, not just a park tax
”First, it seems perhaps misleading to call this a ‘park tax.’ Many of the items in this plan have little to do with parks and raise the question if they might be pet projects. [...] In the current proposal, it appears the Park Board/Foundation only get a portion of the revenues, the rest controlled by the mayor and city council, etc.”
