3 Teenagers on How to Quit Social Media
Given the magnitude of this status quo, it takes a particular kind of courage to chart a different path. What’s it like to be young and offline? I asked three teenagers who don’t use social media about why they made that decision, how they stuck to it and what impact it’s had on their lives.

Startups be warned: Something weird happens to companies when they hit 150 people
“There is no question that the dynamics of organizations change once they exceed about 150 or so,” says Dunbar. “The Hutterites deliberately split their communities at this size in order to avoid having to have both hierarchies and a police force. Keeping things below 150 means you can manage the system by peer pressure, whereas above 150 you need some kind of top down, discipline-based management system.”

At a startup, once the staff exceeds 150 people, employees are no longer the single, cohesive, culture-reinforcing unit they were during the company’s earliest days. Staffers become more specialized and entrenched with their teams, which are probably sprawled across an office, perhaps on multiple floors or in several locations.

The Dunbar Number as a Limit to Group Sizes
The chasm that starts somewhere between 9 to 12 people can be especially daunting for a small business. As you grow past 12 or so employees, you must start specializing and having departments and direct reports; however, you are not quite large enough for this to be efficient, and thus much employee time that you put toward management tasks is wasted. Only as you approach and pass 25 people does having simple departments and managers begin to work again, as it starts to really make sense for department heads to spend significant time just communicating and coordinating (and as individual departments become large enough to once again allow for the dynamic exchange of ideas that had previously occurred in the original 5-9 member seed group).

How Facebook Figures Out Everyone You've Ever Met
Behind the Facebook profile you’ve built for yourself is another one, a shadow profile, built from the inboxes and smartphones of other Facebook users. Contact information you’ve never given the network gets associated with your account, making it easier for Facebook to more completely map your social connections.

Rules for Social Media, Created by Kids
While parents sometimes impose guidelines, the most important ones are those that children make. They are often unspoken and can be dizzying.

Social Media Sharing Buttons. No JavaScript. No tracking. Super fast and easy.
This generator outputs social media sharing buttons that do not use JavaScript, which means they load incredibly fast (they only use a single HTTP request), don't block your website from rendering, are accessible and don't track the user. (Also, they look nice and follow the brand guidelines where applicable!)

Responsible Social Share Links
Social share scripts are convenient and easy to copy & paste but rely on JavaScript and add additional overhead to your site, which means more HTTP requests and slower load times. Instead, use share links that don’t require you to load scripts for each social site.

Social Networking as Peer Surveillance by Ashe Dryden
But we shouldn’t discount what participating in social networks means for our identities. Can we celebrate and share our identities – all the little pieces that make us who we are – without sacrificing our privacy and safety? Are our identities forever altered by defiantly living within the Panopticon?

GOV.UK social sharing buttons: the first 10 weeks
From the figures, it’s fair to say that the introduction of sharing buttons didn’t exactly set the world alight. Overall sharing rates using the buttons are pretty low, way less than 1 percent. However, there is evidence that social sharing buttons can be substantially more useful for people using mobile phones than on desktops;
