The Painting Center
A small, non-profit cultural organization in a large metropolitan area, The Painting Center helps to unite working artists and engage them in conversations about art, culture, and the challenges of painting in a rapidly changing world. The Painting Center provides a much-needed service through its singular commitment to painting. Dedicated to promoting under-served artists and promoting creative dialogue rather than commercial profit, The Painting Center provides an important stepping-stone for artists. It recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding painters, including younger and older artists who are under-recognized. We also provide community service to high school students with a strong interest in art by educating them on working in a non-profit organization and gallery.

Rare Book and Special Collections Reading Room (Library of Congress)
The Rare Book and Special Collections Division traces its beginnings to Thomas Jefferson's wish to create a library for statesmen and for the people of the new nation. After the British burned the Capitol and its library in 1814, Jefferson offered to sell his book collection to Congress. Congress appropriated money for the purchase, and Jefferson's collection served as the foundation for the new Library of Congress in 1815. Jefferson's books--in several languages and covering a great variety of subjects--today form the nucleus of the division.

The Manhattan Graphics Center (MGC) was founded in 1986 by a group of 20 printmakers who banded together to create a collaborative workshop. They found a loft space on lower Broadway in Soho, and with their own labor and ingenuity were able to create and operate the studio - a tradition that continues to this day. Since the time of its opening, MGC has been run by volunteer artist members (known as key-holders) who staff and maintain the facility 7 days a week, year-round.
