Launched in 2010, Colossal is a Webby-nominated blog that explores art and other aspects of visual culture. Colossal won the Utne Media Award for Arts Coverage in 2013. Each week you’ll find 15-25 posts on photography, design, animation, painting, installation art, architecture, drawing, and street art. Colossal is also a great place to learn about the intersection of art and science as well as the beauty of the natural world. There are frequently posts about things far out in left field, but generally Colossal is a reminder that in the digital age there are still countless people making incredible work with their bare hands.

Designing an MBA: creative focused business thinking
As a designer/maker, your business has its own set of special needs. But at the same time, you can’t neglect the fact that it is a business. What's standing in the way of you and success may not be your talent as a crafter, but rather your skills as a business person.

At crafting an MBA, the goal is to help you polish those basic skills (like business planning and bookkeeping), develop a marketing plan (online and off), and help keep you up to date with trends in the business world – while also helping develop skills specific to a craft based business (selling online, craft shows, trade shows, and promoting your portfolio).

It also provides tips on how to negotiate the best deals and how and what to charge for work, and includes sample contracts. For design and illustration professionals, there is no more comprehensive and informative resource.

The Artist's Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What You Love
Too many talented visual artists feel lost or frustrated professionally because they lack fundamental business skills and the confidence to promote themselves and manage their career. The Artist's Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What you Love provides artists with the information, tools and techniques for developing and sustaining a professional life. It introduces valuable tactics - from planning and assessment to time management and negotiation - which are seldom offered to visual artists in ways that are relevant to their practice. Author, Jackie Battenfield, an artist who has supported herself from art sales for over twenty years, teaches career development programs for visual artists at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Creative Capital Foundation, and Columbia University.

W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund, INC.
W. Eugene Smith learned the hard way that photography could be too easy, a matter of making expert images of interesting subjects. He set himself to learn the truth – about himself as well as his subjects. In the process, he produced a series of photographic essays, for LIFE and other publications, whose passionate involvement set a standard for what photography can be. Gene Smith was a loner, a driving and driven man, who bucked the system of which he was a part. Some say he sacrificed his career, and himself, on an altar of self-destructive idealism. When he died at the age of 59 in 1978, he had $18 in the bank. But his name had become synonymous with integrity. His work was his memorial.

Aaron Siskind Foundation
Photographer and educator Aaron Siskind (1903-1991) holds a preeminent place in the history of American photography. Beginning his photographic career in the 1930?s as a social documentarian with the New York Photo League, he ultimately radicalized the medium by emphasizing the photograph as an abstract form of expression and an aesthetic end in itself. Siskind taught in New York City's public schools for 25 years before becoming recognized as a photographer and then a gifted pioneer of photographic education. His vision and methods have and will continue to inspire and instruct future generations of artists and teachers.

Monya Rowe Gallery
Monya Rowe Gallery was founded in 2003 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The gallery occupied a 225 square-foot space in a warehouse building for eight months before relocating to a larger exhibition space in Chelsea on West 26th Street. In November 2008, to improve accessibility and expand the exhibition space, we relocated to West 22nd Street. The gallery focuses on exhibiting emerging artists working in all mediums, and aims to build and foster the careers of a small group of artists who are making significant and unique contributions to contemporary art by offering an important political and social discourse. Each year, we invite a guest artist or curator to organize an exhibition. Past "curators" have included Nayland Blake, Jose Lerma and Amy Sillman.

Poketo Art for Your Everyday
Born out of a belief in “art for your everyday,” Poketo is an online destination and brick and mortar shop for design-driven wares that take art off the gallery walls and into people’s lives.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Ted Vadakan and Angie Myung, Poketo (pronounced poh-KEH-toe) got its name through Angie’s Korean grandmother’s mispronunciation of “pocket.” Since 2003, Poketo has grown from an upstart creative enterprise known for their limited-edition vinyl artist wallets to a leading lifestyle brand that retains its indie vibe.

June of 2012, Poketo opened its first brick and mortar shop/gallery in Arts District part of Downtown Los Angeles. They carry all the goods that on poketo.com but also have exclusives that can only be found at the store.
