En influencer måste väl få unna sig? – Arbetet

Stop the online conspiracy theorists before they break democracy | Julia Ebner | Opinion | The Guardian
Beyond inspiring attacks on perceived enemies, the spread of conspiracy theories can, in the long-term, sow societal divisions and undermine confidence in democratic processes, institutions and representatives. At a time when distrust in the political establishment runs exceptionally high, it is easy to tap into existing suspicions and fill information gaps with fabricated news and distorted statistics.

Study finds a potential risk with self-driving cars: failure to detect dark-skinned pedestrians - Vox
The report, “Predictive Inequity in Object Detection,” should be taken with a grain of salt. It hasn’t yet been peer-reviewed. It didn’t test any object-detection models actually being used by self-driving cars, nor did it leverage any training datasets actually being used by autonomous vehicle manufacturers. Instead, it tested several models used by academic researchers, trained on publicly available datasets. The researchers had to do it this way because companies don’t make their data available for scrutiny — a serious issue given that this a matter of public interest.

Mind my Picasso… superyacht owners struggle to protect art | News | The Guardian
Another of Kriesel’s clients had a piece by the Japanese modern artist Takashi Murakami that he wanted to display in the “beach club” – the rear of superyachts where owners access jet skis and other water toys – but again it was the wrong size. “In the end we cut it up to make it fit,” he said.

Amazon asked to explain why it promotes vaccine misinformation - The Verge
Haelle’s own, evidence-based book for young adults, Vaccination Investigation: The History and Science of Vaccines, comes up ninth in the “vaccination” search results. Though Haelle is not particularly concerned about her own book’s placement, she is concerned that non-evidence-based books are burying ones containing accurate data. “While I realize Amazon’s algorithms are based on popularity and other user characteristics, the end result of the algorithm is to lead parents astray with more misinformation,” she says.

The secret lives of Facebook moderators in America - The Verge
Fearing for his safety, Randy began bringing a concealed gun to work. Fired employees regularly threatened to return to work and harm their old colleagues, and Randy believed that some of them were serious. A former coworker told me she was aware that Randy brought a gun to work, and approved of it, fearing on-site security would not be sufficient in the case of an attack.

Opinion | Time to Panic - The New York Times
That climate change demands expertise, and faith in it, at precisely the moment when public confidence in expertise is collapsing is one of its many paradoxes. That climate change touches so many of our cognitive biases is a mark of just how big it is and how much about human life it touches, which is to say, nearly everything.

And unfortunately, as climate change has been dawning more fully into view over the past several decades, all the cognitive biases that push us toward complacency have been abetted by our storytelling about warming — by journalism defined by caution in describing the scale and speed of the threat.

The Teens Who Listen to ‘Mallwave’ Are Nostalgic for an Experience They’ve Never Had - MEL Magazine
There is, of course, a current of anti-capitalist sentiment in mallwave. Artists like Infinity Frequencies, MEDIAFIRED and 情報デスクVIRTUAL purposely use outdated, cheesy 1980s pop samples as a way of critiquing the origins of modern Western capitalism, mirroring the “irony” of hipsters who, in the words of music journalist Simon Chandler, “made the flawed world around them bearable not by changing it, but by treating its flaws as something to be laughed at from afar.”
