For the record, he had told a client “every extra thing we take on, no matter how small, takes time away from bug fixing and polish on the things that we’ve already committed to doing”.

It was the best articulation of that statement I had heard to date.

Or since.

I learned the phrase “here’s the bad version” from @dwiskus and I use it all the time: when you know you’re on to something important but haven’t nailed it yet. You present what you have knowing there will be objections but you’re looking for help to perfect it.

I was also at this talk, which hugely tempered my reaction to the investment news. https://t.co/44erUJ6bRn

Regarding the @1Password investment, they’ve provided us with an amazing product for a hell of a long time and that they owe us very little beyond that.

They’ve walked a hell of a hard road and been successful, but I don’t know what kind of toll it’s taken on them to do it.

The 17” MacBook Pro was referred inside of Apple as “The Lexington” and it’s good to see the return of its spiritual successor.

Sticking with my 15”, though.

Increasingly dissatisfied with my iMac. Nice screen driven by subpar graphics hardware. Pretty much ready for a hacintosh or Mac Pro with two external monitors. Don’t have to be Apple displays at this point.

TIL: if your iPhone screen becomes unresponsive and you can’t reboot it, you can force a restart:

hit volume up quickly, hit volume down quickly, and then press and hold the side button.https://t.co/ragwe52M9n

If you don’t think there’s room for improvements in tech, find a PhD and ask them how often they have to ask IT why they can’t print anymore.

Feedback I have gotten so far:
- Swift is a huge improvement over objective c for newcomers to the platform
- @clattner_llvm continues to be actively involved in Swift
- Swift is supported STRONGLY by old-guard, NeXT-veteran engineers at Apple.

At Black Pixel, I mandated that we get on board with Swift and get ahead of the crowd on it, simultaneously knowing that it not a great move on Apple’s part.

But it was where things were going and we could get ahead of it or get left in the dust.
