Palm Keyboard interface board
"Both their size and low power usage make them ideal for QRP ham radio applications. One obvious application is as a Morse Code keyboard. However there is one problem with these keyboards: they do not use a standard 9 or 25 pin D connector as most serial interfaces do. The Palm Keyboard interface board is an inexpensive way to try out these keyboards with your own PIC or other hardware."
(this is more of a reference, as the board is sold out)

Nodes - our story
"a JavaScript-based 2D canvas for computational thinking. It's powered by the npm ecosystem and lives on the web. "

it certainly looks neat, but as lobsters notes: "without any info about availability, pricing (if there will be an open source/nonprofit free version), etc. it’s hard to feel any excitement."

This page is probably worth archiving just to show use-cases and how they implemented their debug views.

GitHub - palewire/nrol-39-logo: A vector PDF of the official mission logo of NROL-39
@palewire: Alright, nerds

I filed a FOIA appeal and won the infamous NROL-39 surveillance satellite logo as a PDF.

This ain't a scanned powerpoint. This is a resizable vector. You know what you must do. Unleash the swag.

(the logo is that of an octopus encircling the Earth. The Cthulu jokes write themselves.)

Modern C for C++ Peeps
Good stuff for C99:
- compound literals, designated initialization
- don't be afraid to pass-by-value!
- named optional arguments
- easier ways to avoid pointers for data blobs: use tagged index handles, embrace "dumb data, smart functions"!

Complexity Reduction of Catmull-Clark/Loop Subdivision Surfaces
the core use of subdiv in Verse/LOVE
"The largest shortcoming of this
algorithm is that flat areas with curved edges tend to be
over tessellated. This is something we intend to combat
by having a separate set of look up tables for flat
polygons. Another potential problem is that the
algorithm can never reduce the mesh below its control
mesh polygon count. Still it produces very good results
especially with architectural objecs. The biggest
features with this algorithm is of course that it is fast,
contains no iterative searching and that all data can be
stored in arrays since there are no insert/delete
operations, something that 3D hardware APIs such as
OpenGL like. The biggest problem is that the algorithm
is so large and contains so many steps that it becomes
very hard to implement and debug. In the future we
would like to try to instead of generating a look-up
table generate compliable code that would contain the
tessellation information to see if there is a possible
speed gain. "

Also apparently there's a Perfect Memories book? And a comment in the thread that the movie came first, and its script was part of a contest for a Godzilla film but it lost to the Biollante script.

DIY Light-up LED Dress With Color Changing (RGB) LEDs
"My niece wanted to be a princess for Halloween in 2016 so I decided to make her something unique, a color changing light-up LED dress. I over-complicated the build as what normally happens normally the first time you make something. I learned a lot from the process and many ways to improve upon the design, hopefully I can help someone else looking to make an LED dress. All in I spent about $120, $45 of which were the dress and petticoat."

Roads and Bridges: The Unseen Labor Behind Our Digital Infrastructure
Phenomenal report on current OSS practices and business.
"Our modern society runs on software. But the tools we use to build software are buckling under increased demand. [...] In the face of unprecedented demand, the costs of not supporting our digital infrastructure are numerous. No individual company or organization is incentivized to address the public good problem alone. In order to support our digital infrastructure, we must find ways to work together."

"The new CALIPSO communication protocol software enables toys to discover other objects, build mobile ad hoc networks, and communicate in a very energy-efficient way to maximize their battery lifetime. We envision several Disney-related scenarios in which the software will help creating innovative toy play patterns and experience designs. Disney Research’s main contribution to Calipso is the new Multi-Hop Power Saving Mode for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. "
