Designing the Digital Workplace for the End-to-End Employee Experience
"Thus I still see many too many workers that in their day-to-day jobs still have to focus on spending much of their time feeding their work systems manually, via import/export and numerous other means, cobbling together an ad hoc experience across dozens of apps, just to prepare to begin their jobs for the day, instead of focusing on the more strategic higher-order knowledge work at hand."

Workplace by Facebook continues to mature - by @ron_miller
"At the F8 conference today, Facebook announced a bunch of updates to its Workplace by Facebook team communications tool, including a slew of new partnerships and new bot integrations, which all show a product that’s maturing to meet the needs of larger enterprise customers."

Workplace by Facebook begins to take shape - by @ron_miller
"While Ryan makes it clear that Workplace wants to connect the entire company, Pelz-Sharpe says Facebook still faces some serious challenges achieving that goal. “Resistance to Workplace by Facebook will not come just from the perception of it being a consumer social tool for time-wasting (largely by older people — it is not a millennial tool), but from its past approach of growth at all costs and figuring out the consequences later.”

Microsoft Teams and Slack point to the future of collaboration - by @dt
"Slack’s success highlights a key problem for our existing collaboration software options. They are more difficult to use than they should be. On top of that, the digital workplace is a mess. Alongside whatever we use for team collaboration, we access a whole host of disparate corporate systems with differing interfaces to get the job done. Slack has the ease of use and frictionless set up of the consumer apps we all used to on our smartphones and tablets."

Facebook is about to learn the enterprise is a different animal - by @ron_miller
"Still, it needs to sustain this over time, and running Software as a Service is not the same as running a consumer social network. It requires a much higher level of customer orientation, putting the customer first and listening to their needs, something Facebook has done poorly with consumers."

Barclays doing Digital differently - by @dt
"The Brighton Lab provides a home for business advisors, brokers, web site designers, and businesses creating new apps and digital services. It hosts 2 permanent offices with 4 staff in each, has 2 meeting spaces for hire or use by the members, a maker space, and the main area supports 25 co-workers. They’ve linked to the local maker community and provide a hub for emerging technology in the local community. Compared to their peers, Barclays are thinking differently, and doing digital differently."

Slack is 2016’s hottest startup, but can it make the leap to big enterprise?
"A similar case could be made for Box, another company Hamid has invested in: The cloud-storage company has to convert free customers to paid to be successful. “It’s similar,” Hamid said. “But at Slack, it’s faster and at a higher conversion rate than anything seen before.” A third of free users convert to paid, he said, a sign that the tool fills a need that existed well before it came along."

Future of Work – a Blockchain primer - by @dt
"Part of the problem with talking Blockchain is that commentary on it is often strongly tied to the digital currency that it supports – Bitcoin. That single implementation overwhelms most explanations of the underlying technology. I’ve looked at a lot of explanations generated over the last year and come away puzzled, but the best I’ve found is from Mike Gault on re/code on July 5."
