txt.fyi
This is the dumbest publishing platform on the web.

Write something, hit publish, and it's live.

There's no tracking, ad-tech, webfonts, analytics, javascript, cookies, databases, user accounts, comments, friending, likes, follower counts or other quantifiers of social capital. The only practical way for anyone to find out about a posting is if the author links to it elsewhere.

But it is legible, no-nonsense static hypertext, good for short stories, not-short-enough tweets and adventures and all your numbers station or internet dead drop needs. Here you can scream into the void and know the form of your voice is out there forever.

Search engines are instructed not to index posts and I'll do my best to make sure this isn't used as a tool by spammers or other abusers. Nonetheless, posting will be turned off if anything bad grows out of it.

Use basic Markdown to format posts: #header, **bold**, *italic*, `code`, >quote, and hyperlinks in the format [link](http://example.com). Try !hacker and !professor and !timestamp too.

FontCode
We introduce FontCode, an information embedding technique for text documents. Provided a text document with specific fonts, our method embeds user-specified information in the text by perturbing the glyphs of text characters while preserving the text content. We devise an algorithm to choose unobtrusive yet machine-recognizable glyph perturbations, leveraging a recently developed generative model that alters the glyphs of each character continuously on a font manifold. We then introduce an algorithm that embeds a user-provided message in the text document and produces an encoded document whose appearance is minimally perturbed from the original document. We also present a glyph recognition method that recovers the embedded information from an encoded document stored as a vector graphic or pixel image, or even on a printed paper. In addition, we introduce a new error-correction coding scheme that rectifies a certain number of recognition errors. Lastly, we demonstrate that our technique enables a wide array of applications, using it as a text document metadata holder, an unobtrusive optical barcode, a cryptographic message embedding scheme, and a text document signature.

Loripsum.net - The 'lorem ipsum' generator that doesn't suck.
In publishing and graphic design, placeholder text is commonly used to demonstrate the elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. Even though using "lorem ipsum" often arouses curiosity because of its resemblance to classical Latin, it is not intended to have meaning. Where text is visible in a document, people tend to focus on the textual content rather than upon overall presentation, so publishers use lorem ipsum when displaying a typeface or design elements and page layout in order to direct the focus to the publication style and not the meaning of the text. Read more at Wikipedia/Lorem_ipsum.

But, aren't there already a lot of Lipsum generators out there?

Yes, there are quite a few.

However, all of these lack features, or are too limited:

Customization: Most generators only output paragraphs of about the same length. Sometimes you need lists, headings, long paragraphs, short paragraphs, etc. The website/magazine that you're designing probably isn't going to be filled with uniform paragraphs, so your placeholder text should reflect that.

API: Loripsum.net has an API to generate placeholder text to insert it in whatever software/webapp you want. See below for details.

The same results, all the time: Most generators output the same results, every time you request some text. Loripsum.net uses the full text of Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum" to make sure you get a different placeholder text every single time.

MathBox² — Acko.net
How do you convince web developers—heck, people in general—to care about math? This was the challenge underlying Making Things With Maths, a talk I gave three years ago. I didn't know either, I just knew why I liked this stuff: demoscene, games, simulation, physics, VR, … It had little to do with what passed for mathematics in my own engineering education. There we were served only eyesore PowerPoints or handwritten overhead transparencies, with simplified graphs, abstract flowcharts and rote formulas, available on black and white photocopies.

Smart people who were supposed to teach us about technology seemed unable to teach us with technology. Fixing this felt like a huge challenge where I'd have to start from scratch. This is why the focus was entirely on showing rather than telling, and why MathBox 1 was born. It's how this stuff looks and feels in my head, and how I got my degree: by translating formulas into mental pictures, which I could replay and reason about on demand.

Poke, throw, roll and watch as they disappear into a dimension you can't see.
Get an intuitive feel for how four-dimensional objects behave:

In this case the 4th dimension is not time but a 4th dimension of space that works just like the first three dimensions we are familiar with. If you count time these toys are 5D.
It turns out that the rules of how objects bounce, slide and roll around can be generalized to any number of dimensions, and this toy lets you experience what that would look like.

How to Create Direction-Aware CSS-Only Hover Effects by Gabrielle Wee on CodePen
My design partner and I stumbled across the Kikk Festival homepage back in 2015, which featured these awesome parallax hover cards. We loved the look and wanted to recreate it in a project, but due to the nature of the codebase, wouldn't be able to use Javascript to get it right. Undeterred, I began searching for solutions that were CSS-only, and stumbled across something interesting.

One of the most fascinating CSS selectors for me is the ~ tilde, which selects the nearest element that matches the selector and is preceeded by the first. For example, ul ~ p selects the third element in

I realized that I could use this to create direction-aware hover effects for virtually anything!

ImageCodr.org
Flickr hosts millions of images that are licensed under a Creative Commons license or are in the public domain (Flickr Commons). Depending on the license, you may use the images on your private or commercial webpage, or can make changes to it.

If you want to use these images, you need to to the following:

Make sure you understood the license correctly
Get the correct HTML code for the IMG tag
Link the image back to the Flickr photo page
Give the author of the image proper credits (Attribution)
Link to the Flickr profile of the author
Link to the license the image is licensed under
With ImageCodr.org, there is no need to do all this manually, you simply enter in the URL of the picture page (as seen in your browser) you are interested in and ImageCodr.org will generate the ready to use HTML code. It will also display a brief and easy license summary, so you don't get in legal trouble because you missed something.

TimeLineCurator
Want to make a visual timeline, but don't have the time to draw one manually? Or maybe you have some documents, but you're not sure if the events they depict form a compelling timeline?

TimeLineCurator quickly and automatically extracts temporal references in freeform text to generate a visual timeline. You can then interactively curate the events in this timeline until you are satisfied, or quickly decide that there is no interesting temporal structure within the document. You can also create a mashup of multiple documents against each other to compare their temporal structure.

Already using TimelineJS? TimeLineCurator works with TimelineJS: instead of tediously assembling your timeline in a spreadsheet, TimeLineCurator allows you to curate your timeline visually. When you are ready, you can export your curated timeline to a TimelineJS widget that you can embed on your website or blog.
