Copper Area News Publishers providing news coverage for Eastern Pinal and Southern Gila Counties | Sept. 10 Oracle State Park event begins centennial celebrations for the Steward Observatory - Copper Area News Publishers providing news coverage for Easte
Because an Oracle woman could see the dark skies above Oracle at her home, she founded the Steward Observatory on the University of Arizona campus. On October 18, 1916, newspapers announced that an anonymous donor had donated $60,000 (today’s equivalent, about $1.33 M) for the purpose. After her death on August 10, 1917, Lavinia Steward was revealed as the donor who had given the money in memory of her husband who had died 15 years earlier.

History - Steward Observatory
Steward Observatory was officially established in 1916 through the foresight and perseverance of its first director, Andrew Ellicott Douglass. Douglass had come to Arizona in 1894 under the sponsorship of Percival Lowell. He was tasked to establish an astronomical observatory which became Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff. After he joined the University of Arizona faculty in 1906, Douglas sought to build an observatory in southern Arizona. Steward Observatory was made possible by the generous bequest made by Mrs. Lavinia Steward in memory of her late husband, Henry B. Steward. The Steward gift was used to build an observatory on an isolated tract of university land -- a former ostrich farm. Its construction, delayed by World War I, was finally dedicated in 1923. The 36" diameter Newtonian telescope was the first astronomical telescope to have been built using All-American made products.

After looking quite a bit this was my first guess purchase for next keyboard. I like the programming, maintainability and open source nature of some of the other keyboards (ergodox for example) so so much - but after years of tented/split keyboard use (plus AutoHotkey for some macro/remap) I strongly suspect that for a 'work desk' (ie not gaming/multimedia/multi-use) that the flat plane that most keyboards are build off of is simple and works but is also a real limitation. Maybe open source hardware with more interesting designs will come with more 3D printing options in the next few years.
