Not conclusively "ice", but it appears water is solid inside CNT's at room temperatures. Which might allow "water wires" with high conductivity. But they aren't quite sure how the water gets inside the nanotube in the first place...

So spider silk has a watery glue that also functions as a local spool to pull in loose silk thread. Now that has been emulated with oil droplets and plastic filament.

Hydraulic Hydro Storage: The Optimal Energy Storage System
Interesting take on pumped hydro, using a giant solid stone piston for the compression mass, cut using an upper and lower ring tunnel connected by a wire saw. So basically an excavate in place scheme for a high mass, rather than say Gravity Power, which uses a vertical TBM and an artificial (concrete?) piston. Still uses water as the working fluid, no indication if this is closed loop. Some of the drawings even show the piston cut from the ground surface, which means as you store energy, this giant cylinder rock mass rises from the ground like a mountain...

Welding Engineering and Laser Processing Centre
These guys are working with Lockheed on Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAMM) techniques for 3D metal printer hardware ,particularly titanium. Their innovation is running the wire through a robot arm with a welding head on the end, allowing more pinpoint extrusion of metal droplets for more complex 3D shapes, rather than conventional fixed head vertical drop moving table type setups.

Using an extruded filament method, they build up titanium parts, like making a clay pot from rolled tubes of clay (when you don't have a turning table to make a regular pot). Similar to traditional extruder 3D printers, but it isn't a full melt/fusion type. It might be more akin to the concrete contour crafting tricks. Thermally it might be easier than traditional 3D metal printers, which use a metal powder buildup with sintering, when they are otherwise not directly melting/fusing via laser. Are these parts as good as traditional heavy press closed die forgings though?
