Using the edge of the atmosphere as a surface interface, which can be manipulated with pulse lasers to be physically shaped into lens shapes to fiddle with optics. So can be used as a focuser for lasers and ground observation telescopes, and as a diffuser for self protection/obfuscation of space assets.

Highly efficient and ultra-broadband graphene oxide ultrathin lenses with three-dimensional subwavelength focusing : Nature Communications : Nature Publishing Group
Sorta breaking the diffraction limit for ultrathin flat lens in a more manufacturable format, with fresnel rings being laser etched. I wonder if this would be applicable to DARPA MOIRE project, assuming you could make a large monolithic thin film of graphene.

Riken's press release on the Fresnel lens solar thermal wankel rotary heat engine. Apparently the lens tech is fairly advanced, being developed as a telephoto lens for observing high energy cosmic rays, with high optical transparency and a surface roughness less than 20nm. They used a three sided lens structure (top plate and two vertical plates), called a "Fresnel Sun House" to gather light well onto a T shaped thermal absorber/heat exchanger, even when the sun is close to the horizon at sunrise/sunset.

Interesting way of making huge primary telescopes, using holographic sheet diffraction ratings, suitable for space telescopes. I wonder if the reverse works, shining a high power laser back out the scope to achieve a wide aperture primary.

New trick, using gold nanoantennas embedded in thin film silicon to turn a flat sheet into a near diffraction limited optical lens. Wide bandwidth too. Applicable for IR. Usable for large aperture beam expanders for a long range laser? But the demo seems to be a 1cm lens, and they are only seeing 1-10% efficiency.

Apparently they have somehow moved the display optics lens from an external lightguide prism/lens/optic that sits in front of the eye to a contact lens on the eye. Not the actual display itself though, like some form of transparent OLED printed on a contact lens (which unfortunately has data/power transfer issues).
