Considering most "rivers" and "brooks" are concrete ditches in japan, it's not that big of a deal to put in a small waterwheel for auxiliary power. I think the trick would be to design in energy storage at the waterwheel to be released during the daytime, if the water wheels are located in more rural areas. Possibly a simpler route to test early distributed grid generation capacity?
