Maintaining global state in AWS Lambda functions with Async Hooks
so, if you absolutely need global state, but rigging that up with other AWS stuff is problematic, you might be able to get away with this...

Somebody finally delivers the restaurant concept of a noodle joint doing noodles from all over the world, because sometimes you want italian, sometimes you want thai, sometimes something else, but you have a hankering for string like carbohydrates

Hyperboria.net - the decentralized network powered by CJDNS
Interesting, a p2p overlay network like freenet, but you explicitly connect to other nodes, and can kick/ban other nodes (potentially by the traffic they pass to you). But all that does is create pressure to make a "white" net to keep your reputation clean, and a separate "black" that holds everything else. But since all the interesting/subversive stuff will be in the blacknet, mere use will associate you with terrorists/pirates/pedophiles. Just like freenet, since one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. Isn't a tor hidden service enough?

Marketing Competition Japan | Japan is going global again!!!
Being in Kobe is a bit of a pain, but a good concept to get japanese actually thinking globally, and having usable english conversation/presentation skills. Japanese people have a tendency to have terrible presentation skills.

Japan’s Workers: Please Don’t Send Me Abroad. Ever. - Japan Real Time - WSJ
So I've been hunting for this survey info ever since I half forgotten it. This is bad, in the sense that there are long term implications. A relatively self sustaining country, in terms of resources and exports, can afford to become someward inward looking and isolationist. Japan does not fall into that category. So, the youth, becoming more "me" focused and domestic looking, whle in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, for the country overall, Japan is screwed, baring a radical increase in technology that can not be replicated (unlikely), a radical increase in knowledge workers (which requires a global mindset, which this survey shows as lacking), or political changes that make it a corporate safe haven (no way that's happening), so it looks bad. Japan may simply be leading the way for first world countries to have their peak golden years, then settle into a comfortable moribund of suck, assuming what we are seeing is not the first world equivilent of the end of roman empire.

ServerSky - Server Sky
Taking a page from space activists, there is a proposal to place large scale datacenters in orbit as a distributed network of satellites, similar to a beefed up Iridium/Globalstar/IMARsat network where large numbers of servers live in the satellite as a server cluster which is itself part of a cluster node network in orbit, possibly with laser crosslinks. Latency issues will probably force the datacenter satellites into LEO/MEO rather than HEO/GEO. There is a roundabout possibility of using space solar power satellites in GEO (or push comes to shove ground stations) to fire laser/microwaves at the datacenter satellites to provide external power. Considering the overall movement towards wireless networks and ubiquitous computing, in may be in the world's best interest to migrate towards this kind of architecture.

FOXNews.com - U.N. 'Climate Change' Plan Would Likely Shift Trillions to Form New World Economy - United Nations
Anybody seen much about this? Copenhagen Accord, the follow-on to the Kyoto Treaty, seems to be reviving up for some big requirements. Forcing the world to go green by sanctions and fines? We'll see. This swings both to the "UN is a bunch of blowhards and nothing will happen" end, and to the "OMG, new world order UN global government, shoot the blue helmets" end.
