Split radio/baseband concept, though I wonder if this can work up to datacenter baseband style network systems?

ホームアンテナFT | SoftBank
I think this is the other freebie Softbank femtocell service, but it isn't obvious to me if this can use your own home brandband service (ie any ISP provider and any line, ADSL or fiber), or if it still requires a softbank exclusive ADSL line...

電波改善宣言 | SoftBank
Free signup/delivery for Softbank 3G GSM femotcell basestations (with included wifi router and Softbank wifi service it seems). Though they will have to install Softbank specific ADSL (if you aren't already a Softbank ADSL broadband subscriber). But the ADSL install and Softbank broadband link to the femtocell router is free (you still have to pay for normal wired PC broadband access)

asahi.com(朝日新聞社):ソフトバンク、ケータイ基地局を倍増 10年度 - ビジネス・経済
Softbank commits to using the basestation facilities of Willcom to expand it's GSM network. Willcom PHS antennas are practical everywhere in urban japan (PHS usually had some range/shadow issues so Willcom had a huge number of basestations, as well as pico/femto cells inside buildings, both as independent equipment put in with the permission of building owners, and as part of shared internal PBX infrastructure with contracted businesses). Having the basestations solves a lot of problems for Softbank, as relicensing an existing station is not that expensive, and the station already exists with necessary backhaul infrastructure and power. There is the capital outlay of installing all that GSM equipment, and considering the current technology generation, Softbank is probably considering 4G/LTE or 4G/LTE upgrade ready equipment.

Asiajin » KDDI To Increase Tribrid Powered Cellphone Base Stations To Reduce CO2 Emissions
Interesting mixed use methodology, where a cellphone basestation is grid backed, but is operated primarily as a power price curve following battery backed power supply with solar assist, the aim being to reduce grid load during peak hours and to reduce the overall grid power consumption costs by going after the cheap power at night, followed by renewable energy assist during the day via solar. Reminds me of that new basestation design (By Ericsson?) those is a modular concrete tube tower with the built-in vertical axis wind turbine. The tube tower is probably a better choice in urban environments due to smaller land footprint ( I don't think you could get a good solar array size on the top cap of the tube), but the tribrid with solar isn't a bad idea in more rural settings, though at that point you might as well throw in a VAWT.
