Still kinda expensive to do a whole ship hull, but this basically uses a supersonic flamethrower to treat a metal surface with a carbide layer for biofouling protection, cuts fouling by 50% or more.

Interesting antifouling setup using variable low power current electrolysis of seawater via conductive hull paint to create changing local pH values, which annoys biofouling marine organisms enough to keep them from attaching themselves. Really useful for fiberglass yachts potentially, which frequently feature solar panels, though how that will change the corrosion aspects of other metal parts like propellers will be an issue.

Interesting use of plasma treatment to make a microscopic polymer brush/fiber layer to sweep the desalination membrane surface as a physical approach to membrane maintenance (as opposed to typical chemical cleaning or flushing by reverse flow). Since this is an atmospheric pressure plasma treatment, I wonder if this could be applied as a form of antifouling treatment for fixed marine/ocean structures, such as barges, piers, oil rigs, and other structures where drag isn't much of an issue...
