Uses a low power FM radio as a long-ish range outdoor mesh network repeater/range extender thingy to connect smartphones in the wilderness. Only does voice and text messaging though, but considering the underlying bandwidth that's pretty good.

Wow, using photonic muscles embedded in a deployable thin film mirror, using a raster scanning laser to tweak the mirror as an active optical correction primary aperture mirror by using the muscles to deform the mirror. But, the concept suspiciously looks similar to a stealth radar deflection cone for spysats patented by Teledyne Ryan and allegedly used on Misty 1/2 and NROL-15.

New trick of adding vortex twist rather than traditional polarization to a signal to boost encoding for a single frequency. The requirement for what appears to be a directional helicoidal parabolic antenna ( does this mean the antenna needs to be a few wavelengths in depth?) means no love for mobile omnidirectional antennas though.

Spray On Kit
Apparently this is the real deal, a nanoparticle/nanocapacitor suspension paint. A spray on paint kit to create either a conformal antenna or to enhance an existing antenna. They painted a tree and were able to send VHF signals 14 miles. Boosting existing antennas is anywhere from 10% to 40% (40% was 20dBm for an iPhone 3 test). The videos also talk about potential uses in other EMF applications, such as (?AC) electric motor windings.
