Black Sun Planetary Solutions
Interesting collector design, based on on a blackbody cavity concept. Reduces costs since it doesn't use a vacuum tube receiver core, along with a low precision tolerant mirror reflector geometry. Seems to still require single axis tracking though, but 10 degrees is a lot easier to implement via ratchet mechanisms rather than continuous jackscrews.

Claiming a low cost double reflector mirror arrangement lets these guys do high concentration levels. Doesn't really solve the tracking problem, at first glance, but the same plastic shape trick could be used with a trough collector. Interesting that they use a clear plastic cover lens, but what about age or dust related degradation?

Oddball mix of inflatable mirror/lens assembly mounted on a lightweight fiber reinforced concrete frame. Essentially makes a closed, slightly pressurized container for the energy production components, to protect them from rain and air contamination. Though the ETFE film getting discolored due to age/exposure reducing power output might be a problem. The collector is universal, in the sense that the central core receiver can be either the CSP type using pressurized air for the heat transfer fluid (which nominally gets dumped through a gravel tank for heat storage), or a water cooled CPV receiver. Recently did work with IBM using IBM chip semiconductor manufacturing techniques to make CPV water cooled solar cell panels with integrated cooling in the silicon.via microchannels.

This is so crazy it MIGHT work. But due to the physics properties of the lightpipe (particularly the number of allowable bounces), you are pretty much committed to the 163m diameter lightpipe for the 20Km altitude. So that means your initial prototype likely has to be at least 1GW. There's also the catenary bend issues of the lightpipe tether to deal with due to winds aloft. One could make the argument that if you are committing to such a huge vertical pipe, you could just as easily commit to a solar updraft tower using a buoyant chimney.

Interesting take on on concentrating solar PV. Covers chip cooling and transmission lines in one stroke by using hydroelectric dam reservoirs. It may be possible to line some of the open space in the frame to work as a partial water barrier, to reduce evaporative losses for dams in hot/dry climates.

I think they are basically trying to sell a thin film prismatic lens array with spectrum waveguiding as an aftermarket upgrade to existing solar PV systems. Wait, now they are doing photoelectrochemical hydrogen production with the intent of synthetic natural gas production? Seems they are close to the magical 1.23V open circuit voltage needed for direct solar hydrogen production.

Enel Inaugerates Molten Salt Thermal Energy Storage System for Archimede Solar Thermal Power Plant « Solar Thermal Magazine
Apparently this is a parabolic trough type solar thermal plant with molten salt in the collector tubes, which is a first apparently. I wonder how they keep the salt from freezing in the tubes at night? Do they drain it, or accept the losses associated with keeping it molten directly in the tube at night? They mention a combined cycle plant, so maybe they vampire heat from the plant to keep the salt hot?

Boeing Licenses XR700 Solar Power Technology To Stirling Energy Systems
I guess the plan is to use SES stirling engines to do cooling/energy recovery on the backside of the XR700 panels, as a mixed hybrid two stage direct electric and heat engine electric system? The XR700 doesn't seem to use a reflector concentrator like SES systems do, so the stirling engine has to be back mounted...

Seems these guys are proposing a supergrid style tie-in of a DESERTEC setup in the Australian outback to markets in SE Asia, India, and China, piggybacking on natural gas pipeline infrastructure and possibly augmented by offshore wind (likely at convenient transformer substation rigs and LNG/methane recompressors). (Interesting that they don't make the jump between Japan and China, I wonder why...)

Concentrating solar power plant heating a a compressed air working fluid to drive a turbine. Basically, a natural gas powerplant that during the daytime bypasses the methane combustor and sends the compressor output to the solar thermal heat exchanger to heat the air, before passing it back to the regular gas turbine power block. Doesn't solve the solar energy storage problem, but it increases the overall fuel efficiency of the natural gas plant. Go double by using a gasifier on various biofuels to fuel the turbine.
