How The Democratic Party BETRAYED Workers & Its Base - THOMAS FRANK Interview Part 1 - YouTube
Dems doubled down on betrayal of labour - https://youtu.be/0TnS_P4JGDc // chimes w Mark Blyth and Matt Taibbi assessment. - propaganda game for HRC! - professional class could not accept Bernie. DNC adopted professional class, abandoned working class (left behind, picked up by Trump at the ballot box after Sanders was gone). [...] Dems wiped out! Now counting on Trump to screw it up. That is their strategy! [...] also the draining the swamp, no accountability in the big league game - see nassim talebs skin in the game. see bank bailouts nobody went to jail. sank economy, sank the world, the working poor and middle class have to pay for it. and 1-10% ask for tax cut and get it (trickle-down) ... Austerity. There is no deterrent from white and blue collar crime - financial crime, fraud, like accounting. GFC after-math is precedent, not deterrent from greed. //

The "War on Terror" in Yemen and Beyond: Legal and Ethical Implications - YouTube
USA is at war in Yemen. Is a humanitarian catastrophe. Yet another civil war in Middle East. As in Syria/Irak. And Afghanistan. Under radar screen of international community. United Nations. [bc Saudis own middle east hegemony aspirations! ... oil dollars!/petro dollars are their insurance!] [ France UK USA sell arms to SA ] Drone strikes (civilian casualties and mistaken targets) create anti-american sentiment. Saudi Arabia opposed Iran agreement deeply! Is this all "obscure." Or is it all absurd (as is life, see psychology on existentialism). Creating oh, dear (oh dearism (see Adam Curtis, throwing hands over head giving up to understand followed by covering ones eyes, ears, mouth). Bc it is easier in a selfish world where collectivism and activism has been buried under trillons of selfies and handbags for one season. A new syllabus | The Economist
Mrs May’s plan to increase academic selection would probably boost the number of high achievers. But it would not be “regardless of their background”: most would be from well-off families and if many schools opted for entrance exams, poor children would be harmed. A less flashy policy brought in by her predecessor, David Cameron, might raise standards more widely. Schools will no longer be rated according to the share of pupils achieving five C grades in exams taken at age 16 (which encouraged them to focus on the middle of the ability range) but on the share who do as well as expected given their ability on entry. That will promote high achievement—in every school.

he “no longer believe[s] that capitalism and democracy are compatible.” (Thiel has since said that he was wrong to think America was a democracy, calling it instead a “state dominated by very unelected, technocratic agencies”).
The Republican presidential frontrunner and Islamic State both know how to exploit the fear and uncertainty so prevalent today and skillfully cultivate it [...] All these factors jolt people out of their comfort zones and foster existential anxieties that spawn yearnings for order and predictability. Yemen conflict: Governor of Aden killed in Islamic State attack - BBC News
Islamic State militants say they are responsible for a blast that killed the governor of Yemen's port city of Aden. Jaafar Mohammed Saad and several aides died when their convoy was hit. IS says it detonated a car laden with explosives as he drove by. The group has established a presence in Yemen since its civil war broke out. It is opposed to the government and Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who have seized much of the country, including the capital Sanaa. Earlier this year, Aden was recaptured by government troops backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

A Second Snowden Has Leaked a Mother Lode of Drone Docs | WIRED
On Thursday the Intercept published a groundbreaking new collection of documents related to America’s use of unmanned aerial vehicles to kill foreign targets in countries ranging from Afghanistan to Yemen. The revelations about the CIA and Joint Special Operations Command actions include primary source evidence that as many as 90 percent of US drone killings in one five month period weren’t the intended target, that a former British citizen was killed in a drone strike despite repeated opportunities to capture him instead, and details of the grisly process by which the American government chooses who will die, down to the “baseball cards” of profile information created for individual targets, and the chain of authorization that goes up directly to the president.1

Why Russia has started bombing Syria now - and what it hopes to achieve | World | News | The Independent
[ via truthdig ] Russia has also decided to move now following the failure of Mr Putin to reach any agreement with the US at the UN General Assembly meeting in New York where the threat of Isis has been high on the agenda. … [Russia’s] priority is to defeat Isis and then save the Assad regime in Damascus. Despite all the controversy over whether Assad should stay or go, the war would carry on in either case. This is very much a civil war with committed supporters on either side. In the short term Russia wants to stop Isis, and if possible defeat it – though this not likely to happen.

VIDEO: ‘Days of Revolt’ With Chris Hedges: ISIS, the New Israel - Truthdig
https://youtu.be/Go5vYcrwlOM // Hedges begins by pointing out how the Sykes-Picot agreement of 1916, responsible for “carving up the Middle East and turning countries into protectorates,” has been changed only twice—once with the Israeli independence and now with Islamic State. As Hedges put it, the tactics used to redraw the map in the Middle East are both effective and familiar, including the “use of foreign money, use of foreign fighters, tactics of ethnic cleansing and terrorism and this mythical vision—in the case of Israel, the recreation of Judea and Sumeria from the Bible, and in the case of ISIS, the recreation of the seventh-century caliphate.” Alnasseri agrees, opening his response with the observation that “to understand the pheonomenon of ISIS, we need to contextualize it within the setbacks and counter-revolution against the Arab revolutions.“ [...] 'Iraq can not be re-united.'

Syria crisis: Russia begins air strikes against Assad foes - BBC News
Russia has begun carrying out air strikes in Syria against opponents of President Bashar al-Assad, Moscow has confirmed. The strikes reportedly came in the rebel-controlled area of Hama province. Washington was informed in advance that they were about to take place. Syria's civil war has raged for four years, with armed groups - some of them Islamist, including the Islamic State (IS) group - fighting to overthrow the government. The US and its allies have insisted that President Assad should leave office, while Russia has backed its ally remaining in power. The latest developments came amid reports that President Assad had formally requested Russian military support. //&! Queen Elizabeth II: The last of Britishness? - Newsnight - YouTube
Queen Elizabeth II has now overtaken her great-great-grandmother Victoria as the longest reigning monarch in our history, with 63 years and 216 days on the throne. Vince Cable: ‘Historically, the coalition will be seen as a success’ – interview | Politics | The Guardian
[A] look at the post-crash global economy, is the first fruit of that freedom. After toeing the line for five years, he can go public with his criticisms of chancellor George Osborne’s handling of the economy. He warns that the emphasis on consumption rather than investment, the continuing reliance on house price inflation as the driver of growth, the decline in productivity and innovation mean fundamental problems are not being addressed. He is also the first minister to lift the lid on the coalition: we learn the Tories could be likable colleagues but “collectively appalling, with ugly tribal prejudices”; that Osborne and David Cameron were unable “to move Theresa May an inch”; that Osborne’s Treasury effectively controlled government, with a hands-off Cameron; and that, in Cable’s view, Nick Clegg and Danny Alexander were too accepting of the Treasury line. [...] [ Cameron the PR man, being in office for the sake of just being in Office ] &! bit.ly/1KROBLk

Darwinism At Your Doorstep: Why You Only Care About Amazon Now | TechCrunch
“You either fit here or you don’t,” and that in Seattle the company has a widespread reputation for its toughness. For now, you have a choice whether to work for Amazon. For now, you have options. Amazon is the vanguard of a very scary movement in the tech sector but we’re not all there yet (though some techbros on Twitter seem happy at the thought of Amazon culture catching on). [...] Why do we care suddenly about working conditions when it turns out that white-collar employees are the ones getting shafted? The workers at Amazon fulfillment centers have much less choice and much less power than the marketers and engineers in the Times piece. [...] We’re acting shocked and horrified that Amazon applies what it calls “purposeful Darwinism” to people with MBAs and PhDs, // [ trend, conditions known in service sector job and manual labour sector swapping over into the cushy world of blue-/white-collar worker ] Capitalism regresses toward feudalism.

Which Ellsberg leaked (Whistleblower) - bit.ly/1Lgsq2D // Back in the days, national interests and force was expressed in war and seldomly in economic embargos (Napoleon tried that against British Empire) and there were economic skirmishes (oil/diesel, rubber) in the run-up to WW2 and the first couple of months before USA officially entered WW2. TODAY! National interests are only expressed in economic terms with trade embargoes, tariffs, trade deals and protectionism. Resistance is not enough – we need a whole new political vision | Zoe Williams | Comment is free | The Guardian
[ trying to pit the weak and squeezed against the weaker, on the the dole, and bread line and disadvantaged (born into extreme poverty) ] // The budget took us further down a vindictive, regressive path. But we don’t have to toe the government’s line – we need to decide how we want society to look // [ Book owen Jones - The Establishment ] // [ cutting away left and right, even those things which help long-term creating opportunity - eduction policy, vocational education, (Student Maintenance Grant) social services, mental health and well being ... ] [...] To attack first entails retaking the language, so that we aren’t constantly battling on the territory of “common sense” that has already been demarcated and controlled by someone else. Professor Danny Dorling, at the British Library’s weekend conference on London, had this suggestion, in the wake of Osborne’s appropriation of the phrase “living wage”. US torture doctors could face charges after report alleges post-9/11 'collusion' | Law | The Guardian
The largest association of psychologists in the United States is on the brink of a crisis, the Guardian has learned, after an independent review revealed that medical professionals lied and covered up their extensive involvement in post-9/11 torture. The revelation, puncturing years of denials, creates the potential for leadership firings, loss of licenses and even prosecutions. For more than a decade, the American Psychological Association (APA) has maintained that a strict code of ethics prohibits its more than 130,000 members to aid in the torture of detainees while simultaneously permitting involvement in military and intelligence interrogations.

BBC Radio 4 - Today, 29/06/2015, Cameron: Combat 'appalling radical narrative' of IS
bit.ly/1nh23fy compared to 7/7 in media & by everyday people. // The UK needs to tackle the “appalling radical narrative taking over minds of so many young people in our own country", [...] The UK was "united in shock and grief", he said, after 30 Britons were among 38 people killed by a gunman linked to Islamic State extremists in the Tunisian resort of Sousse on Friday. "existential threat", "There are some people who don't buy the terrorism but buy the extremist narrative." He called for a “full-spectrum” response to the Tunisia attack; crushing the "appalling death cult" of IS in Iraq & Syria but also fighting extremists’ “poisonous narrative” elsewhere in the world. // 'We beat it with full spectrum response' means also expanding the surveillance state, drone warfare & corporate state. Obama & Cameron not willing to intervene with sizeable military intervention (boots on the ground) bc of history/experience of Iraq War. will try to fight ISIS by backing local forces et al
