MH17 Ukraine disaster: Dutch Safety Board blames missile - BBC News
Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 crashed as a result of a Russian-made Buk missile, the Dutch Safety Board says. [...] The report does not say who fired the missile, but says airspace over eastern Ukraine should have been closed. [...] A separate Dutch-led criminal investigation is under way. [...] Mr Joustra also said there had been sufficient reason to close off Ukrainian airspace but Ukraine did not do that - and on the day of the crash, 160 flights flew over the area in question. [...] The board does not have the authority to apportion blame, under the rules governing international crash investigations. But speaking to reporters after the news conference, Mr Joustra said pro-Russian rebels were in charge of the area from where the missile that hit MH17 had been fired. ...

Russians despair at food destruction as Moscow says it is having desired effect | World news | The Guardian
Russia’s move to ostentatiously destroy banned food imports at the border has sparked debate in a country where millions live below the poverty line [...] Moscow’s reciprocal measures against countries that sanctioned Russia over its actions in Ukraine have been in place for a year, but the new law stipulating the destruction of contraband shipments at the border came into force on Thursday. Importing fruit, vegetables, meat and cheeses from the EU and other countries that instituted sanctions against Russia is banned. Moscow says importers have tried to get round the ban by putting fake labels on produce, claiming it is made in Brazil, Belarus or another sanction-free country. [...] The aim is to hurt western agricultural producers, and in some countries it has indeed had a major economic effect. Nevertheless, food prices have gone up in Russia as a result, and the latest move to destroy imports has created outcry, even among many who are loyal to the government.

BBC News - Ukraine: UK and EU 'badly misread' Russia
The House of Lords EU committee claimed Europe "sleepwalked" into the crisis. The EU had not realised the depth of Russian hostility to its plans for closer relations with Ukraine, it said. It comes as French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke about the crisis at a joint news conference in Paris. Ill-equipped The committee's report said Britain had not been "active or visible enough" in dealing with the situation in Ukraine. It blamed Foreign Office cuts, which it said led to fewer Russian experts working there, and less emphasis on analysis. A similar decline in EU foreign ministries had left them ill-equipped to formulate an "authoritative response" to the crisis, it said. The report claimed that for too long the EU's relationship with Moscow had been based on the "optimistic premise" that Russia was on a trajectory to becoming a democratic country.

Both of these have weakened the Russian economy. &! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30491170 "Here are the numbers that explain why the Russian economy is imploding in the face of a tumbling oil price and Western sanctions."

May be for western people it's hard to believe how can it be possible to support this crazy regime. I can tell you that even top managers from leading russian internet company (from my private conversation with them) dreamed about great russian firewall because in that case, they won't have competitors like Google. Furthermore even IT guys like Putin regime and don't get worry about crazy laws passed against the internet. I assure you in that because many of my colleagues really like Stalin and really like what's happening in Ukraine. Almost all people in Russia really hate western world. They don't care about currency exchange rates and inflation, they care only about imperialism. When Putin made desision about Crimea, and when people totally supported it, I stopped believe in Russia at all. Russia is a pure soviet country, with pure 100% soviet mindset, vast majority of russian people like idea of self-isolation. This is why Russia has no future as a liberal market-driven country.

War in Ukraine a Result of Misunderstandings between Europe and Russia - SPIEGEL ONLINE
One year ago, negotations over a Ukraine association agreement with the European Union collapsed. The result has been a standoff with Russia and war in the Donbass. It was an historical failure, and one that German Chancellor Angela Merkel contributed to. [...] But the impact of that fateful evening in Vilnius goes far beyond Ukraine's borders. Some 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and almost 70 years after the end of World War II, Europe is once again divided. The estrangement between the Russians and the Europeans is growing with Moscow and the West more inimical toward each other today than during the final phase of the Cold War. It's a reality that many in Europe have long sought to ignore. The story of the run-up to Vilnius is one filled with errors in judgment, misunderstandings, failures and blind spots. It is a chronicle of foreign policy failure foretold -- on all sides. &! &! ! youtu.be/akz3h1HAUj8 - Putin will sein Gesicht nicht verlieren.

Was will Putin?

8 Reasons Why A New Global Financial Crisis Could Be On The Way - NASDAQ.com
Like any other bubble, it will only become one once it bursts. What is different in 2014 is that now central banks have a great tool to prevent real estate bubbles: Basel III and its countercyclical capital buffer. [...] Let us not forget the lessons of the Great War (we are now commemorating the 100-year anniversary): the butterfly effect can be deadly in politics. +++ http://ti.me/1r4NfEy "Raghuram Rajan, the governor of India's central bank, fears supereasy money from the world’s central banks is inflating assets and encouraging bad investments. [...] Long-term low interest rates and unorthodox programs to stimulate economies — like quantitative easing, or QE — could be laying the groundwork for more turmoil in financial markets, he argues. [...] With inflation not being strong, this can continue for some time until things are so stretched that any signs of inflation, and a rise in interest rates, could precipitate a fairly strong market reaction. Certainly [...] volatility hurts[.]

What Putin Has to Say to Americans About Syria - NYTimes.com
Vladimir Putin wrote an op-ed on Syria in the New York Times today. He takes a few jabs at the United States but generally pleas for upholding the UN’s veto on acts of war. It is alarming that military intervention in internal conflicts in foreign countries has become commonplace for the United States. Is it in America’s long-term interest? I doubt it. Millions around the world increasingly see America not as a model of democracy but as relying solely on brute force, cobbling coalitions together under the slogan “you’re either with us or against us.”

Russia and the IOC agree: Athletes and spectators shouldn’t be openly gay at the Olympics.
Russian Interior Ministry confirmed: Openly gay people attending the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, including athletes, will be arrested under the country’s draconian new anti-gay law. The International Olympic Committee’s response to gay people? We mean it: Stay in the closet. + http://www.dailystarsunday.co.uk/news/latest-news/331763/David-Cameron-snubs-Stephen-Fry-s-anti-gay-Olympic-plea >> IOC is writing on thing in its charter. And doing the opposite. Value comes from action, not from words & charters. I.O.C. is the latest example. Same with FIFA and the World Cup in Qatar. Sport is a image of Society. How this plays out is a not just a step backwards it's a display of 'looking away' because it doesn't affect me. The word coward doesn't even encompass what is happening. Germany talks Zivilcourage. It's hypocrisy on all sides of the table. Politicians have no guts to take a stand. To boycott what is wrong. To make a dent in the universe.
