The trap of materialism - YouTube
Consumerism! The more we consume, the better our lifes will be. ... Keeping up with the jonses. [...] the true cost of an item is not the price. as long as carbon, pollution is not priced in. thus the carbon tax and pollution tax (ecological and environmental). [...] WALL E is true. leaving a planet full of junk. and pollution, inhospitable environment. [...] post-capitalism = post-consumerism in age of abundance and marginal cost (energy, water, food). [...] a man's life does not lie in the abundance of his possessions. and be fearful of greed << Bible [...] consumerism does not equal to tue individuality or individualism of a human being among many. its a choice you can pick from and define yourself in public with it ie which color your iPhone has or what case for it [ min 8 Adam Smith; let flourish self-interested selfish economic interest through consumption = growth ] [...] shopping as experience. shopping as a way of life. self-medication. coping mechanism in the rat race.

Hawking: Humans at risk of lethal 'own goal' - BBC News
Humanity is at risk from a series of dangers of our own making, according to Prof Stephen Hawking. Nuclear war, global warming and genetically-engineered viruses are among the scenarios which he singles out. And he says that further progress in science and technology will create "new ways things can go wrong". Prof Hawking is giving this year's BBC Reith Lectures, which explore research into black holes, and his warning came in answer to audience questions. He says that assuming humanity eventually establishes colonies on other worlds, it will be able to survive. "Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or ten thousand years. [...] But he also said that future generations of researchers should be aware of how scientific and technological progress is changing the world, and to help the wider public understand it. //&! bit.ly/1RwS7yA

Cornel West and Richard Wolff talk about Capitalism and White Supremacy - YouTube
individualism tends to capitalism (each their own coloured widget) vs individuality of the individual. don't mistake the one for the other and you can't achieve the same happiness and well-being with just individualism because it is also based on constant consumption. // what people leave out of socialism and the pundits decry over it. is democracy. democratic socialism. // Plutocracy is undercutting its ability to survive! Problem, the system will take us down with it. // We got ecological catastrophe on our doorstep. Nuclear catastrophe. And Capitalisms catastrophe. //&! Ceased all power and rendered the citizen powerless. This is no capitalistic democracy. This is crony capitalism. - Chris Hedges June 8, 2015 - youtu.be/iA41ggsdeXE - capitalism has no internal constraints. remove external constraints & it will see & use everything (private free market enterprise) as replaceable & commodity w a price (even the planet): the environment, workers health. &! non-violent revolution!
