Suspended BBC journalist breaks silence over Tyson Fury comments · PinkNews
[ Platforming, see paris lees on Germaine Greer and platforming for wrong people ... ] The Newsline journalist was since suspended, and had previously said he was not allowed to comment on the controversy. But in a new YouTube video, West did comment, saying: “I’m not really meant to say anything, but I wanted to just say that I chose between being an objective journalist and being a human being with thoughts and opinions with principles.” He went on: “I shouldn’t have given my opinion on something that was current” but said that at the same time he “couldn’t forget the little boy I was when I was nine or 10 at school and I was being bullied for being camp and being gay”. The video now appears to have been deleted from West’s YouTube page.

Rezension ǀ Was wäre ein selbstbestimmtes Leben?
President Obama Is Waging a War on Hackers | WIRED
war on whistleblower and investigative journalism. // "In next week’s State of the Union address, President Obama will propose new laws against hacking that could make either retweeting or clicking on the above (fictional) link illegal. A court managed what the complicit UK press couldn't: force GCHQ to tell the truth | Trevor Timm | Comment is free | The Guardian
A UK court vindicated Edward Snowden’s whistleblowing on Friday by ruling that the secrecy surrounding one of the programs he exposed was, in fact, illegal. The decision is more evidence that not only were the Snowden revelations necessary and justified, but are also slowly forcing changes in both US and UK, even as both governments fiercely resist. In a stunning ruling, the Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT) – which oversees (and usually rubber stamps) Britain’s spy agencies – declared that the intelligence-sharing rules between the NSA and GCHQ (Britain’s NSA equivalent and partner-in-crime) governing their mass surveillance program violated UK human rights laws because they were kept secret for so long. [...] Snowden once rightly called the UK media’s coverage of the GCHQ story “a disservice to the public.”

The Foundation’s report, released today, outlines some of the collateral damage of NSA surveillance in several areas, including: Economic losses to US businesses due to lost sales and declining customer trust. The deterioration of internet security as a result of the NSA stockpiling zero-day vulnerabilities, undermining encryption and installing backdoors in software and hardware products. Human Rights Watch: NSA-Überwachung schadet Journalismus - SPIEGEL ONLINE
