Hollywood Moves Away From Middlebrow Movies -
As a result, studios are finally and fully conceding that moviegoers, armed with Facebook and other networking tools and concerned about escalating ticket prices, are holding them to higher standards. The product has to be good.

The f8 Preview: How Facebook Plans to Take Over the Web
So why is Facebook doing all this? For the money. By optimizing the social graph and using distributed tools, Facebook is hoping to increase user engagement. More time spent interacting with its site and the sites it effectively powers will translate into more money-making opportunities.

Facebook’s combination of audacity and ability is admirable and at the same time, a little scary. To those who view it as the 21st century version of the online ghetto called AOL, you’re underestimating this gang. If Mark Zuckerberg and his troops execute on their plan, the web is going to be a lot different. I believe that Facebook will rival Google’s current domination of the search and online advertising business. These guys are ruthless, unrelenting and singleminded in their quest for success.

Overture Founder Launches Tweetup, “Adsense For Twitter”
Partly agree, I can see why Twitter Inc. wants to own parts of the whole ecosystem. But they gave ’search’ already away to Google, Bing (Yahoo), albeit having its own search. So I assume that they are doing what they are best at, and give away the rest.

On the other hand – I can’t believe that smbdy would launch a Twitter search (vertial) under the domain! Nothing for C2B (me as consumer) that is not a name to remember and associate for search. I know Tweetups as Twitter Meetups in the early age (adopters).

On the B2B side, a name does not matter, as long as you have good technology, reputation, results.

So they are likely to make +50% on these B2B deals in and around the Twitter ecosystem, and are not really about ‘being Google for Twitter’.

What is most striking to me is, the landing page and ONE sentence

“Join our open beta and build your following!” Where build your following is underlined. I see where they are going.

Social Networks Play a Major Part in How We Get News [STATS]
However, the study also shows that very few people nowadays (7%) are getting information from a single media platform. In fact, nearly half of Americans (46%) claim they get news from four to six media platforms on a typical day. And while TV is still the biggest source of news (78% of Americans say they get news from a local TV station), Internet sits at second place (61% of users get news online), ahead of radio and newspapers. Interestingly enough, relatively few people — only 17% — claim they read news in a national newspaper such as The New York Times or USA Today.

Thirty-three percent of cellphone owners now access news on their phones, and 28% use personalized news, meaning they have a customized page that includes news from sources they’ve chosen. Perhaps most importantly, news consumers today participate in the creation of news; 37% have contributed to news creation, commented on news or shared it via social media sites such as Facebook (Facebook) or Twitter (Twitter).

BBC News - Children who use technology are 'better writers'
Children who blog, text or use social networking websites have better writing skills than those who do not, according to the National Literacy Trust.

A survey of 3,001 children aged nine to 16 found that 24% had their own blog and 82% sent text messages at least once a month.

In addition 73% used instant messaging services to chat online with friends.

However, 77% still put real pen to paper to write notes in class or do their school homework.

Of the children who neither blogged nor used social network sites, 47% rated their writing as "good" or "very good", while 61% of the bloggers and 56% of the social networkers said the same.

"Our research suggests a strong correlation between kids using technology and wider patterns of reading and writing," Jonathan Douglas, director of the National Literacy Trust, told BBC News.
