Paris climate summit: UN negotiations 'need redesign' - BBC News
[ only bottom up works ... till the tide is big enough. same with health and fitness (which in part has to be about looking good/fit). self-esteem. ] The UN climate negotiations are heading for failure and need a major redesign if they are to succeed, scientists say. The pledges that individual countries are offering ahead of the Paris climate summit in December are too entrenched in self interest instead of being focussed on a common goal. The researchers say the science of cooperation is being ignored. Instead, they say the negotiations should focus on a common commitment on the global price of carbon. This means countries would agree on a uniform charge for carbon pollution, a scheme that would encourage polluters to reduce their emissions. The comments from researchers at the University of Cambridge, UK, University of Maryland, US, and University of Cologne, in Germany, are published in the journal Nature. //&! bbc.in/1jYOUtz

The Complete Skinny on Obesity - YouTube
chronic disease are 75% of health care expenditure in western world & developing world! developing countries have bigger problem w obesity & metabolic syndrome than infections like cholera/tb // min13 (Structure of Sugar) fructose is equal 2 alcohol. glucose is metabolized by every organ in the body. even if you don't consume glucose, your body will make it. fructose can only metabolized by the liver. you are overloading your liver (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). fructose is a liver toxin (liver fat). fructose and alcohol is metabolized into fat! alcohol and fructose can be both nutrients, but they can also be addictive // min 20 Leptin resistance. Insulin turns sugars into fat. western diet (dietary composition, omnivore, fast & processed food) encourage body 2 up the production of insulin (sugar 2 fat) till the ceiling is reached (Pancreatitis -> diabetes). increased insulin response (from diet composition) blocks leptin-to-brain signal (feeling of full) &is addictive over time

Students 'cannot multi-task with mobiles and study' - BBC News
Researchers found that students sending and receiving messages while studying scored lower test results and were less effective at tasks such as note taking. The study examined how a generation of "voracious texters" might be affected by so many online distractions. It found that when students did not use mobiles, they were better at being able to recall information. [...] The study, Mobile Phones in the Classroom: Examining the Effects of Texting, Twitter, and Message Content on Student Learning, carried out a series of tests with 145 undergraduates. [...] "It is a common occurrence to observe students who are physically present, yet mentally preoccupied by non-course-related material on their mobile devices. "As mobile devices have deeply saturated the college student population, this problem will likely continue to pose a significant obstacle," says the study, by Jeffrey Kuznekoff, Stevie Munz and Scott Titsworth. // life hack = focus 100% without distractions, opp for procrasti

Getting Some 'Me' Time: Why Millennials Are So Individualistic : NPR
The 2014 Clark Established Adult Poll found that the top three markers for adulthood were accepting responsibility for self, financial independence and making independent decisions. Twenge first encountered this rise in individualism when she was doing a project on gender roles in the 1990s. Both women and men scored high on this masculine scale that includes highly individualistic traits, such as being independent, relying on yourself, being a leader, etc. Twenge began studying other traits such as self-esteem and extroversion and recognized a pattern that these traits were all increasing over time. "You have emerging adulthood — taking more time to find yourself in your 20s," Twenge says. "By definition that is an individualistic pursuit. 'I want to have that time to myself before I settle down.' That is one that is unknown in traditional collectivist societies." [... thus, give people time, no turbo abi ...]

I only hope Michael Schumacher pulls through so that he can see all the nice things people are saying about him - Telegraph
For years Michael was the perfect pantomime villain, particularly in this country; German, of course, ruthlessly efficient, ultra-aggressive. Whereas previous greats such as Sir Jackie Stewart or Juan Manuel Fangio left the door open to their rivals when racing, for fear of making what could easily have been fatal contact, Michael went all out in his pursuit of victory. Sometimes he overstepped the mark – Jerez in 1997 and Rascasse in 2006 spring to mind – and those indiscretions made him unpalatable to the sporting purist. He was marked down by some, including me, as a tainted champion. But you cannot argue with his achievements. [...] [Sebastian Vettel is the same type of athlete. going always for the gap.] [...] He had complete and utter self-belief. It was what made him a champion. [without arrogance] [confidence and trust in ones abilities]

Hating On Fat People Just Makes Them Fatter : Shots - Health News : NPR
Overweight people who said they'd experienced discrimination based on weight were more than twice as likely to be obese four years later than people who didn't mention such discrimination. And those who started out obese were three times more likely to remain so if they'd been harshly targeted because of their weight. Other types of discrimination showed no effect on weight. [...] But other research suggests that increased rates of depression, emotional eating and low-self esteem likely play a role. So does increased stress (and the associated hormonal surges that can trigger even more hunger and eating), as well as the avoidance of exercise. "If someone's mean to you at the gym because of your weight or acts like you don't belong there," Sutin says, "you're less likely to go back."

[...] Parental Overprotection = negative. Lack of Values = Negative. Keeping a Journal/Diary = Positive. Is equivalent to therapy.

RSA Animate - Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us - YouTube
This lively RSA Animate, adapted from Dan Pink's talk at the RSA, illustrates the hidden truths behind what really motivates us at home and in the workplace.

- reward schemes for cognitive tasks do not work.
- mechanical task, reward schemes for performance do work

Thus,
>> pay people enough, to take the issue of money off the table and people think about the work.
Then 3 Factors determine performance and satisfaction:
- autonomy (self-direction), mastery (of skill), purpose (contribution to something that matters and or is greater than you).
