Boy, 7, died at Portland hospital after monitoring equipment switched off | UK news | The Guardian
James’s family are now launching legal action against HCA Healthcare UK, which runs the Portland hospital. [... it is well known within the NHS (consultants, senior nurses), when Private hospitals fuck up big time, NHS has to pick up the pieces. and this was an outsourced routine op (bc of bed & capacity shortage) to a private hospital!) & CQC does not check Private Hospitals!

NHS intensive care 'at its limits' because of staff shortages | Society | The Guardian
Units are so overwhelmed that life-saving operations are having to be delayed, warn senior doctors [...] “It is important that bed occupancy rates do not exceed 85% in order to ensure there is capacity for emergencies. The reality is that many units are quickly reaching 100% capacity whenever there is excessive hospital activity,” he added.

The Guardian can reveal that, in a stark example of the growing problems, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS trust last week ran out of intensive care beds at its two hospitals and was struggling to provide normal care to the many patients needing treatment for life-or-death conditions.

Private providers in the NHS - the debate reignites - BBC News
[ sending people private to cut waiting lists and time to meet targets. no targets mean no one has to be send to private hospitals for treatment means less expense at the current account year. & Not to call out the truth, diet-related causes, is Political. ] ... the use of private health provision had increased to 7.6% in 2015/16. This compares with a figure of 4.9% in 2010/11, the first year of the coalition government. This is the basis of Labour's claim of a big increase in privatisation under the Conservatives. Government sources, though, say there was a significant rise in under Labour when private hospitals were first used to help cut waiting lists. Back in 2006/07, the use of private health provision was just 2.8%.

Pando: The most patient man in Silicon Valley
Too much in Silicon Valley revolves around hyperspeed. Everything in the startup world is an emergency that needs to be solved in an all-nighter last night, if you allow it to be. The genius in Ravikant’s AngelList is its measured, methodical, brick-by-brick pace to build a software platform to replace, save, wreck, or augment – the verb depends on your point of view – a business that everyone insisted for decades was incurably human, boutique and done with deeply-trusted partnerships and eye-to-eye handshake deals. //&! bit.ly/1LS4aVg - The “The old Series A investor who put in $2 million and really cared and had resources is dead.” [...] “A seed fund doesn’t have the resources that a Kleiner Perkins or a Benchmark had,” [ Incubators are only 3 months long ] AngelList syndicate leads help, but they don’t care enough to help [as classic VC's] [...] Entrepreneurs have to stitch it together themselves.”

// https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=0uvLVc-IHa-A7QbMxrf4DA#q=site:firstlook.org+%2B+no+fly+list // &! BBC News - Clare's Law pilot introduced in Aberdeen and Ayrshire
"The Disclosure Scheme for Domestic Abuse Scotland is being piloted in Ayrshire and Aberdeen and will run for six months. [...] Supt Neil Kerr, of Police Scotland, said: "Tackling domestic abuse is a key priority for the police and this scheme will allow us to share information about an abuser's past with a potential victim. "Applying through this scheme will ultimately assist those who are worried about their partner's behaviour to make a more informed decision about whether to remain in the relationship." The scheme has been developed with the Scottish government, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, Scottish Women's Aid and Assist advocacy services. [...] Requests for disclosures can be raised by victims themselves, family members or another member of the public concerned about the victim. The police and social workers are also able to raise concerns if they feel someone is at risk." --- like a sex offenders list/ sex offenders registry - public protection scheme,

Blacklisted: The Secret Government Rulebook For Labeling You a TerroristThe Intercept
"The heart of the document revolves around the rules for placing individuals on a watchlist. “All executive departments and agencies,” the document says, are responsible for collecting and sharing information on terrorist suspects with the National Counterterrorism Center. It sets a low standard—”reasonable suspicion“—for placing names on the watchlists, and offers a multitude of vague, confusing, or contradictory instructions for gauging it." [...] The immediate family of suspected terrorists [...] ”associates” who have a defined relationship with a suspected terrorist, but whose involvement in terrorist activity is not known. A third loophole is broader still—individuals with “a possible nexus” to terrorism, but for whom there is not enough “derogatory information” to meet the reasonable suspicion[.]" |PS: The Intercept/First Look.org = Greenwald & Omydiar, former sold it all to the latter. // Patriot Act II - http://bit.ly/1zVO3wf // http://bit.ly/1y4kc1R source not from Snowden!

Venture Hacks - Startup List
Yesterday, we launched AngelList, a curated list of angel investors, representing $80M going into early-stage startups this year.

Today, we’re launching a cool new way to get intros to these angels: StartupList. It’s a weekly email we send to AngelList, with 3 high-quality startups who want intros. Here’s how it works: you send us your pitch, we review it and, every Monday, we email the best 3 startups of the week to AngelList

The List of N Things
I bet you the current issue of Cosmopolitan has an article whose title begins with a number. "7 Things He Won't Tell You about Sex," or something like that. Some popular magazines feature articles of this type on the cover of every issue. That can't be happening by accident. Editors must know they attract readers.

Why do readers like the list of n things so much? Mainly because it's easier to read than a regular article. [1] Structurally, the list of n things is a degenerate case of essay. An essay can go anywhere the writer wants. In a list of n things the writer agrees to constrain himself to a collection of points of roughly equal importance, and he tells the reader explicitly what they are.
