More than politics, Theresa May’s true strength is her grasp of British culture | Rafael Behr | Opinion | The Guardian
While John Major and Tony Blair struggle with their Brexit defeat, the prime minister has read the national mood and is successfully navigating it // SHE IS NAVIGATING IT? OTHERS WOULD SAY like Blair SHE SITS THERE AS PASSENGER. // Culture and identity tend to be treated as peripheral expressions of whatever is happening in the economy, which is sometimes true but not always. May understands that. She is a more astute culture warrior than economist, and for now that is serving her well. // HAPPY TO DO HARD BREXIT EVEN IF IT HURTS THE ECONOMY "make the best of it" // To win power from New Labour, Cameron adapted to Blairish mode: self-consciously modern, socially liberal, metropolitan and relaxed about Europe. [...] There was always something absurd about “anti-establishment” language in the plummy tones of Boris Johnson or Nigel Farage. But their campaign did capture a rebellious spirit. Partly it was generalised frustration at the state of everything; partly it was counter-revolution – the backlash by people who sensed that their lives, interests and anxieties were the punchline to a joke at a fancy London dinner party. [...] liberals haven’t grasped the scale of their defeat. That is good for May, who navigates through the middle.

Making Britain Great Again by Niall Ferguson - YouTube
Brexit is a misnomer. it is not about British, Brexit is about the English! And Scotland failed to amend the outcome. What matters is age in turnout. The problem of granny voting out. GENERATIONAL CONFLICT in 21st century. And general inequality. Sovereignty was smth for alt-right people (authoritarian liking correlation). [...] and most importantly, IT IS NOT THE ECONOMY ANY MORE, STUPID (identity over pay day). At least for half of it. See also Donald Trump. LIES IN POLITICS HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE POWERFULL THAN 2016 - Brexit and Trump. DailyMail about EEA's. Immigrants take no jobs from "English." Immigration has contributed to growth (GDP). + WILL BE LONGEST DIVORCE. = HIT TO ECON WILL BE AS HARSH AS PREDICTED! HARD BREXIT MIGHT EVEN BE UNDERESTIMATED. [...] Populism (multiculturalism, social liberalism, immigration, environmentalism, feminism, globalisation, capitalism/corporatism) vs Cosmopolitism & Econ Left vs Econ Right [...] Brexit campaign was succesulf as in that leave voters dont think didnt think economically, it would make much of a difference. The more you were for Brexit, the less economics mattered. THIS DIVORCE WIL COST WAY MORE THAN ANYONE COULD HAVE THOUGHT ... and longer. Not 2 years. [...] When populist leaders seek to exploit (populism) policy for their own end (&personal career/gain), the sceptical voter should be ver ver very suspicious.

BBC News - Uber banned in Germany by Frankfurt court
+!! bit.ly/1qxEsrt

Shift In Gay Marriage Support Mirrors A Changing America : NPR
The latest polls indicate 58 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage. In 1977, that number was 13 percent. One researcher says that jump in support isn't the result of a generational gap — it's that many who once opposed gay marriage have changed their minds or softened their opposition. - gay rights movement championed the individual rights. - many high profile people coming out of closet may have contributed to the "normal" image of gay people and gay relationships. plus high profile hetero people have gay friends and turn into a public ally.

Rise of post gay-rights movement because of the lack of T&Q and other in real-world LGBT environement. Because gender-nonconforming (Non-Cis) people feel lost in a publicly L&G-only accepting world. YOU DON'T NEED TO UNDERSTAND to ACCEPT, as long as we do not hurt you. Welcome to LGBTQ+ ... !

If the gay-rights movement today seems to revolve around same-sex marriage, this generation is seeking something more radical: an upending of gender roles beyond the binary of male/female. The core question isn’t whom they love, but who they are — that is, identity as distinct from sexual orientation.

But what to call this movement? Whereas “gay and lesbian” was once used to lump together various sexual minorities — and more recently “L.G.B.T.” to include bisexual and transgender — the new vanguard wants a broader, more inclusive abbreviation. “Youth today do not define themselves on the spectrum of L.G.B.T.,”

Van Jones: Protecting Society from Corporate 'Tyranny' - YouTube
Van Jones, Founding President of Rebuild the Dream, criticizes the influence corporations and special interests have on our political system. Jones argues that "the Tea Party is correct, our liberties are under threat," but their "negative" rhetoric is misguided.

***

In 2010, the United States Supreme Court held in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that laws prohibiting corporate and union political expenditures were unconstitutional. Citizens United made it legal for corporations and unions to spend from their general treasuries to finance independent expenditures, but did not alter the prohibition on direct corporate or union contributions to federal campaigns; those are still prohibited.
