Saudi Arabia has 'clear link' to UK extremism, report says - BBC News
The Henry Jackson Society said there was a "clear and growing link" between Islamist organisations in receipt of overseas funds, hate preachers and Jihadist groups promoting violence.
The foreign affairs think tank called for a public inquiry into the role of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.
The UK's Saudi Arabian embassy says the claims are "categorically false".
Ministers are under pressure to publish a report on UK-based Islamist groups.
The Home Office report into the existence and influence of Jihadist organisations, commissioned by former Prime Minister David Cameron in 2015, has reportedly yet to be completed amid questions as to whether it will ever be published. &! http://henryjacksonsociety.org/2017/03/05/islamist-terrorism-analysis-of-offences-and-attacks-in-the-uk-1998-2015/

BBC One - Panorama, Tough Justice in Britain - Texas Style
As the UK's imprisonment rate remains the highest in western Europe, Panorama joins Michael Gove - the man in charge of British prisons - on a fact-finding mission in Texas. 'Hang 'em high' Texas is not the first place you might look for lessons in criminal justice - they execute more people and lock up more offenders than anywhere else in America. But now this conservative state is the unlikely centre of a rehabilitation-led revolution in prison reform that's sweeping through the US. Crime is down, prisoner numbers have fallen and, on top of this, they have cut costs. Are there valuable lessons to be learned here, and are UK politicians really ready to dole out some Texan justice?

So titelt beispielhaft der Telegraph in Anlehnung an eine Aussage der britischen Innenministerin Theresa May: Thousands of lives at risk after High Court rules snooping powers unlawful. // theguardian.com/world/surveillance - bit.ly/1fa4mQP // &! bit.ly/1CMnrUg &! bit.ly/1DoKqiZ - Why appeasing governments over encryption will never work. David Cameron & the director of the FBI have both asked for ‘backdoors’ to be included in encryption software [...] Keys Under Doormats: Mandating insecurity by requiring government access to all data and communications, is worth reading in full. It concludes that proposals for backdoors are “unworkable in practice, raise enormous legal and ethical questions, and would undo progress on security at a time when internet vulnerabilities are causing extreme economic harm”.

BBC Radio 4 - Today, 29/06/2015, Cameron: Combat 'appalling radical narrative' of IS
bit.ly/1nh23fy compared to 7/7 in media & by everyday people. // The UK needs to tackle the “appalling radical narrative taking over minds of so many young people in our own country", [...] The UK was "united in shock and grief", he said, after 30 Britons were among 38 people killed by a gunman linked to Islamic State extremists in the Tunisian resort of Sousse on Friday. "existential threat", "There are some people who don't buy the terrorism but buy the extremist narrative." He called for a “full-spectrum” response to the Tunisia attack; crushing the "appalling death cult" of IS in Iraq & Syria but also fighting extremists’ “poisonous narrative” elsewhere in the world. // 'We beat it with full spectrum response' means also expanding the surveillance state, drone warfare & corporate state. Obama & Cameron not willing to intervene with sizeable military intervention (boots on the ground) bc of history/experience of Iraq War. will try to fight ISIS by backing local forces et al

As Tim Cook criticizes Indiana, Apple imposes labor discrimination in its own backyard | PandoDaily
Using background checks on construction workers to discriminate against those charged with or convicted of felonies is reportedly very rare in the construction industry, one of the industries that provide opportunities for ex-convicts to get back on their feet in life. Discrimination against ex-offenders is a major ongoing problem that exacerbates poverty, inequality and racism; in an incarceration-mad state like California, Apple’s policy imposed on construction companies it hires means worsening inequality and cycles of poverty for a problem that disproportionately affects people of color. In 2012, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced a new crackdown on illegal employment discrimination against people with criminal records, which are only permitted depending on the nature of the job. Book Excerpt: Understanding the New Jim Crow | BillMoyers.com
The following is an excerpt from Michelle Alexander’s book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. - "Today it is perfectly legal to discriminate against criminals in nearly all the ways that it was once legal to discriminate against African-Americans. Once you’re labeled a felon, the old forms of discrimination— employment discrimination, housing discrimination, denial of the right to vote, denial of educational opportunity, denial of food stamps and other public benefits and exclusion from jury service — are suddenly legal. ...We have not ended racial caste in America; we have merely redesigned it." - Michelle Alexander

America Must End Its Paranoid War on Hackers | WIRED
"Our privileged attorney-client communications were routinely and illegally opened by the prison; when weev was interrogated by the FBI (while being denied an attorney) about one of his communications to me and complained about his privileged attorney-client mail being opened, one of the FBI agents told him that they “didn’t give a fuck about the attorney client privilege.” Unfortunately, this attitude is typical of many FBI agents; generally they believe they are above the law they are entrusted to enforce. [...] I’ve heard similar tales of nasty, brutish, and petty treatment when dealing with the U.S. penal system from other hackers I know who were thrown in jail for non-violent offenses. [...] Hackers are the new communists for the DOJ.
