Charlie Sheen discloses HIV positive diagnosis: 'It's a hard three letters to absorb' | Culture | The Guardian
Today Show host Matt Lauer asked Sheen why he continued to bring people including prostitutes to his home even though they were threatening him. Sheen said it was because he was depressed. He said that the period in March 2011 when he appeared on television and online making absurd claims and going on long tirades was not tied to his HIV status. “I wish I could blame it on that – that was more roid rage,” he said. [...] CBS fired Sheen from the long-running sitcom Two and a Half Men in March 2011 after the Golden Globe-winning actor had a public meltdown and criticised the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre. Filming had been disrupted in the previous year as Sheen, who was the highest-paid actor on television at the time, received treatment for drug addiction. //&! As medical advances help thousands of people, it would be disastrous to revert to bigoted attitudes in public and the media - bit.ly/1Y5qk8S - If a celebrity – or anybody else – has HIV, it really is none of our business.

Every Day I Want To Quit Social Media
[ no more time to reflect and think for yourself ... we are all and feel Alon Together. ] I am drowning in a sea of anxiety created by Twitter and Facebook. [...] We all want to be recognized as clever or witty. [ your best side, public ] [...] I ended up on social media for a reason, and though the reason escapes me during moments of sheer panic and anxiety, I take part, no matter what — the pursuit of relevancy, or, in the strictest sense of the term, validation, is an imperative that exists as a key part of humankind’s quest for meaning. Self-definition has become intertwined with social media. We are all here for each other. I wake up staring at my phone. I fall asleep to the glow of the very same screen.

Intel buckles to anti-feminist campaign by pulling ads from gaming site | The Verge
Intel has pulled an [ad] campaign from [...] Gamasutra after it reportedly received a number of complaints from self-identified gamers upset that the site was championing fair gender representation in video games. The decision by the world's largest chipmaker to remove its [ad] from the site comes as a result of a coordinated campaign called Operation Disrespectful Nod, apparently orchestrated by supporters of the #GamerGate hashtag, who rail against so-called "social justice warrior" writers, journalists, & developers. [...] Her piece argued that the games industry has now ballooned so large that it had outgrown its niche origins, making the concept of the "gamer" a thing of the past. Alexander admitted that change would be difficult for those who still self-identified as a gamer, whose "identity depends on the ageing cultural signposts of a rapidly-evolving, increasingly broad and complex medium," but her message was triumphant. "We're creating culture now. ..." + bit.ly/1CJzGws

Isabell Suba: Männer zeigen Filme, Filmbranche, Sexismus, Quote - SPIEGEL ONLINE
- http://www.spiegel.de/video/neu-im-kino-maenner-zeigen-filme-frauen-ihre-brueste-video-1512781.html

How Guardians Of The Galaxy Triumphed Over The Film Industry's Backwards Thinking - CinemaBlend.com
This is a kind of sexism that is often overlooked as harmless stereotyping. But that locked-in concept of gender expectation was a roadblock for Perlman again and again, until Marvel trusted in her passion and talent, so overlooked any preconceived notions based on her sex. To Marvel Entertainment's credit, their filmmakers overcame institutional sexism biases to trust in the writer over her gender identity. And because they did, we--all of us--get a movie that by nearly all accounts is astounding and a hell of a good time.

The Tulisa Sting Wasn't Just Classist, It Was Informed by a Racism That Associated Her With Criminality | NOISEY
Yesterday Tulisa walked free from a drug trial that had the potential to destroy her career. It was collapsed by a judge who deemed that the reporter who led the sting had lied at a pre-trial hearing. There was always something trap like about it - a cynical show orchestrated to drag a successful woman through the dirt.
