Chancellor urged not to cut vital health fund - BBC News
George "Mr Judgement Call" Osborne // Vital health services in England including stop smoking, obesity and sexual health clinics are at risk, experts are warning. Earlier this year the Chancellor unveiled plans to cut the £2.8bn public health budget by £200m from January. The pot is held by councils so is not covered by the government's promise to protect the health service. But doctors, nurses and other senior health officials say the money is vital to relieving pressure on the wider NHS. A total of 11 groups, including the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Royal College of Nursing, NHS Confederation and Faculty of Public Health, have put their names to a letter to George Osborne asking him to reconsider the plans. The letter warned raiding the funds would simply cause greater ill-health and inequality in the population. [...] [PREVENTION>>] [deal with Osborne for 8bn extra a year this Parliament] included making gains from improvements in people's health. [Cut now, pay more later!]

NHS could be 'overwhelmed' by people with long-term medical conditions | Society | The Guardian
The soaring number of people with long-term medical conditions [chronic] is threatening to "overwhelm" the NHS [...] The challenges posed by patients with chronic medical conditions are so great that they represent the "healthcare equivalent to climate change" and must force the NHS to undertake a major rethink of how it cares for such patients, Dr Martin McShane says in an interview with the Guardian. [...] 70% of the NHS's £110bn budget – £77bn – as well as £10.9bn of the £15.5bn spent on social care in England, [...] NHS will not bridge the £30bn gap that it fears will have emerged by 2020 between its budget and the volume of care needed [...] a healthy patient costs the NHS about £288 a year, those with one long-term condition cost an estimated £783, those with two cost £1,521 // [More doesnt stop sink overflowing! stop the faucet of new chronically sick people. NHS on brink of collapse, warns former health minister | Society | The Guardian
Norman Lamb [...] NHS will crash within two years with catastrophic consequences unless the government orders an immediate multibillion pound cash injection, the former minister in charge of care services says. [...] fears mount among senior NHS officials, care providers and local authorities that NHS and care services are approaching breaking point. An open letter from a doctor to Jeremy Hunt
The patients are more numerous and sicker than ever before; partly due to the ageing population, but also because the patients getting admitted to hospital have been disproportionately disadvantaged by the decimation of health and social care provision both in hospitals and nationwide in the community. The estimated funding gap for adult social care this decade? £4.3 billion.Charity funding cut by £1.3 billion; personal care cut; mental health services cut ; disability benefits cut; carers in crisis; benefit caps inexorably tightening; all welfare increasingly inaccessible to the most vulnerable members of society: the unwell, the poor, the young, the disabled.
