'Mad Friday': Christmas revellers given alcohol warning - BBC News
The last weekend before the Christmas holiday could see alcohol-fuelled emergencies increase by up to 50%, officials believe. Alcohol sales across December could reach £2.3bn, health campaigners say. Public Health England has urged people to join its "Dry January" campaign to give up alcohol in the new year. According to figures from Public Health England and Alcohol Concern, alcohol sales in pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK increased by 142% on the final Friday before Christmas last year. [...] "A period of abstinence could help encourage less harmful, better drinking habits in the long-term - even six months later, evidence from Dry January shows that more than two-thirds of participants are still drinking less. "As the festive season continues, we're urging people to take a break and get their 2016 off to a positive start by signing up for Dry January."

[...] Ungleichheit zwischen den sozialen Gruppen verstärkt.

Every Day I Want To Quit Social Media
[ no more time to reflect and think for yourself ... we are all and feel Alon Together. ] I am drowning in a sea of anxiety created by Twitter and Facebook. [...] We all want to be recognized as clever or witty. [ your best side, public ] [...] I ended up on social media for a reason, and though the reason escapes me during moments of sheer panic and anxiety, I take part, no matter what — the pursuit of relevancy, or, in the strictest sense of the term, validation, is an imperative that exists as a key part of humankind’s quest for meaning. Self-definition has become intertwined with social media. We are all here for each other. I wake up staring at my phone. I fall asleep to the glow of the very same screen.

One-fifth of youngsters suffer from 'high anxiety' - BBC News
The study looked at the wellbeing and mental health of 7.5 million young people in the UK aged 16 to 24. [...] The figures also show a rising proportion of young people who felt dissatisfied with their health. [...] The figures from the ONS show a picture of a growing number of young people who are satisfied with their lives - but with a persistent minority reporting unhappiness or suffering from anxiety. [...] Campus anxiety [...] But in terms of anxiety, 18% report high levels of anxiety and almost 16% have "medium" levels of anxiety. In a separate measure, there are almost 21% of young people with "evidence indicating depression or anxiety". And young people's perceptions of their own physical health seemed to be progressively more negative, with more expressing dissatisfaction and fewer feeling satisfied. [F]igures for the wellbeing of younger children which showed about one in eight youngsters between the ages of 10 and 15 reported symptoms of mental ill-health.

Digitaler Burnout: "Zu viel Smartphone macht unglücklich" - SPIEGEL ONLINE
[ portion USE time! 3x1hr?

Autism in the workplace: 'Always thought you were a bit weird' | Social Care Network | The Guardian
According to the National Autistic Society just 15% of people on the spectrum are in full time work, and this figure may not take account of those like me who manage to stay in work but never stay anywhere long, driven away by social overkill. And yet it is being recognised that autism can bring some very useful skills to the work table – focus, attention to detail and commitment being just a few. A small number of companies have recognised this and are actively seeking these skills, especially in technological fields. In return, they are prepared to accommodate the social and sensory difficulties of autism – but many employers have yet to catch on that a few reasonable adjustments can make a huge difference to whether a potentially excellent worker stays or goes. [...] I appreciate that people will at least try to give me warning of changes ahead of time ...

Students 'cannot multi-task with mobiles and study' - BBC News
Researchers found that students sending and receiving messages while studying scored lower test results and were less effective at tasks such as note taking. The study examined how a generation of "voracious texters" might be affected by so many online distractions. It found that when students did not use mobiles, they were better at being able to recall information. [...] The study, Mobile Phones in the Classroom: Examining the Effects of Texting, Twitter, and Message Content on Student Learning, carried out a series of tests with 145 undergraduates. [...] "It is a common occurrence to observe students who are physically present, yet mentally preoccupied by non-course-related material on their mobile devices. "As mobile devices have deeply saturated the college student population, this problem will likely continue to pose a significant obstacle," says the study, by Jeffrey Kuznekoff, Stevie Munz and Scott Titsworth. // life hack = focus 100% without distractions, opp for procrasti

Author And YouTuber John Green Tells Advertisers To Stop Worrying About Eyeballs | TechCrunch
John Green talked about how he and his brother Hank built a devoted following of “nerdfighters” on YouTube, contributing to the enormous success of his book. In fact, they’ve built an online video business with 30 employees. But Green’s ad revenue is outweighed by things like crowdfunding and merchandise — and that ad revenue is falling by 5 percent every year. He acknowledged that’s not true for everyone on YouTube. Nonetheless, he argued, “Many of the strongest communities are dramatically undervalued by advertisers, forcing YouTubers to find other paths.” [...] And sure, distraction is fine, but Green doesn’t see himself and other “passionate YouTubers” as being in “the distraction business.” Instead, the best shows are in “the community business,” and he watches them because they help him “grapple with and consider the problems and questions way down deep there in the darkness. [...] focusing on eyeballs is a crummy way to measure the success and value [...] eyeball biz shrinking!

Facebook News Feed Reprioritizes Your Real Friends Above Pages | TechCrunch
combat falling usage & engagement!? VS bit.ly/1by0vvx pay-to-play // FB turned from keeping up with the lifes of their friends (young demographic), into clickbait distraction & time wasting machine. Other platforms emerged 2 hang digitally with ur friends that are way more simplified (tuned down 2 1 usage; Appification) with much less bells & whistles & complexity/depth & distraction vs hooked). Thus the defensive acquisition of WhatsApp, Instagram & fork-out of Messenger. They saw Snapchat as a vector of attack bc of the appeal of ephemeral in todays 'always on record' products. Where VR is bet that is maybe even 10 years out 2 come finally 2 full fruition; mass market adoption (like the phone). Crossing the chasm. // Not even 10 years old & other people attack FBs weaknesses &are winning. But what FB got going for it, another 10 years is, the usr base as advertising victims (targeting&re-targeting) enabled by masscollection via Facebook-button. &log-in used in Apps.

Facebook Finds Strength As A Family, Not An App | TechCrunch
The subtext of Zuck’s “family” quote is that one app can’t do everything. On mobile, people want lean, purpose-driven experiences. Cramming everything into a one-size-fits-all can make it slow and bloated. But when you’re talking about trying to connect every human on earth, a singularly focused app alone can’t possibly meet the diverse needs of a diverse population. Zuckerberg explained “We’re building this family so we can offer unique, world-class experiences for every way that people want to share.” --- // add as user behaviour slash trait "convenience." // ie Instagram releasing separate app for photo collages. // Facebook Messenger as Platform - have ppl not learned to build their business on other ppls lawn? Ok for established businesses and own domain and standalone product and to be on Messenger only to reduce friction, ... still double edged sword.

[...] Advocatus Diaboli [...] Betriebsblindheit

great people that believe in the vision, less talk about vision - most of ur work week execute to let vision come to fruition. week by week, deal by deal, customer by customer, line of coder after line of code. [...] carmageddon; was luck. if you don't have it, you have to make it, engineer it. ie growth hacking; social sharing of relevant, valuable, contextual content ie via blog or other communication ways ('you are a content company, then/plus X - gary vaynerchuck'). exceptional cases - vial content, thought leaders, advocates - make your users advocates*, high profile people who are passionate about a topic might adopt and put always a good word in for your product ie guy kawasaki for canvas. *letting them take part of the journey in various ways - #engagement, #gamification. Min23 in; local quality curated ads as value added feature for user in line w value proposition. Learning to say no to everything that is not CORE to the VISION, the PRODUCT. + A brand as defensible advantage.

DLD NYC 14 - Winners/Losers in a Digital Age (Scott Galloway) - YouTube
Apple knows that competition is catching up faster and faster in terms of design and functionality etc etc. They hired 2 fashion people already (burberry and from LVHM). And to differentiate the brand further (price/status symbol - above middle class) and to keep selling it's Apple Products ... including wearables (Watch & Headphone) they hired those key people or b(r)ought them into the mothership. They could have long ago bought personal cloud storage companies and other stuff to add to its portfolio bla bla bla.... but that 'Software', you can't display - show off - walking around downtown manhatten. Wearables, phones, tablets - you can. ... Apple focuses on their core competencies - software like iTunes is only 2nd class, that is why it still doesn't stream. >> “They want Jimmy and they want Dre,” said the source. “He’s got fashion and culture completely locked up.” ( http://techcrunch.com/2014/05/22/apples-beats-deal-is-happening-and-its-a-dre-acquihire/ ) + !!! v=NP0P2BT0vTc !!!
