How the Brexit vote unleashed a mutiny against the old order | Politics | The Guardian
But the revolution that had delivered Brexit, driven in large part by white working-class votes, was sweeping all before it in the most unpredictable way – careers and ambitions, along with what had seemed the safest of assumptions. The aftershocks of the referendum were wreaking havoc with the old system. //&! How bad can Brexit be if it has made bankers think about inequality? [...] Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) immediately called Brexit the “biggest electoral riposte yet to [the] age of inequality”. Investment group Pimco, which manages $1.5 trillion of bonds, warned clients about the “battle against inequality”. Meanwhile French giant Axa (with €666bn under its belt) concluded: “UK voters have taken their frustrations about income inequality out on the EU.” - http://bit.ly/29gYh3T //&! decades long neglect from Westminster, Whitehall, No Representation - bit.ly/29lZVDn & bit.ly/29ey7jL

Day of change turns rules upside down
And almost the entire establishment's appeal to the electorate was rejected. One member of the cabinet pointed to the problem: "they don't believe us".
Right now, it is not at all inevitable that's a problem the current generation of politicians will ever be able to fix.

Felt left behind! proxy protest vote. Dog whistle racism/xenophobia. World of post-fact politics and post-fact campaigning! Still a protest vote vs the elite and establishment always promised Disneyland. Reclaiming democracy at home, from bureaucracy, unelected officials, unaccountable ones, in Brussels.
//&! The Growth Trap
[ growing for growth sake! vs growing in a world/area that is not conducive to grow ] When Twitter went public in 2013, its stock soared and its value jumped to $25 billion. Its founders and early investors got rich. But since then, the company has been considered a failure, despite the fact that it boasts 320 million active users, because it's not growing fast enough. Douglas Rushkoff, author of "Throwing Rocks at the Google Bus: How Growth Became the Enemy of Prosperity," talks to Steve Paikin about why he sees the push for more growth as dangerous. // true capitalists (shareholder, crony, greedy) w/o self-regulation or governance extract all the value there is to extract and then leave, dispersing it to the few who already have [...] WE MUST REWRITE THE RULES OF THE GROWTH GAME ITSELF! [...] you want to optimise the economy based on velocity of money (circulation of money), not share price and value extraction [...]

Piketty: EU should welcome one million immigrants a year
"The European Union has the capacity to absorb a large flow of migrants, one million per year in terms of inflow net of outflow," he said.
"This is exactly what we had between 2000 and 2010 and this was working in the sense that unemployment was being reduced.
"The problem is - with the austerity policies and with the recession - now we are in a situation where it's very difficult in particular with southern Europe, with the terrible economic situation that we have created there in particular." [...] The population of the EU has only risen by 0.2% a year since 1995, he argues, compared to 1.2% for the world's population over the same period.
According to Eurostat, the official statistical arm of the European Commission, a total of 3.4 million people came to the EU during 2013. Some 2.8 million left, leaving a net immigration figure of around 600,000. [S]low growth [...] exacerbated not just by a lack of immigration but also by austerity policies aimed at reducing public expenditure. [EU in recession 2011 forward]

IS in Europe: The race to the death
The BBC's Panorama programme has seen the transcripts of some important interrogations carried out by France's equivalent of MI5, the DGSI. They reveal valuable details about the tactics used by Abaaoud to train and equip IS fighters in Europe. [...] Nicolas Moreau was one them. He was arrested in 2015 having left Nantes to fight jihad in Syria in 2014.
He, like many IS recruits, was a former petty criminal who had converted to Islam in prison and become disillusioned with life in France.
He told his interrogators he couldn't stand the "injustice" and "couldn't see any future in this country".
He went on to provide valuable information about IS's external operations department known as Amni, meaning "security", that sends hand-picked trained fighters back to Europe to inflict death and destruction on their homelands.
"Each gets 50,000 euros (£40,000) to mount an attack," Moreau said.

Help-to-buy loan scheme nets Treasury £213m in paper profit | Money | The Guardian
[ gov is not co-owner of private property! Make away with Nurse Bursaries and other gov support for education. But support the property price! by keeping supply always lower than demand. and use policy to increase demand w subsidies! where to put their savings! & subsidy for builders ] Rising house prices across much of England mean a government scheme to help buyers of newbuild property may have made more than £200m for the Treasury in its first two-and-a-half years. The help-to-buy equity loan scheme gives buyers an interest-free loan for five years in return for a percentage stake in their property. When the home is sold, the buyer returns the same percentage of the sale price, meaning that any fall or rise in house prices affects the return. Analysis by property firm Hometrack and shared with the Guardian suggests that a surge in house prices in some areas means the total value of homes bought through the scheme since its launch in April 2013 has increased by more than £1bn.

Hungarian PM says UK must alter tax credits plan for EU citizens | Politics | The Guardian
In a sign of the strength of feeling in eastern and central Europe over the proposed ban, Viktor Orbán said Hungarians should not be described as migrants anywhere in the EU, and said Cameron’s EU reform proposals must not be discriminatory. Orbán made his remarks at an upbeat press conference with his British counterpart in Budapest, in which he said he agreed with three out of the four reform proposals that Britain has tabled. His only disagreement is over the plan to ban EU workers from claiming in-work benefits for four years.

New year, old grievances: why Britain’s bugbears in 2016 look very familiar | Martin Boon | Opinion | The Guardian
A new survey of what’s on our minds reveals a nation still obsessed with the same things as in the 1960s - inequality and immigration [...] Seven out of 10 suggest that inequality and immigration create the biggest societal divides of today [ but tories take on what is easiest, immigration. but not inequality ] So nothing’s changed, and it’s likely not much will – at least, not if you’re a member of our world-weary public, exasperated with the collective failure of political solutions to modern-day grievances.

annual CBI dinner // 'its about competing with the global economy' which means you have to deregulate, skip consume protection, allow zombie banks to run themselves hot to the tune of billions for a bailout, [also EU watch do has an eye on unfair subsidies] ... a competition for price. there is no winner. its a zero sum game. but not for wall street. Wall Street shareholders are the winners. And everyone else is a looser. No shared economic interest. Brexit is easy way out, the quickest and with short-term view only. The future is about being remarkable. The Purple Cow (Seth Godin). Differentiation in a flat world of borderless competition. UK ended up here because of UKIP. Why UKIP? UKIP is a Protest Party (opportunistic in itself and for those disenfranchised voters). See European Election 2014 results. A symptom of short-term view policy folly by Career Politicians who do not represent the common good nor make policy decisions base on shared economic interest.

Monitor - Nationalistische Kleingeister So viel 19. Jahrhundert...
+ !!! + Jon Snow from Channel4 in Response to apparent NO Vote Campaign Win - "The scale of YES and NO participation in Scotland's referendum sends a powerful message to westminster: Address the UK's democratic deficit." Come my revolution, the apathetic will get their say | Marina Hyde | Comment is free | The Guardian
I can think of no single more achievable boost to our democracy than having a none-of-the-above box added to every 2015 ballot paper, and an amendment to media regulations insisting that the disaffected be formally represented in all TV studios and other forums in the runup to polling day. They may well be the biggest political demographic. At the time of writing, it was unclear how many people voted in the local and European elections, but one thing was crystal: the vast majority didn't. It doesn't look to have been a historically low showing, estimated at about 36%. But with predictions that next year's big one could rival the philosophically illegitimising depth of Labour taking 35% of a 61% turnout in 2005, how long should politicians be ethically permitted to ignore such a vast constituency? + http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-26385554
