This Week in Health: Clearing up misperceptions about Zika virus
april 2016 by asterisk2a
[A] closer look at President Obama's "Cancer Moonshot," - criticism is about focus on treatment (extending life) and nothing at prevention (90% of cases are not genetic, rather environment, exposure, lifestyle, diet). Breast Cancer lots of public activism, not so w bladder cancer. sustainability of investment over 20 years will be important, changing lifestyle habits does not take 20 years.

Organ donation bill 'unhelpful and potentially damaging' - BBC News
january 2016 by asterisk2a
[ other countries who have an opt-out system implemented have seen their transplant rates rise ] A bill currently going through the assembly proposes that everyone will be on the organ donation register unless they opt out. But some of Northern Ireland's most senior clinicians have been warning Stormont's health committee that the bill is unhelpful and potentially damaging. Dr Paul Glover, the regional clinical lead on organ donation, said he believes the bill "in isolation" will fail. "It will have to be underpinned by education," he said. "We have to have society talking about organ donations, talking to family, making their wishes known. "This is about changing society - it's not about saying this is the law, therefore this is what we must do. This is about the positivity of it, coming from society up." //&! bbc.in/1mITlJW &! bbc.in/1UzVe6A

Suspended BBC journalist breaks silence over Tyson Fury comments · PinkNews
december 2015 by asterisk2a
[ Platforming, see paris lees on Germaine Greer and platforming for wrong people ... ] The Newsline journalist was since suspended, and had previously said he was not allowed to comment on the controversy. But in a new YouTube video, West did comment, saying: “I’m not really meant to say anything, but I wanted to just say that I chose between being an objective journalist and being a human being with thoughts and opinions with principles.” He went on: “I shouldn’t have given my opinion on something that was current” but said that at the same time he “couldn’t forget the little boy I was when I was nine or 10 at school and I was being bullied for being camp and being gay”. The video now appears to have been deleted from West’s YouTube page.

[ chem sex as symptom of public sentiment at large towards what "being gay" means. and how gay people see themselves in this picture and see how they are treated at large?! it's like about breaking free from social norms, its a counterproductive form of rebellion against society in its most dangerous form. ] [ protection = naughty but not dangerous ] [ some are thrill seeking people. a kick apart form normal life. ] [ hetero sex now counts for half of all new infections ] [ medical profession guess is that between 1/3 and 1/2 of all infection go undiagnosed, because they don't have HIV test, in UK ] PART 2: [ stigma and prejudice of being HIV positive is a social crisis. medically we moved on, but socially we haven't. there is still this big fear and horror part, instilled into people by it's initial campaign during the 90's. Patients less satisfied by GPs who refuse antibiotics - BBC News
december 2015 by asterisk2a
[ quick fix society. rather pop a pill than not eat bacon for breakfast. show how much GP's have to change set-up and be incentivised 2 help people change. ] The study, published in the British Journal of General Practice, compared the prescribing rates of more than 95% of all GP surgeries in England to a survey of patient satisfaction. Those satisfaction scores are used to determine how much GPs get paid. Patients' satisfaction rose when they were listened to or carefully examined. A study last year warned that up to half of all prescriptions of antibiotics could be inappropriate - given to patients suffering coughs, colds, sore throats and the flu - none of which can be treated with antibiotics. The overuse of antibiotics has led to antibiotic resistance, when bacteria and infections can no longer be killed off or treated with strong drugs. In this study, doctors who prescribed 25% fewer antibiotics saw a modest reduction in patient satisfaction with them or with their surgery.

Rules banning gay and bisexual men from giving blood to be reviewed | Politics | The Guardian
november 2015 by asterisk2a
A spokesperson for the gay rights campaign group Stonewall said: “We want a donation system that is fair and based on up-to-date medical evidence. Currently gay and bi people cannot give blood if they have had sex in the past 12 months, regardless of whether they used protection. Yet straight people who may have had unprotected sex can donate. “These current rules are clearly unfair and we want to see people asked similar questions, irrespective of their sexual orientation, to accurately assess the risk of infection. Screening all donors by sexual behaviour rather than by sexual orientation would increase blood stocks in times of shortage and create a safer supply by giving a more accurate, non-discriminatory assessment.”

[ moderation and balance doesn't work, as does moderate tobacco use doesn't work ] “Americans with the healthiest diets actually eat a relatively small range of healthy foods,” said Dariush Mozaffarian, M.D., Dr.P.H., senior author and dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Boston. “These results suggest that in modern diets, eating ‘everything in moderation’ is actually worse than eating a smaller number of healthy foods.”

Comedian Bob Mortimer has triple heart bypass operation - BBC News
october 2015 by asterisk2a
[ CAN MAKE FUN OF BBC's "What is a triple heart bypass? [...] more common in smokers and obese people" ... he isn't even that fat, he isn't lean either. But as his buddy said at least he got "got fixed". AKA the bandaid. Heart disease is still happening with what he eats ...& he is also a confessed smoker. 1/3rd of all heart disease-related deaths are attributed to smoking. He is 56. A person of his age with a poverty background probably did not really want to go to the hospital for the chest pain because he feared for his job/income to pay the bills & would have dropped eventually dead, literally, at work or on way to work. QUESTION IS, is he so smart & self-aware/introspective to change his ways? AFTER A TRIPLE BYPASS! saw open chest, take veins from thigh, re] Bob Mortimer [undergone] a triple heart bypass operation. [...] needed "several weeks" to recover from the operation. Reeves said: "I'm so pleased the operation has gone well and Bob is fixed. Many thanks to the surgeon."

Chancellor urged not to cut vital health fund - BBC News
october 2015 by asterisk2a
George "Mr Judgement Call" Osborne // Vital health services in England including stop smoking, obesity and sexual health clinics are at risk, experts are warning. Earlier this year the Chancellor unveiled plans to cut the £2.8bn public health budget by £200m from January. The pot is held by councils so is not covered by the government's promise to protect the health service. But doctors, nurses and other senior health officials say the money is vital to relieving pressure on the wider NHS. A total of 11 groups, including the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Royal College of Nursing, NHS Confederation and Faculty of Public Health, have put their names to a letter to George Osborne asking him to reconsider the plans. The letter warned raiding the funds would simply cause greater ill-health and inequality in the population. [...] [PREVENTION>>] [deal with Osborne for 8bn extra a year this Parliament] included making gains from improvements in people's health. [Cut now, pay more later!]

The Review on Antimicrobial Resistance calls for tests to indentify viral and bacterial infections. Only bacterial infections respond to antibiotics. The review team said such tests could end "just in case" prescribing which sees a huge proportion of antibiotics used needlessly.

Vin Diesel: Online abuse is the dark side of fame - BBC Newsbeat
october 2015 by asterisk2a
"You hear people talk about haters all the time, and there are people who process haters differently. "I feel sorry for people who have to cut other people down to feel better about themselves." Discussing articles in magazines about weight, he added: "They do it for profit too and that's the dark side of fame. "You do that enough to people and they become withdrawn... because they don't know who is trying to exploit them or bring them down." //&! bbc.in/1W3CLo6 - vin being the typical American Omnivore and only buffs up (caloric restriction + training + substance abuse (coffee and cigs) + ?steroids?) for roles .... will look like Arnie who had a cosmetic surgery by the way.

Rezension ǀ Was wäre ein selbstbestimmtes Leben? — der Freitag
october 2015 by asterisk2a
[!!!Autonomy im Rahmen der Gesellschaft!!!: Job, pay tax, shop, etc] //&! youtu.be/NKAevgGvqjw << also on delicious. &! youtu.be/csIW4W_DYX4 - Human Virtues!

Massentierhaltung ǀ Alles auf eine Charta — der Freitag
october 2015 by asterisk2a

october 2015 by asterisk2a

Brighton and Hove initiative tackles sugar addiction - BBC News
october 2015 by asterisk2a
The "devastating harm" caused by having too much sugar is the focus of Brighton and Hove's first city-wide campaign as part of a drive to help reduce obesity. More than 300 children were admitted to hospital for teeth extraction in the city in 2012-13, while treating diet-related diseases costs £80m a year. The Sugar Smart City initiative has the backing of TV chef Jamie Oliver. He has asked food outlets in the city to adopt a voluntary 10p sugar levy on soft drinks with added sugar. The food campaigner has recently launched a voluntary levy on sugary drinks in his own restaurants, with the money raised going to Sustain, a charity working in health and food education. The money raised elsewhere in the city from the charge will be paid into the Children's Health Fund. Statistics have shown that one in four children in Brighton and Hove are already overweight or obese by the time they leave primary school. [...] "We don't know where it is [...]"

Britain's water crisis | Nick Davies | Environment | The Guardian
october 2015 by asterisk2a
The immediate cause of the early drying out at the source of the Ouse was simply that there was not enough water in the underground aquifer on which it feeds. But that turns out to be part of something bigger. In March 2013, the local branch of the Environment Agency reported that, depending on conditions, there are now years when they can extract water from the Ouse on no more than 94 days. For the rest of the year, abstractors can use water that has been stored during the wet months in the big reservoir at Ardingly, and they can pump up water through boreholes sunk into the underground aquifers. This in turn reduces the amount of water that bubbles up into the river and its tributaries. The Environment Agency has stopped issuing new abstraction licences for the river. Meanwhile, during the summer months, nearly half of what we like to describe as a river is, in fact, recycled waste water and sewage. [...] [south-east and south] “serious water stress”

WHO | A call for higher taxes on tobacco
october 2015 by asterisk2a
Dr Margaret Chan and Mike Bloomberg call for higher taxes on tobacco. The evidence is clear: raising tobacco taxes cuts usage, encourages smokers to quit and discourages young people from picking up the habit in the first place. The United Nations ought to encourage countries to raise tobacco taxes to support the world’s Sustainable Development Goals and reduce tobacco use.

The health implications of the diesel scandal - BBC News
october 2015 by asterisk2a
[ http://www.spiegel.de/thema/abgasaffaere_bei_volkswagen/ ] The diesel scandal started as a worry for car owners. Yet, according to Prof Alistair Lewis, an air pollution expert at the University of York, "it is overwhelmingly a health story". The costs of not doing more to tackle air pollution can be measured in "thousands of deaths and billions of pounds, all passed on to the taxpayer", he says. "The real costs here are the ones the taxpayer picks up in terms of providing extra healthcare," he explains. "The only reason we measure NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and particulates is because they are harmful to health." //&! youtu.be/HG8Kpfs4ZYs - Krank dank VW?

VIDEO: ‘Days of Revolt’ With Chris Hedges: ISIS, the New Israel - Truthdig
october 2015 by asterisk2a
https://youtu.be/Go5vYcrwlOM // Hedges begins by pointing out how the Sykes-Picot agreement of 1916, responsible for “carving up the Middle East and turning countries into protectorates,” has been changed only twice—once with the Israeli independence and now with Islamic State. As Hedges put it, the tactics used to redraw the map in the Middle East are both effective and familiar, including the “use of foreign money, use of foreign fighters, tactics of ethnic cleansing and terrorism and this mythical vision—in the case of Israel, the recreation of Judea and Sumeria from the Bible, and in the case of ISIS, the recreation of the seventh-century caliphate.” Alnasseri agrees, opening his response with the observation that “to understand the pheonomenon of ISIS, we need to contextualize it within the setbacks and counter-revolution against the Arab revolutions.“ [...] 'Iraq can not be re-united.'

NHS to begin denying people hearing aids for first time | Society | The Guardian
october 2015 by asterisk2a
[ From January 2015 - bit.ly/13RgSyy - NHS accused of ‘cruel’ rationing of hearing aids ] [ NHS services, yet another example, is being rationed. Because budget is blown on chronic diseases caused mainly by diet and sedentary lifestyle. NHS CEO did say prevention is not addressed properly of how big the lever actually is long-term! ] The NHS will start denying people with hearing problems access to hearing aids for the first time from Thursday in a controversial move that critics claim will worsen sufferers’ social isolation. The GP-led NHS clinical commissioning group in North Staffordshire is taking the unprecedented step of ceasing to provide free hearing aids to mainly elderly people in its area with mild hearing loss. It is also making it harder for those with moderate hearing loss to get access to hearing aids by introducing new eligibility criteria against which patients will be judged.

How can plastic bag addiction be cured? - BBC News
october 2015 by asterisk2a
From Monday large shops in England will charge 5p for each plastic bag. But how did shoppers get so used to free carrier bags in the first place, asks Chris Stokel-Walker. //&! bit.ly/1RgOTfj - Perhaps the crisis of conscience has eased and people have got used to the idea of their wastefulness again. The charge is clearly needed. But will it work? And does it go far enough? [ 5p isn't a pain, 50p probably. because then its seen (perceived) as overpriced/rip-off. but the consumer does not see, is not aware of the actual current cost and long-term cost to the environment, ecology, and knock-on economic damage of cleaning it up in 20-30 years because we have to to save the planet! where are the behavioural economic experiments when you need them? ] - make video arguing for a 50p price tag and study from dan ariely to conduct such a study.

"ethical killing." we deny people suicide, assisted dying. but kill and eat other beings not so unsimilar to use. and search for ethical means now, defining what is ethical. double standard. one for animal called human because we are so evolutionary advanced. and another for animals not similar to us. // //After years of bad press, salmon farms are signing up to new certification standards in a bid to prove their environmental and social credentials

BBC Documentary - Sugar v Fat - YouTube - min 38 - engineering addictive food "I have a sweet tooth"
september 2015 by asterisk2a
Fat vs Sugar (vs Salt). Its not one. Its the combination of 3 via processed foods/home made dishes/junk/fast food/ready meals by the food industry towards the bliss point, moorish, addictive. Tricking the brain 2 overeat those engineered foods! SEE BOOK: Salt, Sugar, Fat by Michael Moss! bit.ly/1O1F0Uh - A combination u cant find it in nature. Bliss point ratio! Cheese cake/glaze donut is half fat half sugar. & dont forget the Salt. Processed Food is literally deadly because it IS engineered 2 addiction (Wall Street Food Conglomerate profit maximisation/shareholder value) combination of 50/50 + high in salt = moorish. Tricking our stop buttons (Leptin and Ghrelin, satiety feeling (via condensed volume (no/little added fiber) to calories ratio)) that we have // Thus have to make the effort & planning, making your meals yourself. // Also Dr. Robert Lustig, boo&talks: processed food as culprit. //&! youtu.be/_H5oFX7bHtY + exercise & animal protein culprit too! //&! youtu.be/2uisu5dY3G0

- how can you fix something that people think is normal. that they are normal? you have to enlighten them, not shove it in their face, but they have to do the work themselves. then comes the intrinsic motivation with that and the step by step, incremental change ... that eventually compounds. change is hard. but hard things are worth it. rewarding so much more. its a individual private personal journey. //&! "Composition of their Diet (author of Starch Solution - Whole Plant Based Diet, not processed, not refined.)!" Obesity and illness -- caused by the same thing - John McDougall MD - youtu.be/CLcG39tP6-c &! We Are Processed People. Over fed. Under nourished. - bit.ly/1MQBM5T "We are selling sickness [Wall Steeet/Food conglomerates)" This change won't come top down, has not come, will not come - EVER. This change has to be bottom-up in order to stick! (Made to Stick). A message and pictures repeated by 1000 individual voices. "Things could change if we get the awareness out there."

"obesity is a disease!" //&! Why I'm Against "Fat Acceptance" - youtu.be/I0Mq4Kz3vng ... "Who do I want to be? [...] Since I've been this since childhood, I have not known & do not know any different. [...] shame does not help anybody." //&! Fooled [Mark Twain quote]. Hoodwinked. Exploited. PPL who are not aware of the SYSTEM WHICH IS RIGGED AGAINST THEM, are rightfully angry (anger directed partly towards themselves, blindly, and the status quo ... 'dare you to shame me, look around you ... I am not the only one!') for being fat shamed, to a certain extent. U can put the material in front of them, but they dont change if they dont snap 180 degrees intellectually: Enlightenment. Curtains revealed & they grasp the extent of the RIGGED SYSTEM. Healthier lifestyles 'could cut cancer cases by a third' - BBC News
september 2015 by asterisk2a
For example, among men, 9% of cases of advanced prostate cancer could be prevented every year if men were not overweight or obese. [...] Prof Kevin Fenton, director of health and wellbeing at Public Health England, said the UK was currently behind on cancer survival rates compared with other European countries. He said one major factor was that cancer prevention was not in the public consciousness. "The link between tobacco and cancer is widely known and readily accepted by the public, but many are not yet fully convinced that healthy eating, regular exercise and not drinking alcohol, can lower your cancer risk." // &! forksoverknives.com/longevity-diet/ --- premature ageing and early death and sick end of life, through the adoption of a western diet. //&! bit.ly/1LJxhnU

Is it HEALTHY to have Obese role models? Tess Munster - YouTube
september 2015 by asterisk2a
fat shaming (does not help, ultimately) is not enlightenment (public education and personal self-education, reading up how you harm yourself and people from high up & ur parents have poisoned you since your inception (epigenetics, pollution)), medical intervention, helping someone when you were in their shoes and found help and or helped yourself. Only YOU YOURSELF can be of true interest about YOUR health, because it is your life, your health, your well being, happiness, your disposable income not to spend on medical care. Not food multinational conglomerates owned by a handful shareholders! Theyre not interested in ur health or the nations exploding health care spending. They are interested in maintaining the status quo. Dividends. Profits. Less regulation & oversight. Rising share price. Share buybacks. As child ur indoctrinated, by those people. Because they HOLD the power. There is no broccoli lobby. How abt frame lobby involvement in food pyramid as nanny state by food giants!?

NHS on brink of collapse, warns former health minister | Society | The Guardian
september 2015 by asterisk2a
Norman Lamb [...] NHS will crash within two years with catastrophic consequences unless the government orders an immediate multibillion pound cash injection, the former minister in charge of care services says. [...] fears mount among senior NHS officials, care providers and local authorities that NHS and care services are approaching breaking point. [Lamb] accuses the government of dishonesty in failing to admit the scale of the problems [ sick population, premature ageing, chronic diseases, obesity crisis, Big Sugar, food industry, cancer, sedentary lifestyle, demographic bubble, pollution, chronic stress, mental health ]. [ need non-partisan commision ] [...] NHS CEO [...] [sees no] progress in tackling public health problems [which are multi-dimensional][, shaving the top off/limiting the extent/prevention (Sugar Tax/Alcohol Unit pricing review/review of food deserts & fast-processed-junk-food filled grocery stores) against predictable/status quo = pressures continue 2 increase.]

'Super-gonorrhoea' outbreak in Leeds - BBC News

The epic challenges of the post-antibiotic age will take the debate beyond the well-worn issues of obesity and old age - bit.ly/1NNaH3K - Health and Social Care Act (austerity) put sexual health services into councils hand, out of GP's purview, and thus councils have to decide what to cut ... sexual health services. unable to reach to minorities and marginalised. And its not integrated into NHS services, thus ongoing treatment and side effects and oversight is putting on friction! Jeremy Hunt breezes through MPs' health check | Politics | The Guardian
september 2015 by asterisk2a
Giving evidence before Tuesday’s health select committee, Hunt gave the impression of it only being a matter of time before he learned to walk on water. He breezed in, his trademark grin revealing gleaming white teeth, as if he were hosting a departmental drinks party. Which he almost could have been. The two-hour session that had once looked as if it might get a little sticky as the committee unpicked the details of his NHS reforms, was going to be a walk in the park. Not because Sarah Wollaston or her other committee members were anything other than forensic in their questioning, but because no one in the rest of the country was paying the slightest attention. [...] Hunt began in buoyant form, suggesting that despite an ageing population, a lack of money and rising expectations, the NHS had never been in better health.

UK businesses should highlight upsides of staying in the EU, says pressure group | Business | The Guardian
september 2015 by asterisk2a
Rudd was responding to a report in the Financial Times (paywall) suggesting that David Cameron and his advisers are urging business leaders not to speak out in favour of the country remaining in the EU for fear they will damage the prime minister’s sensitive negotiations. [ // in the office for the sake of being in office ] [...] However, the prime minister’s team is concerned that if business speaks up in favour of remaining in the EU, it could hamper the renegotiation process. Sajid Javid, the business secretary, has already rebuked the CBI for its enthusiastic stance. Mathew Elliott, the head of Business for Britain and the founder and former chief executive of the Taxpayers’ Alliance, is also set to launch a business no campaign within the next few weeks, so yes campaigners are reluctant to give him an open field. Thousands have died soon after being found ‘fit to work’ by the DWP’s benefit tests - UK Politics - UK - The Independent
august 2015 by asterisk2a
The Department for Work and Pensions battled for months not to release the numbers, with its chief minister Iain Duncan Smith at one point telling Parliament they did not exist. [...] "What lies behind these figures is a cruel climate generated by some politicians and sections of the media that seeks to demonise those in need and undermine public confidence in our welfare state," [...] In 2012 a government advisor appointed to review the Government’s Work Capability Assessment said the tests were causing suffering by sending sick people back to work inappropriately. // [ privatisation and profiteering ] // Mr Duncan Smith arguing that the previous cash level created a “perverse incentive”. // &! bit.ly/1Ik0ovC &! bit.ly/1fJlfSe - More than 80 people a month are now dying after being declared ‘fit for work’. The safety net that used to be there for the most vulnerable is being torn to shreds [...] stopped using the term social security and replaced it with “welfare”.

Wandel der Trinkgewohnheiten - The European
august 2015 by asterisk2a

The psychologists walking 100 miles to fight austerity’s impact on mental health | Dawn Foster | Society | The Guardian
august 2015 by asterisk2a
[ Cindarella Service ] Psychologists embark on a mental health march to raise awareness of the devastating effect that cuts are having on their patients [...] Walk the Talk, an awareness-raising trek from the British Psychological Society (BPS) offices in Leicester to its headquarters in the capital, will take in visits to food banks, supported housing, homelessness services and mental health centres, recording testimonies from people whose psychological wellbeing has been jeopardised by the benefits system and Work Programme. [...] spectrum of mental health problems resulting from poverty. [...] Stress, depression and anxiety can be completely debilitating, he says, and when this stress is caused by hardship, trying to combat it through talking therapies feels like ignoring the reality of the situation. The lady's not for turning: cinematic portrayals of lesbians need to get real | Film | The Guardian
july 2015 by asterisk2a
predatory trope ( a significant or recurrent theme) // "The age difference is stark, but beyond this, the narrative of lesbian conversion is there in all its problematic glory, throwing up questions about sexual identity and coercion. Not only by using an uncomfortable stereotype about predatory lesbians, but also by treating sexual identity as if it were a taste in food: here, try the asparagus; if you eat it enough you might like it. [...] Indeed, the conversion trope itself is probably a response to the difficulty in depicting real lesbian relationships – they have to be couched in stereotypical terms for mainstream audiences to connect with. [...] The recurrence of the cliche is one that will hopefully disappear as being public about your queer identity becomes easier, and we begin to recognise that lesbian women can have boring, conventional love stories just like anyone else."

Is this the end for the Freedom of Information Act? - BBC News
july 2015 by asterisk2a
The commission's remit is to look at two substantive issues that officials keep complaining about: "whether the operation of the Act adequately recognises the need for a 'safe space' for policy development and implementation and frank advice", and whether complying with the act is too much of a burden. [...] The safe space? So what about the "safe space" arguments? Under current law, section 35 of the Act allows the withholding of policy development work, private office communications & letters between ministers. If that isn't enough, section 36 allows ministers to withhold other information that would undermine the safe space for discussion. [...] That is, more or less, the information that a good transparency law should publish. It is supposed to help us find cover-ups, incompetence and crookedness by the powerful. [...] there have been no individual releases that have actually caused any problems. [well, if u dont know what 2 ask 4 specifically, u dont ask #insider #whistleblower ]

trans fat = consumable poison (no safe threshold). Sugar not as bad, has safe threshold of around 6-9 teaspoons/day (women-men). body has capability 2 metabolize fructose. insulin resistance associated with weight gain >> energy storage into fat through liver. insulin (spike) is the instigator. // 80% obese population are metabolically ill (various chronic diseases) & 20% of 80%, their body is sucking it up but not till long (mostly younger people). 40% of 70% (people of normal weight amongst the population) are insulin resistant &have other chronic diseases (via metabolic syndrome). it is at a lower prevalence. but still! they ARE thin sick people (metabolic syndrome) "Tofi". their whole numbers are greater than obese sick people. // Exposure 2 western diet! // 21:50 intermittent fasting. when u fast ur liver has 2 live off liver storage. ultimately, better diet is abt 'get the liver fat down' ie by getting rid of the sugar. ketogenic diet // 31:00 Glycemic Load! // 36:00 exercise!

Tax sugary drinks by 20%, say doctors - BBC News
july 2015 by asterisk2a
[health care budget bomb that WILL explode, is already oozing ] An extra 20% tax on sugary drinks should be introduced to tackle the obesity crisis, the British Medical Association says. It estimates poor diets are causing around 70,000 premature deaths each year. In a major report on unhealthy diets, the body called for the extra money raised to be used to subsidise fresh fruit and vegetables. [...] "We're looking at 30% of the UK population being obese by the year 2030, a large extent of that is due to the amount of sugar we're actually consuming without realising. "The biggest problem is a lot of us are unaware of the amount of sugar we are consuming on a day-to-day basis." [...] The government's main approach to obesity has to been to work with the food industry to get it to voluntarily reduce calorie content. [ but a calorie is not a calorie ! stupid ! ] &! bit.ly/1JZFAQS &! bbc.in/1TGifpc - Sugar intake 'should be halved' &! bbc.in/1OlN6Ug - Slim ppl get sick too.

Präventionsgesetz: Mehr Geld für die Gesundheitsvorsorge - SPIEGEL ONLINE
july 2015 by asterisk2a
[...] Auch Selbsthilfegruppen werden durch das Gesetz gestärkt.

W. Keith Campbell: The Narcissism Epidemic - YouTube
july 2015 by asterisk2a
Social Media = an instant in ones life. not ones life. but this disclosure isn't written in there. under pictures, videos, tweets. + Environment of status symbols, status anxiety, debt fueled (zombie) consumerism. Fast Fashion. Throwaway society. At large not being sustainable. Status quo. Living in the now. Binge Drinking. Keeping up with the John's. Millennials - everyone gets a trophy, even for participation. ... this environment creates a need to display being happy and successful and having everything in life. [...] abundance of digital gossip. whether its whatsapp/sms in own circle at large and in the tabloid [...] 'Narcissism predicts leaders, but not whether they are good or bad.' [Could even argue they dont care abt their eulogy, see David Brooks book Character] [ & rising incivility in politics and lack of trust ] // W. Keith Campbell: The Roots of Narcissism - youtu.be/HXbeKKhQXKA - From find meaning in self (actualization) 2 self-expression & display, praise work

The Treasury, the Budget and the NHS - BBC News
july 2015 by asterisk2a
[Cost 4 public health care & services are set-up 2 explode bc of sick population. NHS needs 2be funded by Alcohol, Sugar, Tobacco & animal products tax! (phased in) & Subsidize together with companies an employee wellbing-active lifestyle voucher system that also includes family! As well as subsidize fruit & vegetable prices. & a national years long multi-media campaign & PE@School ] The big decisions on financing the NHS over the next few years are likely to come in the autumn with the departmental spending review. Beyond a restatement of the commitment to an extra £8 billion in 2020 [...] detailed analysis of the financial needs of the NHS in England is underway. Department of Health and Treasury officials are poring over projections for health demand. They need to be sure that the £8 billion identified by NHS chiefs is realistic. That figure was reached after assuming highly ambitious efficiency savings of £22 billion by 2020. Ministers want to be assured that figure is achievable.
