Sugary drinks tax 'would stop millions becoming obese' - BBC News
And TV chef Jamie Oliver has campaigned for the tax saying it was the "single most important" change that could be made. The director general of the British Soft Drinks Association, Gavin Partington, said: "The hypothetical claims made in this modelling study run contrary to real-world evidence. "In fact, the soft drinks tax in Mexico has reduced average calorie intake by six calories per person per day, with no evidence that it has reduced levels of obesity." He added that other options such as reducing portion sizes or changing ingredients would be more effective.

Blood pressure drugs rethink urged - BBC News
[ pushing more meds to prevent. LOL. with the side effects and possible death, from medication side effects/medical complications, is ~4th leading cause of death. ] More lives could be saved if doctors considered giving blood pressure drugs to all patients at high risk of heart disease - even if their blood pressures are normal, a study suggests.

Cancer is not just 'bad luck' but down to environment, study suggests - BBC News
They said the results consistently suggested 70-90% of the risk was due to extrinsic factors. [...] "There is still an element of luck as not every smoker gets cancer, but they have stacked the odds against them. "From a public health point of view, we want to remove as many bullets as possible from the chamber." [...] Dr Emma Smith, from Cancer Research UK, said: "While healthy habits like not smoking, keeping a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet and cutting back on alcohol are not a guarantee against cancer, they do dramatically reduce the risk of developing the disease." //&!
