DECLINE of EMPIRES: The Signs of Decay - YouTube
Chalmers Johnson, author of Blowback, Sorrows of Empire and Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic , talks about the similarities in the decline of the Roman and Soviet empires and the signs that the U.S. empire is exhibiting the same symptoms: overextension, corruption and the inability to reform [ in face of global change and internal ideology.] - min 15 + fiscal overstretch that does not serve people (economic multiplier, ie NSA, military bases, personnel, and long-term obligations ie pension and benefits) ... and unable to change bc of ideology married with identity (the American Dream is still alive and this country is fair and meritocratic) as well unable to keep up with global economic competition as a whole (take out Silicon Valley). & unable to smell crony capitalism (no shared economic interest), corruption and bribery when its showing up (ie TTIP, NAFTA and co.) &! Supreme Court to Cops: 'Get a Warrant' for Cell Phone Searches - Businessweek
The U.S. Supreme Court, in a decision with broad implications for digital privacy rights and police investigations, ruled today that police must generally get a warrant before searching the cells phones of people they arrest. The court heard two cases related to warrantless searches of cell phones and how the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable search and seizure applies to new technologies.

See very last part of the discussion: Stasi Officers Interview 'it is naive to think that this intelligence will not be used (abused) for other purposes.' ... ie throwing off other foreign state officials that have done wrong, and USA, the West wants to have removed for a more Western leaning replacement. ... Let's say Erdogan. Stuff got on the internet about him and his family; bribery, taxevasion, corruption etc. leading up to local elections. ... UN declares that the right to privacy, including online privacy, is a human right : worldnews
This is a misleading article. Here is the press release: "The draft, approved without a vote, would have the General Assembly call upon Member States to review their procedures, practices and legislation on the surveillance of communications, their interception and collection of personal data, including mass surveillance, with a view to upholding the right to privacy by ensuring the full and effective implementation of all relevant obligations under international human rights law" So no. The UN did not declare it. The Third committee submitted a draft.

Op-Ed: What happens to WikiLeaks matters to everyone
The problem is that this concern for the First Amendment protections of the press and of citizens in general, is a new development. Just last year the Department of Justice was caught spying on the offices of the Associated Press. That spying led to a source going to prison for 43 months. That was not an isolated incident and the DOJ’s war on journalism goes back quite some time. In 2006, it was revealed that DOJ was targeting a freelance journalist covering the Free Trade Area of the Americas conference. That is certainly nowhere near as important to the Department as shutting down a vile enemy of freedom like WikiLeaks. But they managed to find the resources to go after a freelance journalist covering a trade agreement.

Syrien-Einsatz: Britisches Parlament blockiert Einsatz in Syrien - SPIEGEL ONLINE "More importantly, the "people" in the UK actually had a voice, which is more than can so far be said about developments in the US. And speaking of the US, the NYT reports that even as the Syrian war "option" is slowly being shut out for staunch US allies (except for France of course), that Obama is "willing to move ahead with a limited military strike on Syria even while allies like Britain are debating whether to join the effort [ZH: and have now voted against it] and without an endorsement from the United Nations Security Council" citing senior administration officials." + Pushback on Syria (Doug Bandow) /watch?v=knCUxNj0wQI

Bundesbank questions legality of EU bail-outs - Telegraph
Germany's Bundesbank has issued a blistering critique of EU bail-out policies, warning that the eurozone is drifting towards a debt union without "democratic legitimacy" or treaty backing.

"The latest agreements mean that far-reaching extra risks will be shifted to those countries providing help and to their taxpayers, and entail a large step towards a pooling of risks from particular EMU states with unsound public finances," said the bank's August report. It said an EU summit deal in late July threatens the principle that elected parliaments should control budgets. The Bundesbank said the scheme leaves creditor states with escalating "risks and burdens" yet no means of enforcing fiscal discipline to make this workable.

A New Aristocracy?
The latest evidence of this growing aristocratic power is the story about a special deal to exempt union members from the new health care tax. Consider Jane and Joe. They work for two different companies, but they do the same job. They make the same pay and they have the same benefits. Jane belongs to a group that has been overtly supportive of current administration's policies — a union. Joe does not. A 40 percent excise tax will be levied on Joe's health insurance plan, but Jane will be exempt. Is this a big deal? It is a $60 billion benefit. Is it constitutional? Probably not.
