No skin thick enough: The daily harassment of women in the game industry | Polygon
the internet brings out the worst in people and society - because it is frictionless. wait 10 year and we hope we died 10 years ago. // ""You don’t really recover from this kind of abuse. You just change." She’s right. Often, I’ll see people lashing out at women they perceive as too bitchy or too confrontational. They don’t understand that we are the sum of our experiences. The toxic environment causes us to change. If people attack you online, you’re going to get defensive quickly. If people sexually harass you, you’re going to grow more inward, and more protective. It’s a very human reaction, and there is no way to face this daily reality without it changing who you are."

Miley Cyrus Says Instagram Is Worse For Your Brain than Marijuana | | Betabeat
Here are the deets, according to the Guardian: Cyrus, who became famous as a Disney child star in Hannah Montana, told Sunday Night that “I put some picture of me smoking weed … on my Instagram because I was brought up in the way that we never thought marijuana was bad,” when asked about her use of the banned substance. “You know what hurts your brain? Googling yourself. You know what hurts your brain? Instagram. You know what hurts your brain? Reading comments on Facebook. You know what hurts your brain? Reading US Weekly,” she said.

A Never-Ending Economic Crisis?
In 2008, the global economy experienced a brutal financial retraction not seen since the 1930s. The value of virtually every asset in the world was reappraised downward, led by housing in the United States. The situation was like an unstoppable force of nature. In response, most of the world’s central banks, including the Federal Reserve in the United States, slashed short-term interest rates to near zero percent and flooded the financial system with liquidity. World governments produced fiscal-stimulus packages of mind-boggling size. Global governments spent an astonishing $17 trillion to support the world economy in the form of bailouts, guarantees, and stimulus packages. To put this number in perspective, $17 trillion represents one quarter of global GDP. Aggregate government budget deficits jumped by 737 percent over the previous year.
