Grand Designs - South Yorkshire, 2013 - All 4
Kevin McCloud reveals the designs which have reinvented the suburbs // [the new house] it's energy can start a new context [...] can transform an area. // suburbs have the freedom to design [...] can always revisit and redesign/build new to reflect time and thought // housing is ever more uniform in UK, no supply (no choice) forces demand to accept what is on offer; status quo is one big developer, all houses uniform because its cheaper that way for the developer to build and extract most profit out of contract (lowest bidder symptom), get couple of developers for a plot and you get some difference but still sameness (garden variety) [REFLECTIVE OF SOCIETY AND CAPITALISM AT LARGE, NO INDIVIDUALISM/INDIVIDUALITY. STATUS ANXIETY: JUST ABOUT THE PRICE TAG AND BRAND]. get 100s of developers and you get Progressive new suburb that reflects time, culture, ideas, thought, mood, principles, ... making a place! // << Nasty Party has no guts. No principles. No guiding light. No mark.

German Chemist Pushes for Smarter Use of Materials through C2C - SPIEGEL ONLINE
Austerity and sacrifice, the favorite disciplines of many environmentalists, are anathema to him. The German environmental movement? "A club of guilt managers deprived of enjoyment." The proponents of sustainability? "They're optimizing the wrong thing." To turn his theory into practice, Braungart has established a company, EPEA. His German clients include personal care products giant Beiersdorf and lingerie maker Triumph, mail order company Otto and cosmetics maker Aveda. Braungart advises Volkswagen, Unilever and BMW. With his help, HeidelbergCement developed a special cement that purifies the air once its been processed into concrete. And, in 2013, Puma introduced the first fully recyclable athletic clothing collection, which includes compostable shoes. [...] "There is enormous political and especially economic resistance, because an economy based on wastefulness is very profitable," says Müller. "It isn't as though we lack technological solutions. ...."
