How The Facebook Bubble Is Driving Online Startups Into The Arms Of Offline Advertising | TechCrunch
FB accounts for >70% of all Social Media Ad spending! The rest is spend on Twitter and elsewhere. Programmatic Advertising is a crutch for native Web advertising to compete with FBs ability to slice and dice and analyse every nook and cranny. FB likes to be the web equivalent; Internet.org and asking/offering content creators/news papers to host content inside their Walls. And remember, Google missed this Social train badly, tried w Google+ after failing with Buzz. Was also late with (native) Mobile Search & just got going. And their last quarter(s) hinted at a stall of their advertising business and Wall Street doesn't like seeing this behemoth relying on just one business model while Nest Labs was a defensive acquisition (competing w Apple) and they lost out to FB to acquire WhatsApp. And if any Google X project will be able to live up to AdSense(Google Search) is questionable. Google might begin slowly dying soon in next 5 years by thousand cuts, like MSFT late 90's. Time is ripe.

Unrest at Nest Labs
Coming from Dropcam, which boasted a much more egalitarian culture, a clash seems all but inevitable. Yet these employees also suggest that the differences between Dropcam and Nest are not just stylistic. One Nest employee says that Nest, which employs between 700 and 800 people, will see roughly double the revenue of Dropcam this year but that Dropcam, which employs 100 people, is growing its revenue eight times as fast, thanks largely to its subscription business. Many employees were reportedly disappointed to sell to Google because “we were firing on all cylinders, with a sensor product about to be released and an outdoor camera about to come out in 2015 and great sales. It just felt like we’d been chopped off at the knees.”

At Google, Larry Page Finds His Right-Hand Man - The Information
When Mr. Page tried in vain to convince WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum not to sell the messaging startup to Facebook for $19 billion two months ago, it was Mr. Pichai who accompanied Mr. Page to the high-stakes talks rather than Vic Gundotra, who was in charge of Google’s social products and would have seemed a more fitting choice. [...] // @nest founder & former Apple exec @tfadell now 'owns' @Google's consumer hardware division, acc to @theinformation (via @verge); Google SVP Sundar Pichai reportedly dismantled most of @Android's hardware initiatives to give Fadell 'creative freedom' w/ future products following the acquisition of Nest || Reply :: The Information is 100% wrong! BBC News - Google Glass - a fascinating failure?
I am still excited by the promise of wearable computers, and convinced that this is a trend that will go mainstream at some point in the next five years. But that will depend on powerful pervasive networks and devices that are both attractive to wear and so easy to use that you forget that you have them on.

BBC News - Google buys up games controller firm Green Throttle Games
Mobile Market is saturated. Now comes the fight for the living room and making the living room/TV/Movie/Surfing experience more like 21st Century. And cable companies (middle man) will become obsolete in the coming years. "More recently, the company announced the low-cost Chromecast dongle. The device allows content from a mobile device to be played out on a television. Joining Google from Green Throttle Games will be co-founders Matt Crowley and Karl Townsend. Mr Townsend was lead engineer for the Palm Pilot, a pioneering handheld device. + http://pando.com/2014/03/11/google-buys-the-ghost-of-green-throttle-games-as-tv-arms-race-gathers-speed/

VC Stewart Alsop: How I pissed off Steve Jobs - YouTube
Steve Job's last big gig was designing and figuring out the Apple TV, where TV is an app and the Device, what is known as TV is a super-size iMac. A Personal Computer. Plus they probably will make the iPad and Apple TV / iTV connect to each other so you can use the iPas and iPhone as 2nd Screen and do social media and surfing and sharing while watching TV. // Google acquisition of Nest Lab is also talent acquisition - Tony Fadell - a former Apple Execs. But he is a Product Guy and those are valuable, and Apple competed with Google for Nest Labs and thus Tony Fadell. Larry Page needs Fadell to improve Google's product line and future products and teach other Googlers 'product development, management and how to think about it correctly.' >> Android, Nexus, Google Chrome, Google Glasses, Google Car, Google ChromeCast. The big things that bring in the money. // // bn dollar companies have an asshole at their helm, that one that steps on people to get his way, get things done, rolling.
