How to eat like a Victorian - BBC News
According to a study published in the Royal Society of Medicine, "How the Mid-Victorians Worked, Ate and Died", the combination of enormous amounts of physical activity (most people did physically demanding jobs which meant they were active for 50 to 60 hours a week) and a diet rich in fruits, whole grains, oily fish and vegetables meant that Victorians suffered less from chronic, degenerative diseases than we do.
Dr Paul Clayton, one of the authors of the study, claims that they were "90% less likely to develop cancer, dementia and coronary artery disease than we are today". It certainly meant that diseases like type-2 diabetes, which plague modern society, were vanishingly rare.

NHS budget control 'will require staff cuts'
It says the government should be honest about NHS spending plans at a time when patient demand is rising. [...] The NHS leadership is set to unveil plans to get hospitals and other trusts to stick to agreed spending limits. In the last financial year, trusts ran up a collective deficit of £2.4bn - and the aim is to cut that figure significantly. [...] "It is no longer credible to argue that the NHS can continue to meet increasing demand for services, deliver current standards of care and stay within its budget. This is widely understood within the NHS and now needs to be debated with the public. "There are no easy choices, but it would be disastrous to adopt a mindset that fails to acknowledge the serious state of the NHS in England today." //&! bbc.in/29mkr7G - An overspend would be a serious breach of Whitehall protocol and lead to senior officials being hauled over the coals by the National Audit Office.

Is the NHS in England stuck with soaring demand?
service struggling to keep up with demand. [...] ambulance response times, delays in A&E, and treatment for cancer - have been missed. All this against a background of increased attendances, more referrals & GPs being busier than ever. So is the NHS is stuck in a never-ending cycle of soaring demand? The kitchen at Stanborough Lodge care home in Welwyn Garden City is part of the NHS frontline in the fight to ease the strain on hospitals. [...] Staff and residents of care homes are being taught to cook nutritious foods [...] "And I think we're going to have to see the NHS pull its finger out a bit in terms of making those investments." Obesity 'likely culprit' behind womb cancer rise
Rising levels of obesity may be fuelling an increase in the number of women diagnosed with womb cancer, the charity Cancer Research UK warns.
Its figures show around 19 in every 100,000 women in the UK were diagnosed with the disease in the 1990s - climbing to 29 in 100,000 in 2013.
Researchers acknowledge the science behind how extra weight is linked to cancer is not clear - but say hormones produced by extra fat may play a part.
They say more studies are needed.

Government planning to repeal animal welfare codes
Poultry industry to oversee chicken-farming standards as ministers move to create industry-led deregulation. Conservative ministers are planning to repeal an array of official guidance on animal welfare standards, starting with a move to put the code on chicken-farming into the hands of the poultry industry.

Liz Truss, the environment secretary, is overseeing moves to scrap the statutory codes on farm animal welfare and move to an “industry-led” guidance as part of her department’s deregulatory agenda. [ so industry funds its own regulatory body, lol! ] [...] Other sectors that could get control of their own guidance include the cattle, sheep and pig farming industries. //&! Sugar tax: How bold is it?
[Gov still wants to carry out a consultation = Watered down by Food Lobby ] But the more important question is whether this will have an impact on child obesity rates. One in 10 children start primary school obese. By the end, one in five are obese. If you add in those who are overweight, it's one in three. [...] our diets are simply not good enough. [...] Food Foundation produced a model of a typical family's diet. [...] consumed too much sugar and saturated fat and too little fibre, fruit, vegetables and oily fish. [...] However, this should not be seen in isolation. The government is expected to publish its much delayed child obesity strategy in the summer. That could include restrictions on advertising and marketing, as well as a sustained campaign to reduce the sugar content of foods and drinks across the board.

'Almost too late': fears of global superbug crisis in wake of antibiotic misuse | Society | The Guardian
Despite European Union regulations aiming to cut back on the unnecessary use of antibiotics, Dr Brown believes it will take more than just legislation to tackle the superbug crisis. Market forces will need to be compelled to cut usage, perhaps when prompted by a shift in public opinion, he said. “Those with a vested interest find ways around legislation. So, in addition to public policy we will need also the power of market forces,” he added. “When the public start demanding meat that has not seen antibiotics - because they understand that the meat may contain antibiotic resistant bacteria - only then will real progress be made. We need education about the threat.”

More maternity units closing doors, union warns - BBC News
The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) said a shortage of midwives was having a major impact and mistakes would "almost certainly be made". Some 42% of units shut down temporarily in the past year, its survey found. The government said it was determined to ensure "every mother and baby gets the highest quality care". A poll of 83 heads of midwifery at NHS trusts found there had been a rise in the number of units that had closed their doors, with 33% having closed the previous year. The RCM said budget cuts were also affecting services, with midwives struggling to cope with a rising birth rate and increasingly complex births. [...] But he added that rising numbers of complex pregnancies were also putting pressure on other UK countries. [...] The RCM says there is a shortage of 2,600 full-time midwives.

Cancer virus discovery helped by delayed flight - BBC News
Epstein Barr virus // Wikipedia - It is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever). It is also associated with particular forms of cancer, such as Hodgkin's lymphoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, gastric cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and conditions associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), such as hairy leukoplakia and central nervous system lymphomas. There is evidence that infection with EBV is associated with a higher risk of certain autoimmune diseases, especially dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, and multiple sclerosis. Some 200,000 cancer cases per year are thought to be attributable to EBV. //&! http://nutritionfacts.org/?s=chicken //&! Cholesterol and Alzheimer’s disease - YouTube
>> medical profession may come around: what is bad for your arteries and heart is bad for your brain as new research shows. cholesterol levels do play role/correlate with "Cerebral amyloid angiopathy"/beta-amyloid formation in the brain aka brain plaques. After all, its a build up of the arteries in our brain (brain consists mostly of fat) "Cerebral amyloid angiopathy is a neurological condition in which proteins called amyloid build up on the walls of the arteries in the brain. The condition increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke and dementia." - 1.usa.gov/1MlBi6u // And prevention is better than cure because cognitive function starts to be lost early on before medical/personal detection of the condition. // LDL cholestero may be able to cross blood brain barrier. You're assholes'." "I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again." Gomez went on to criticise the tabloid press, who have spent years picking apart her relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber as "vile". "I've been working since I was seven. I've been a Unicef ambassador since I was 17. It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story," she said.

It's a case by case. Patient Compliance. WHY? Because people grew und and still live in an environment that is rigged against their health.

Chemistry Nobel: Lindahl, Modrich and Sancar win for DNA repair - BBC News
Their work uncovered the mechanisms used by cells to repair damaged DNA - a fundamental process in living cells and important in cancer. [...] DNA is open to an onslaught of different phenomena that can generate defects in our genomes. UV radiation and molecules known as free radicals can cause damage. Furthermore, defects can arise when DNA is copied during cell division - a process that occurs millions of times each day in our bodies. "Cigarette smoke contains small reactive chemicals, which bind to the DNA and prevent it from being replicated properly - so they are mutagens. And once there is damage in the DNA this can cause diseases including cancer," said Prof Lindahl.

Study gives strongest link yet between blood pressure and diabetes | Society | The Guardian
People who have high blood pressure are almost 60% more likely to develop diabetes, according to research on 4.1 million people. The Oxford University study provides the strongest evidence yet of a link between the two conditions. Experts behind the study said more research was needed to see whether using drugs to lower blood pressure would help prevent people developing type 2 diabetes. [ ... stupid, high blood pressure is first thing body gives up (pre-cursor, first thing that gives, arterial function because shit gets clogged up via oil and animal protein, animal products)), next pancreas, are ppl w high blood pressure pre-diabetic and or have already signs of insulin resistance?! again example of looking not at the patient but the symptom/one detail by its own ... ] High blood pressure was linked with new cases of diabetes in a wide range of individuals, including men and women, people of varying ages, as well as those who were normal weight (TOFI!!!), overweight and obese.

The Death of Reason: Why People Don't Listen to Reason and Evidence - YouTube
logic and empiricism can be dangerous to reproduction // seeking information that reaffirms their conviction, life, ... cognitive bias, confirmation bias. // keeping up with the Jonses, keeping up with the bad habits. // unfalsifiability is a dangerous thing - truth-defying decisions (eating meat) - fabric of hostility to reason. // I drink therefore I am. I eat meat, therefore I am. // This is a war of attrition! // No problems to identify contradictions! ... The brain just rejects information, quickly. Negative emotions turned off, and positive reinforcement information is like an addiction. Positive reinforcement information ... for bad habits and bias. //

Vegan diet DESTROYED my health - YouTube
Carnism is a learned behaviour. Human beings not born to hunt/eat. They have to be shown and told they have to do it and that is the right thing to do ... according their parents/teachers. There are couple of videos about kids crying out loud literally as they find out that the thing on their plate is the thing they see on telly in these beautiful nature documentaries ... like the boy from brazil not wanting to eat the octopus or - youtu.be/OZLoj9pPFUs "don't want to eat animals anymore"

Wasser: Mineralwasser, Leitungswasser - Welches ist am besten? - SPIEGEL ONLINE

// retweet and facebook like/share does not correlate with personal action! // long-lasting change comes from intrinsic motivation (self education leads to taking action one self). Grows only slowly and Vegan trend is example. Slowly but steadily. One by one. Tribe is growing. // Can't be done entirely w nanny state nor corporate PR. Modern life is about conformity. Easy. Bc life is already hard enough. Thus effort seems unsurmountable obstacle (obstacles put in your way of change, ie going vegan). Turnaround. Admitting one was wrong the whole time and being deceived. Comfortable w status quo, uncomfortable standing out. // &! youtu.be/eEDCC5dHw_Y - ask the right question (framing). // Book: Groundswell.
