Yahoo lacks detailed information about most of its mobile users because they aren’t logged into an account. Without that data, it will be tougher for Yahoo to make progress in selling ads.

The Surveillance Economy and Extreme Income Inequality: You Can't Have One Without the Other - YouTube
Uber and Airbnb is equal to informal economy (uncertainty) = staying power only for owner of marketplace (wealth accumulation & ultimate bargain power as owner of (monopoly/oligopoly form of marketplace). Silicon Valley made the informal economy cool again bc its on your smartpone (homescreen). Uber & Co are becoming, as owners of said marketplace, the new super elite (with no shared economic interest & no stakeholder in local economy). Disenfranchised & Price war. // The perfect, crazy, too good to be true, idea - will crash eventually (accumulating wealth with little to no input [see stakeholder theory/shared economic interest/long-term views and interest!]). // Start-up Lesson/Advice: "cost of choice" & paying computation with advertising = corruption (Google, Facebook &Co) paying (Wall Street, short-termism [Fast Food]) for micro-management of your life, of your choice. = U loosing free will. // youtu.be/kZO8mgarU0k youtu.be/XdEuII9cv-U youtu.be/cCvf2DZzKX0 youtu.be/5puB_7Q2n74

Uber, the Rashomon | PandoDaily
[ low skill, routine job ] When an Uber glides to its appointed pickup point, what do we see? Do we see an innovator hastening the inexorable shift to a new information-based economy? Or an arrogant bully using cheap capital, greed, and a dangerous, misogynist culture of convenience to consolidate a trillion dollar market? Or do we see both? [...] I’m sure pure Uber defenders exist, but the truth is, most of us are worried about the sheer expression of capitalistic force that the company represents. [...] Uber is the poster child for our global conversation about the role of work in our society, and about the kind of company we want to create, work at, and celebrate. [SV] its male-dominated, aggressive philosophy of “breaking things fast” and “asking for forgiveness rather than permission.” Uber feels inevitable — a uniquely of-the-moment company, a mirror held up to the Valley’s aggregate psyche.

The Shazam Effect - The Atlantic
"“Because the most-popular songs now stay on the charts for months, the relative value of a hit has exploded. The top 1 percent of bands and solo artists now earn 77 percent of all revenue from recorded music, media researchers report. And even though the amount of digital music sold has surged, the 10 best-selling tracks command 82 percent more of the market than they did a decade ago. The advent of do-it-yourself artists in the digital age may have grown music’s long tail, but its fat head keeps getting fatter.”" &! http://www.theatlantic.com/video/index/382837/who-made-pop-music-so-repetitive-you-did/ &! http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/11/24/revenue-streams?currentPage=all &! http://www.katinkahesselink.net/his/influence-theosophy.html &! http://ma.tt/2014/11/science-of-hits/

Twitter knows if you’re male or female, which is only the beginning for targeted ads | PandoDaily
Gender is only the beginning. A company called Leadsift recently launched a new product that claims to analyze tweets to predict a user’s age, salary, and buying habits. “We extract over a hundred attributes by modeling on a user,” Leadsift CEO Tukan Das tells me. “Let’s say you check into an airport more than three times per month. We’ll automatically learn that you are a frequent flyer and a businessperson.”

Bob Iger Explains Why Disney Bought Maker Studios | Re/code
“We look at it, first and foremost, as a successful distribution platform,” Iger said. “One that can command more eyeballs, more consumption and more advertising revenue.” + Beyond that, Iger said, the Maker team has a depth of expertise in creating short-form video that Disney lacked internally. +++ Big Data ( each channel has an audience (interest, location, age) = better targeting of advertising campaigns. >> “We think there’s a huge marketing opportunity for this company,” Iger said.

Riding the Waves of Irrational Behavior - TIME
Prechter, a soft-spoken, thoughtful, engaging 60-year-old, believes that the bull market of the past eight months that pushed the Dow past 10,000 will inevitably give way to a crash that will drag prices well below the level of early March. He believes this because theories of market behavior put to paper by a guy who died in 1948 tell him so. Yet he makes it all sound perfectly plausible.
