The Trans Movement Needs a New, Science Based Strategy | Brynn Tannehill
Tuesday's defeat of HERO highlights several conclusions that the LGBT movement needs to take to heart for the next decade or so. Foremost is that we will not win transgender issues directly at the ballot box, or in the gerrymandered republican legislatures which dominate the political landscape. [...] When opponents frame legal protections for transgender people as a choice between a group strangers (who are suspected of being perverts anyway) and the safety your wives and daughters, transgender people will lose every time. So far, anti-LGBT forces have been far more successful at pushing their narrative. I don't foresee this changing anytime soon. [...] Convincing large numbers of people driven by fear and religious beliefs simply will not happen. &! &! &!

Trans activist Paris Lees walks out of BBC Newsnight recording - Gay Star News
I’m not prepared to enter into a fabricated debate about trans people’s right to exist/express themselves. ‘There is no “debate”. Some people are trans – I’d have been very happy to go on & talk about the simple issue of human rights for trans people.’ [...] The community was already concerned after anti-trans academic Sheila Jeffreys was asked to appear on BBC Radio 4 show Woman’s Hour on 7 August to discuss her new book. [ Cinderella Service ] Huge regional variations in the waiting times for mental health therapy are "clearly unacceptable" according to mental health charities. Sex Hormones Administered During Sex Reassignment Change Brain Chemistry, Physical Characteristics
while male-to-female transsexuals who received a testosterone blocker and estrogen showed decreased levels of SERT in the brain. SERT plays a significant role in treating mood and anxiety disorders. Many common antidepressants (including Prozac) block its activity by inhibiting serotonin reuptake. Also, some studies have suggested that having a higher level of SERT could increase resistance to stress, and lower the risk of stress and mood disorders. Currently, women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression as men, so the changes in SERT levels associated with the blocking of testosterone are consistent with increased risk of mood and anxiety disorders in females compared to males.  Transgender  SSRI  antidepressant  Serotonin  Tryptophan  anti-depressants  anti-depressant  medical  profession  mental  health  mental  illness

When no gender fits: A quest to be seen as just a person - The Washington Post
“I don’t want to be a girl wearing boy’s clothes, nor do I want to be a girl who presents as a boy,” Kelsey wrote. “I just want to be a person who is recognized as a person. That’s how I’m most comfortable. I’m just a person wearing people clothes, who likes to look like myself and have others see me how I see me.” In Kelsey’s mind, the body that would feel right wasn’t the body Kelsey had now. Kelsey wanted a redistribution of muscle, less on the hips and more in the upper body. A lower voice, though not too much — not to where it would sound like a man’s. Neutral.
