In search of surrogates, foreign couples descend on Ukraine - BBC News
Foreign couples have been coming to this corner of Europe in droves since 2015, when surrogacy hotspots in Asia began closing their industries one-by-one, amid reports of exploitation. Barred from India, Nepal and Thailand, they turned to Ukraine, one of the few places left where surrogacy can still be arranged at a fraction of what it costs in the US.

"We have so many childless couples coming to our country - it's like a conveyor belt," says Ana, who asked for her identity to be protected.

When she was 21, and after some years of hotel work, Ana finally decided to become a surrogate. By then she had a daughter and realised she was eligible. Under Ukrainian law, a surrogate must have a child of their own before carrying someone else's. If you have your own child, you are less likely to become attached to the one you must give away, those who recruit the women say. [...] Europe's capital of surrogacy
Demand for surrogacy in Ukraine "has increased probably 1000% in the last two years alone," says Sam Everingham of Families Through Surrogacy, a Sydney-based charity that advises would-be parents.

The country, he adds, "has found itself almost accidentally as one of the handful of nation states" which allow surrogacy tourism.

Over a quarter of adoptive families in crisis, survey shows - BBC News
More than a quarter of families, when asked to describe their adoption, said they were facing serious challenges that had an impact on the wider family, were at risk of breakdown or disruption, or had already been disrupted.
Almost half said their adoption was "challenging but stable" and just over a quarter described it as "fulfilling and stable".

Magistrate sacked for opposing same-sex adoption is suspended by NHS
Richard Page suspended as non-executive director by Kent and Medway trust after being struck off from bench [...] Richard Page, who sat on the family bench in Kent, was struck off after telling the BBC in March 2015: “My responsibility as a magistrate, as I saw it, was to do what I considered best for the child, and my feeling was therefore that it would be better if it was a man and woman who were the adopted parents.”

Andrew Ling, chairman of the Kent and Medway NHS and social care partnership trust (KMPT), has written to the NHS Trust Development Authority (TDA) requesting the suspension of the 69-year-old.

Page, who has worked in the field of mental health for 20 years, said about his suspension: “Last week, the prime minister distributed an Easter video in which he commended Christians and the church for their vital role in society, stating that we are a Christian country and should be proud of it.

US-Eltern meiden Adoption afroamerikanischer Kinder - SPIEGEL ONLINE

& http://pando.com/2014/10/08/quartz-coins-the-venmo-line-reminding-us-that-the-under-30-crowd-lives-in-a-totally-different-digital-world/

Why Apple Pay Will Hurt PayPal | Re/code
[ A commoditization drives down prices/charges. Credit Card Companies will in the future charge less or gobble up maybe Stripe (Visa or other one) as people link up their bank account with one or more online/mobile payment options and leave credit cards at home, or as early adopters might do - get even rid of credit cards. as ur phone is your wallet. ] 3. PayPal is now battling both Apple and Google for real estate on the checkout pages of mobile apps. PayPal has history on its side, but Apple and Google arguably have greater affection from consumers. If payment buttons from Apple and Google proliferate, PayPal’s button suffers. PayPal and Braintree see their button as a way to convince app makers to use their system. But that system has lost its unique place within the world of app payments with Apple Pay coming into the picture.

Franchise redux: The professionalization of the sharing economy has deep implications | PandoDaily
But for all Airbnb and Uber’s much deserved “disruptive” acclaim, these businesses have older roots than the hype cycle suggests. According to conventional wisdom, Airbnb and Uber enable “regular individuals” to make a few extra bucks renting out an extra bedroom or giving fellow travelers a ride. They unlock a new class of assets, where fellow consumers share in collaborative consumption. In fact, while these businesses nailed rapidly changing consumer preferences  –  buying services at time of usage, rather than owning assets fits the post-recession, Millennial sensibility of the moment –  the supply side of their businesses does not match the narrative. Supply in these marketplaces is increasingly delivered by entrepreneurial, small business owners, not fellow consumers. Uber and Airbnb are best understood as reimagined franchise operations that leverage mobile data, the social graph, and continuous feedback loops to deliver a better consumer experience.
