'It was a collaboration between Hitler and the people.' again Brexit Trump - bridge between poor people and elites. Allister Heath "sacred and historic compact between elites and people” // Carl Jung - people dont have ideas, ideas have people. // Ben Shapiro / Milo Yiannopoulos / Douglas Murray / et al // Jordan Peterson Tweet about sexual assault/rape/abuse/violence post-Weinstein 'its time to get sex back into marriage.' is a anti post-modernism answer - retrotopia to the problem. In our focus on the digital, have we lost our sense of what being human means? | Genevieve Bell | Opinion | The Guardian
MAKE OUR OWN FUTURE - And of course, there are bigger questions about the role of technology more broadly. In making the machines smarter, we have sacrificed a little something of ourselves – we run the risk of being reduced to data and the decisions it drives. I believe we are more than data, more than just intelligence. I worry that, in our current focus on the digital, we have lost some of our agency and some of our sense of what being human might mean. But I don’t believe this is inevitable or irreversible.

How the Tory election machine fell apart | Politics | The Guardian
Fiona Hill Nick Timothy Lynton Crosby // Tim Bale, a historian of the party and professor of politics at the University of London, argues that the Tories have gradually stopped presenting voters with an appealing vision of Britain. “In the 80s, they had a good balance of negativity and positivity,” he says. This meant exploiting the flaws of Labour leaders such as Michael Foot and Neil Kinnock while also promising a society of entrepreneurs and mass property ownership, an attractive idea in an era of increasing materialism. Yet at the 1992 election, under Thatcher’s less secure successor, John Major, this started to change. “He didn’t want a negative campaign,” says Bale, “but he was persuaded.” When the Conservatives won the election unexpectedly, victory was attributed by many Tories – and commentators and Labour politicians – to a single crude-but-effective Conservative campaign phrase: “Labour’s Tax Bombshell.”

The left should just admit it: victims aren’t always good people | Deborah Orr | Opinion | The Guardian
[ see alain de botton analysis in one of the many videos, babies are a blank canvas, what happesn to them is a collective decision process, the environment in front of their eyes and as far back as westminster ] Human beings, despite the witless homilies of humanism, don’t all start out good and kind and perfect, only to have it driven out of them by a cruel world. Cherished children sometimes grow up to be antisocial, gazing with dead-eyed contempt at the people whose love they exploit. There can be no human utopia, because there will always be humans in it.

Revealed: how US billionaire helped to back Brexit | Politics | The Guardian
It has emerged that Robert Mercer, a hedge-fund billionaire, who helped to finance the Trump campaign and who was revealed this weekend as one of the owners of the rightwing Breitbart News Network, is a long-time friend of Nigel Farage. He directed his data analytics firm to provide expert advice to the Leave campaign on how to target swing voters via Facebook – a donation of services that was not declared to the electoral commission. [[...] see Adam Curtis interview about Big Data & Facebook (history), it can't imagine a Utopia bc limitations of present conversation build on the past! Always reverting to the past "do you like this, then read this" >> https://youtu.be/tVx3lt8ZKHw?t=30m38s - engineering systems seek stability, status quo, this is the the internet, facebook , filter bubble granulare blasen (book granular). cant imagine future never existed and personal growth. donald trump, usa got donald, bc the internet knows what USA are. same with brexit.

Fred Block: The Tenacity of the Free Market Ideology - YouTube
Fred Block discusses his book “The Power of Market Fundamentalism,” which extends the work of the great political economist Karl Polanyi to explain why free market dogma recovered from disrepute after the Great Depression and World War II to become the dominant economic ideology of our time. // wo state role there would be no market system. // need social democracy in complex diverse society - representing people // freedom in complex diverse society = free of hunger and economic uncertain & freedom of nonconformity - protections, no marginalisation, no economic punishment // social democracy and free market are both Utopias // Thatcher & Co blaming State for malaise! nobody likes technocratic arguments, leaves public out, thus was able to make big return. // wealth creation through efficiency route takes more work and capital than predation (rentier/rent seeking) - ie relaxing fuel efficiency savings regulation for Detroit back in the days // trust that state can support innovation
