[ does diet and epigentics play a role, science knows that risk is higher if you have family case. big pharma would not be amused to hear that schizophrenic schizophrenia episodes could be reduced with an anti-inflammatory diet and active lifestyle. and anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) do not work at the same rate and have side effects (lower efficacy) ] Brain scans found an overactive immune system in patients as well as in those at high risk of schizophrenia. The UK Medical Research Council team wants to test anti-inflammatory drugs to treat or even prevent the disease. [...] There has been mounting evidence that the immune system and inflammation play a key role in schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions. //&! >> ie &! - Poultry workers ...

Your mental health stories: 'I felt palmed off' - BBC Newsbeat
[ underfunded Cinderella Service ] However, a charity has found mental health services in England are turning away one in five children who are referred to them for treatment. The NSPCC says a lot of the time they did not meet the required "high clinical threshold". This wasn't a surprise to many of you. Nor our journalists who worked on our podcast series, The Story of Izzy Dix. Here is why. [...] They felt depressed and alone, they wanted counselling but instead were prescribed medication. Their stories not only give you an idea of the mental health problems many young people are dealing with on a daily basis, but also the scale of the problem facing the NHS. //&! - Figures from 35 mental health trusts across England show that a total of 186,453 cases were referred by GPs and other professionals for help, but 39,652 children did not receive it. The most common reason was that the child did not meet the clinical threshold for receiving help from CAMHS.

Sex Hormones Administered During Sex Reassignment Change Brain Chemistry, Physical Characteristics
while male-to-female transsexuals who received a testosterone blocker and estrogen showed decreased levels of SERT in the brain. SERT plays a significant role in treating mood and anxiety disorders. Many common antidepressants (including Prozac) block its activity by inhibiting serotonin reuptake. Also, some studies have suggested that having a higher level of SERT could increase resistance to stress, and lower the risk of stress and mood disorders. Currently, women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression as men, so the changes in SERT levels associated with the blocking of testosterone are consistent with increased risk of mood and anxiety disorders in females compared to males.  Transgender  SSRI  antidepressant  Serotonin  Tryptophan  anti-depressants  anti-depressant  medical  profession  mental  health  mental  illness

Both Talk Therapy And Medication May Be Less Effective For Depression : Shots - Health News : NPR
For both talk therapy and antidepressants, researchers found that the apparent effectiveness was inflated by publication bias -- meaning that studies about treatments that work are more likely to be published than those about treatments that don't. // // make case to get re-funded / personal health budget for gym use and road bike! its about patient compliance (side effects).

BBC One - Panorama, The Truth about Pills and Pregnancy + Decades after the Thalidomide scandal shocked the world, Panorama reveals how another medicine has damaged far more children. Drugs cannot be tested on pregnant women for ethical reasons, so doctors do not know if most prescription drugs are safe for the unborn child, and the system set up to monitor side-effects appears to be flawed. As evidence emerges that some common antidepressants are linked to heart defects in babies, the programme asks how much we really know about the safety of medicines women take while pregnant. >> >> - up to 20000 may be harmed by Epilim in UK. 1000 by Thalidomide in UK. >> >> some medicine 'seem' not safe for childbearing women. ie antidepressants.
