Trouble in Paradise: the rise and fall of Germany's 'brothel king' | Hilke Lorenz | Global development | The Guardian
Rudloff is now serving a five-year sentence for aiding and abetting trafficking. His trial laid bare the misery and abuse of women working as prostitutes at his club who, according to court documents, were treated like animals and beaten if they didn’t make enough money. His imprisonment has dismantled the idea of Germany’s “clean prostitution” industry and raised troubling questions about what lies behind the legalised, booming sex trade.

Sex on the street for £30: Mum-of-two working as a prostitute takes us inside Britain's legal red light district - Mirror Online
The Daily Mirror spent the night in Holbeck, Leeds, and found an unsettling environment where mothers can drop in to easily sell sex to make ends meet at home. [...] For the last year in the Holbeck are of Leeds what is thought to be the country's first managed red-light district has been in operation. The scheme - which is being considered by other local authorities - allows women to work in certain areas without fear of arrest within designated hours as long as they abide by certain rules. Yet three weeks after the trial zone was made permanent 21-year-old prostitute Daria Pionko was killed and questions surfaced about just how successful the scheme is.

Is Escorting the New Feature Dancing? « MikeSouth.Com
like every other girl who comes into porn, she wanted fame, attention and the money but she quickly realized that the business wasn’t what she thought. She had one of the best agents and she had a good work ethic, she drew top dollar bookings for the best companies. Despite this she got Chlamydia twice and Gonorrhea once in the first six weeks she was in the business. She thought, like many that the two week test cycle would protect her but she quickly realized that “with so many people working together all the time STDs stay in the talent pool” She didn’t like most of the male performers she was working with and she quickly had second thoughts. [...] Today it’s less than ten percent who dont escort and that includes the guys. Some people say that is why the STD rates are high and most performers tell me that is true because so many of the porn girls and guys who escort will do it bareback. BBC One - Panorama, Tough Justice in Britain - Texas Style
As the UK's imprisonment rate remains the highest in western Europe, Panorama joins Michael Gove - the man in charge of British prisons - on a fact-finding mission in Texas. 'Hang 'em high' Texas is not the first place you might look for lessons in criminal justice - they execute more people and lock up more offenders than anywhere else in America. But now this conservative state is the unlikely centre of a rehabilitation-led revolution in prison reform that's sweeping through the US. Crime is down, prisoner numbers have fallen and, on top of this, they have cut costs. Are there valuable lessons to be learned here, and are UK politicians really ready to dole out some Texan justice?

Sex trafficking: Lifelong struggle of exploited children - BBC News
In the US, poverty, deprivation and exploitation draws thousands of its own children down into a dark underworld that offers few ways out. [...] The FBI says child sex abuse is almost at an epidemic level, despite the agency rescuing 600 children last year. [...] "Trafficking" often conjures images of people from other countries being smuggled over land and across the sea and then forced to work against their will in foreign lands. People are trafficked into America from Mexico, Central and South America. But the vast majority of children bought and sold for sex every night in the United States are American kids. We have heard from a number of women from the East coast to the Mid-west who have frighteningly similar and horrific stories. Neglected, abused, exploited and often ignored starting from a young age - sometimes even prosecuted by the very people who should have protected them.

complicit and impunity - see same in UK with abuse scandals and paedophiles up and down Britain's Society and especially Westminster - and Met Police looking away during recent history till back then during Thatcher's time and maybe even way back even more. What a picture of society and what it means in a persons life to have "power." And also include the Church! Sure, back then paedophiles, rapists and abusers of any kind often got away with it more or less because of the stigma as victim (you brought this on you) and the lack (non existent) of prosecution and support. Dark ages. Dark ages. That is recent history. Just one generation. Thinking about it is abhorring - that these people still shape our life's to some extent.

BBC News - Numbers of the year 2014
This is the amount that the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimated that prostitution contributed to the economy in 2012, following a decision by the EU that prostitution and illegal drugs should be counted as part of a country's Gross Domestic Product. The ONS estimates that: about 61,000 people work in prostitution in the UK the average cost per visit is about £67 each prostitute sees about 23 clients per week, working 52 weeks a year - in total about 1,200. Multiply those figures up and you get £5.7bn (which is $8.9bn, or 7.3bn euros).

She said the current law, which criminalises the sale of sex, but does not address those who purchase it, fails to help women to exit prostitution. "A lot of these girls are in it because they've got addictions, they're living in poverty and it's the only way they can see to feed habits or to get drink or to pay the electric bill."

Listen to sex workers – we can explain what decriminalisation would mean | Niki Adams | Comment is free | theguardian.com
The English Collective of Prostitutes argued that criminalising clients would undermine women’s safety, drive prostitution further underground and sabotage sex workers’ efforts to keep safe by displacing us to remote areas. Others questioned a crackdown on people who are trying to survive in the face of austerity policies which have increased poverty and therefore prostitution. LBGTQ groups called for an end to this “last vestige of Victorian moralism”, asking why some feminists had allied themselves with evangelical Christians who oppose gay marriage, sex outside marriage and abortion. Mactaggart’s justification for attacking “demand” (clients) is that “prostitution is an extreme form of exploitation”. But exploitation is rife in many industries,

Kiffen: Cannabis-Verbot laut Rechtsexperte verfassungswidrig - SPIEGEL ONLINE
[PSA, eat it in form of Vegan low salt/sugar cookies, don't smoke] - Naht eine Wende in der deutschen Drogenpolitik?

The Dispute Between Radical Feminism and Transgenderism
AND here the critique http://bit.ly/1tXlqLW & http://bit.ly/1ujpPJ9 // http://bit.ly/V1UxtS // http://bit.ly/1orNN4F // "In failing to provide a semblance of balance to the voices in the piece, this account becomes hopelessly skewed, and becomes little more than a radical feminist propaganda piece. Early on in her essay, Goldberg presents an extremely simplified and stereotyped view of trans women’s identities. She writes: “Trans women say that they are women because they feel female — that, as some put it, they have women’s brains in men’s bodies.” First, considering that the length of the article discusses trans people (and focuses heavily on trans women), to reduce the explanation of their complex experiences to three words — “they feel female” — is offensively reductionist. While such a passing nod to trans experiences might be not be out of place in a more LGBTQ-geared publication, in a more general consumption magazine[.]" + http://bit.ly/VkWUIA + http://huff.to/1Bo9aJr

BBC iPlayer - WW1 Uncut - 6. A Tommy's Sex Life
With all the coverage about #WW1 in the last months due to its anniversary ... this is the first time I've come across the topic of brothels, behind the trenches, AS SIGNIFICANT FEATURE of an allied forces soldier's life. "one of the less well-known aspects of WW1. In fact the maisons tolérées were a significant feature of life behind the front line and in towns such as Le Havre there was an extensive network of efficiently run brothels that provided a welcome relief from trench warfare. Inside, the madame-run establishments where the working girls were subject to regular health checks, provided by all accounts a pleasant, frivolous atmosphere whilst outside it was not unusual to see long queues, five or six men deep, even before opening hours. Soldiers from Canada, Australia and New Zealand tended to be better paid than their British colleagues and were therefore able to afford the pick of the girls. Even more divisive was that traditional British fault-line; the class system. ...
