Ellen Pao: ‘I Have Decided to End My Lawsuit Against Kleiner Perkins’ | Re/code
Still, Pao underscored that the deck was stacked against her in terms of resources. “I think it is wrong that employees have to pay in this situation, but I simply cannot afford the risks of more costs to fight a firm with massive PR and legal resources,” she said. “The court system is not set up to create an even playing field.” [...] To be clear, Kleiner and I have not reached any agreement to settle this matter. Settlement might have provided me with financial benefits, but only at the great cost of silence." [...] She said she would continue to speak out on issues of gender disparity, but she was spending time with her family and also returning to investing and working with entrepreneurs. &! on.recode.net/1OfLRII

The Trouble With Reddit’s Content Policy Update | Re/code
It makes sense that hosting what the Southern Poverty Law Center described as the nexus of white supremacism on the Internet makes it difficult to “maintain a healthy and successful platform.” It’s obvious that Reddit doesn’t want to play host to racism and harassment. But the company doesn’t want to compromise too much on the “free speech” principles that hardcore Redditors, who are integral to the day-to-day functions of the site, obsess over. And Reddit also wants to cut ties with well-known hate centers like r/coontown that offend both advertisers and common decency. Reddit’s problem is that it wants to have it both ways. [ tl;dr Reddit wants to be more family friendly to be more attractive to advertisers, after all it has the pageviews to have advertising, what ever form, make it a sizeable revenue pillar. That should have long ago been communicated, still hasn't. ]

Former Reddit CEO alleges co-founder Alexis Ohanian fired Victoria Taylor, not Pao
via redd.it/3d6asv // nyti.ms/1gz0Iks // yishan - former CEO :: Alexis wasn’t some employee reporting to Pao, he was the Executive Chairman of the Board, i.e. Pao’s boss. He had different ideas for AMAs, he didn’t like Victoria’s role, and decided to fire her. Pao wasn’t able to do anything about it. In this case it shouldn’t have traveled upstream to her, it came from above her. Then when the hate-train started up against Pao, Alexis should have been out front and center saying very clearly “Ellen Pao did not make this decision, I did.” Instead, he just sat back and let her take the heat. That’s a stunning lack of leadership and an incredibly shitty thing to do. I actually asked that he be on the board when I joined; I used to respect Alexis Ohanian. After this, not quite so much. // Alexis Ohanian "It was my decision to change how we work with AMAs and the transition was my failure[.]" &! tnw.co/1M7IZ0t &! redd.it/3d2hv3 &! bit.ly/1L5f6O5 Sarah Lacy on Reddit & Digg

>> Ellen Pao wasnt alone, there was Sam Altman and Alexis Ohanian who also aversaw 1) how to make AMAs and Co reddits a business avenue (he plan of how to make money without asking / consulting all stakeholders!) and 2) its lack of mod and community support on a lasting basis and 3) to fire Victoria, and secret santa founder and SVP of product bc they did were not on the same line with the head honchos how to make money with Reddit. Reddit's fate hangs in the balance as revolt against CEO makes waves | Technology | The Guardian
While more than 200,000 Redditors want Ellen Pao to resign, readers are jumping ship to budding competitor sites as top brass pushes to go mainstream [...] Redditors – as users are called – have accused the site of increasingly trying to monetize its popularity, and it appears their sentiments came to a head last Thursday, when Reddit’s popular director of talent, Victoria Taylor, was let go from her post. [...] a company torn between catering to commercial interests, and an obsession with giving voice to every possible perspective. [...] But some have suggested that the latest revolt is a flashpoint in a wider clash of cultures. The web’s largest agglomeration of niche enthusiasts provides a portal for people to make friends and enemies in a wide range of different communities, including some less reputable forums that have come under increasing scrutiny. &! bit.ly/1NMqxYG - Memo to VCs: Not every site with gargantuan traffic is destined to be a billion dollar public company

Notably, I don't see Alexis Ohanian's face photoshopped into pornography, or a petition for his resignation from Reddit's board, even after he indicated that he fired Victoria Taylor (u /chooter). Instead, what I see is more hatred against Ellen Pao.

Reddit Alternatives: Where Will Ellen Pao’s Detractors File Out?
“Everytime I’ve been with a community, whether it be a Usenet group, or forum, or Digg, or Reddit, once it becomes popular, it attracts new people that don’t absorb the culture or share the same attitudes as the founding members. Hopefully it won’t befall this community or Voat or whatever new site takes the mantle of Reddit, but it almost always does in the end, people, sorry to say, just aren’t very nice in large groups, you add money/politics/special interest into the equation as well, and it just makes it doubly terrible.” // &! http://www.wds.co/3-contact-center-lessons-reddits-revolt/ - 1. Reddit Moderators Are Locking Up The Site’s Most Popular Pages In Protest | TechCrunch
Reddit [...] is going through a serious revolt right now. The moderators behind a number of the most popular subreddit pages on the site — which are crucial to Reddit’s traffic and appeal — have made their communities private, thus shutting them off from the wider internet and new users, in protest at the departure of a key Reddit staffer and ongoing poor communications. // [...] [ One deleted Quora answer cited differences between Victoria Taylor & management to push more commercial AMA's (branded native content/advertising) and video (as revenue pillar), especially the latter running contrary to nature of Reddit. Reddit Is Tearing Itself Apart
via - redd.it/3bxua2 // &! bit.ly/1LMuYFb Reading some of the mods complaints and history, it seems Reddit management has a problem ... with management, internal communication and HR. plus a lack of leadership, vision, roadmap, plus lack of qualified engineers that help mods do their work, even thinks like approving pull requests for reddit opensource "Reddit Companion." All compounded by not making lots of money, instead using the round they've raised from A16Z to move to a more expensive office (see CEO yishan resigning over this move, and the stress of being the CEO of Reddit [meaning there is little deeper management structure and experience to fan out the work, responsibilities and stress.)!? << onforb.es/1IyJ5Mm // I think it is true if you describe internal reddit as still yet to grow out of chaos and daily little mistakes along the way that have start-ups with hockey stick growth!?
