What I Learned This Week About Tim Cook’s Apple | Re/code
[ always along the motto: extension of you, part of you. The new Apple under Jobs was NOT an overnight success! It build on its differentiation, strong base, a cult, a Tribe, 1000 True Fans, and build on it stride by stride. Most capitalistic company out of SV, no counter-culture out of largest corp on world. & can pull of iAd coup because it has monopsony! & Duopoly w Android. ] Many people love Apple, others despise it. But, even without Jobs, it cannot be ignored. There simply is no other company that combines such a high-quality hardware line with such well-regarded software platforms. A faltering Samsung has the former, but not the latter. A strong and admirable Google has the latter, but not the former. If you didn’t believe that before, this week’s event made it crystal clear, with once-bitter rivals like Microsoft and Adobe showing up onstage to boast about how well their products worked with new Apple hardware and software. [ sw & hw iteration = leverage comp advantage ]

Apple won’t release a television set, and that’s okay | PandoDaily
[F]or now it seems to have renewed its focus on its set-top box, which will reportedly receive a pretty substantial upgrade at Apple’s WWDC in June. It makes more sense for Apple to create something that plugs into consumers’ existing television sets than it does for the company to release a television set that will have to compete with “good enough” and premium products alike. Apple doesn’t enter commoditized markets. It allows other companies to fumble with new product categories — smartphones, tablets, smartwatches — and then releases a product of its own when it believes the timing is right. Are those categories eventually commoditized? Yep. There are good phones that cost less than $300 without a contract. Tablets are getting cheaper and cheaper. Smartwatches will eventually fall in price, too, assuming anybody buys them. // the champagne gold iPhone was a start ( ), then came the apple watch in gold and the new MacBook in champagne gold at the same time.

Passt also. [...] Apple Stores Will Implement Jewelry Store Practices To Help Sell The Apple Watch | TechCrunch
9to5Mac reports on a number of concrete changes that will be coming to Apple’s physical retail locations to help securely sell even the highest-priced Apple Watch, and to make sure potential customers get plenty of in-store exposure to the device and its many options. The Apple Watch will be stored in custom-made safes overnight, and while waiting for sale, complete with built-in MagSafe chargers (the new disc-shaped version introduced specifically for Apple Watch compatibility), and new display tables will be installed to allow users to get a close look at the wearable. Additional sales practices will be introduced to let store visitors try on various Apple Watch models, material and color options, and to wear them around the store to get a better idea of what it might be like to wear one full-time.

BBC News - Why did men stop wearing high heels?
"One of the best ways that status can be conveyed is through impracticality," says Semmelhack, adding that the upper classes have always used impractical, uncomfortable and luxurious clothing to announce their privileged status. "They aren't in the fields working and they don't have to walk far."

[...] "sich etwas gönnt"
