Hidden gay British histories take centre stage 50 years after decriminalisation | Culture | The Guardian
In July 1967 the Sexual Offences Act finally decriminalised private homosexual acts between men over 21 in England and Wales. It was a momentous, transformative moment, although it took until 1980 for the law to be changed in Scotland, and until 1982 in Northern Ireland.

Campaign launched highlighting economic case for pro-LGBT rights | World news | The Guardian
Fourteen global businesses, including Google and Royal Bank of Scotland, have launched a campaign to put forward the economic case for ending discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender individuals. Launched at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York, the Open for Business campaign published research showing economies, companies and individuals perform better in societies that support LGBT employees. The report by Open for Business spells out that nearly 80 countries criminalise consensual, adult same-sex activity, or use other laws to marginalise and persecute LGBT individuals.

I'm Trying to Be a Bisexual, But I'm Failing Miserably | VICE United Kingdom
It’s not a competition, I know, to be as gay as humanly possible in order to keep up with the Cleve Joneses. But it would be nice to be at least a little competently gay. A friend invited me over for dinner the other night exclusively to, I quickly found out, inform me she was “into me.” Upon receipt of this information, my eyes bugged out of my head like a Tex Avery cartoon, I internally “hummina-hummina-humminaed,” and immediately commenced to drinking an entire bottle of wine. I ultimately got the fuck outta Dodge before shit got real. Why the hell did I do that? That broad wanted me! I wanted her! Rejection wasn't lurking around the corner. It wasn't even in the building! And yet, still, I was terrified. Presumably because I didn't know what the hell I was doing? Because I'm a 31-year-old amateur? Christ. If only acting queer was as easy as being queer.

Flawless Trans Women Carmen Carrera and Laverne Cox Respond Flawlessly To Katie Couric’s Invasive Questions | Autostraddle
Cox said that the preoccupation with genitalia and transition objectifies trans women and distracts us from the real issues. [...] Then Cox hit it out of the park when she said, “by focusing on bodies we don’t focus on the lived realities of that oppression and that discrimination.” [...] Trans people are more than just our bodies, and these two women showed that in the absolute best way possible. + + + Carmen Carrera Discusses Transphobia On HuffPost Live - + + @7:25

BBC News - Scottish government in bid to tackle homophobia in sport
A study by the Equality Network last year revealed that three-fifths of people surveyed (79%) believe homophobia to be a problem in sport. The Out for Sport report found 62% of LGBT respondents had either witnessed or experienced homophobia or transphobia in sport, while just 5% thought enough was being done to tackle the issue. Almost three-fifths of LGBT people (57%) would be more likely to participate in sport if it was more LGBT-friendly "This issue needs leadership and sport governing bodies should have clear policies in place for LGBT people” Shona Robison / Sports Minister >> - >> It's not what gov bodies and sports bodies do (adopt appropriate LGBTQ+ policy), it is about people. <<

What About the Guys Who Do Fit the 'Gay Stereotype'? - Maya Dusenbery - The Atlantic
[ People like to put people in Labeled Boxes. ] "People think gayness has something to do with femininity when really we just need to erase that stereotype from our minds," he said. "LGBT people come in all different types and shapes and forms." [...] "In sports right now, there are two different stereotypes—that there are no gay male athletes, and every female athlete is a lesbian," [...] "Female professional athletes are already gender non-conforming. Male ones are still worshiped as exemplars of traditional masculinity." [...] There's no doubt those are stereotypes that need unpacking. Sociologists have long noted that homophobia is a fundamental ingredient of masculinity in modern American culture. [...] Ever since we've been asking about it in public opinion polls, men have been more likely than women to espouse anti-gay views—a fact that buttressed the theory that masculinity is intimately connected with homophobia[.]

Are Vocal Homophobes Really Just Homosexuals in the Closet? | Skeptikai
" our research suggests that some who oppose homosexuality do tacitly harbor same-sex attraction." [...] Is it possible that the link between vocal homophobia and homosexuality is the same as the link between the homophobic rhetoric and the porn consumption of a taboo population (e.g., racists searching for black people, homophobes searching for gay people)? I think it’s possible, but it’s very hard to say. Sexuality is a fundamentally natural part of one’s existence, whereas something like racism is totally environmentally learnt. Therefore, while one may feel guilty about hiding their sexuality, there may be no inherent reason to feel guilty about being a racist. But still, it’s something to consider.

Brynn Tannehill: Why 'LGB' and 'T' Belong Together
Sociologists categorize all of us as sexual minorities. One of the consequences of this is a phenomenon known as minority stress, which affects the LGB and T communities. [...] Millennials, even those who identify as LGB, are much more comfortable with the idea of gender fluidity, and a "big tent" with LGBTTQQIA. [...] Minorities make up society. [...] [...]

We don't need Suzanne Moore and Julie Burchill to police the borders of womanhood - Telegraph
It's easy for second-wave feminists to decide who gets to being to their club, because it's an ideology, not an identity. It's harder for them to say who's a woman and who isn't, though bless them for trying. This is a war they will not win.

Generation LGBTQIA -
Rise of post gay-rights movement because of the lack of T&Q and other in real-world LGBT environement. Because gender-nonconforming (Non-Cis) people feel lost in a publicly L&G-only accepting world. YOU DON'T NEED TO UNDERSTAND to ACCEPT, as long as we do not hurt you. Welcome to LGBTQ+ ... !

If the gay-rights movement today seems to revolve around same-sex marriage, this generation is seeking something more radical: an upending of gender roles beyond the binary of male/female. The core question isn’t whom they love, but who they are — that is, identity as distinct from sexual orientation.

But what to call this movement? Whereas “gay and lesbian” was once used to lump together various sexual minorities — and more recently “L.G.B.T.” to include bisexual and transgender — the new vanguard wants a broader, more inclusive abbreviation. “Youth today do not define themselves on the spectrum of L.G.B.T.,”

QT: Legalise gay marriage in UK devalues straight marriage? (08Mar12) - YouTube

However, legal experts questioned the Archbishop’s claim. “I can’t see why Parliament would need anyone’s approval to change the definition of marriage,” said Adam Wagner, a barrister and editor of the UK Human Rights Blog. “Parliament is sovereign, it can legislate what it likes.”

This week, the Government will begin a consultation on the issue, inviting the public to submit their views.

--- ---

If this does not go through (that gay couples can "marry"), one has to go to the European Human Rights Court and has to sue the Church and the Government which did (1) discriminate sexual relation ships and (2) claims the use of the word "marriage" (semantics) only for hetero sexual relationships.
