Anti-Semitism: Labour could face human rights probe - BBC News
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission said it was considering launching a formal investigation into anti-Semitism in the party.

The Labour Party said: "We completely reject any suggestion the party has acted unlawfully and will be co-operating fully with the EHRC."

The watchdog is asking the party to work with it to improve its processes.

Once the EHRC's formal letter is received by Labour, the party will have 14 days to respond to the concerns raised.

An Equality and Human Rights Commission spokesperson said: "Having received a number of complaints regarding anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, we believe Labour may have unlawfully discriminated against people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs.

"Our concerns are sufficient for us to consider using our statutory enforcement powers.

"As set out in our enforcement policy, we are now engaging with the Labour Party to give them an opportunity to respond."

Ken Clarke: Tories had deal with Rupert Murdoch for 2010 election | Politics | The Guardian
David Cameron may have done “some sort of a deal” with Rupert Murdoch to win the Sun’s support for the Conservatives in the 2010 general election, Ken Clarke, the former justice secretary, has claimed.

“Quite how David Cameron got the Sun out of the hands of Gordon Brown I shall never know,” Clarke said. “Rupert would never let Tony [Blair – Brown’s predecessor] down because Tony had backed the Iraq war. Maybe it was some sort of a deal. David would not tell me what it was. Suddenly we got the Murdoch empire on our side.”

The talk of May doing a Michael Howard, the nadir of the Tories previous electoral irrelevance who allowed the space for the Cameroons to emerge, misses the point. PR man Cameron may have been a hollow technocrat, but at least he at least had a strategy: turning the Conservatives into New Labour. The Tories now have neither a play nor principle in mind. Taibbi: Goodbye, and Good Riddance, to Centrism - Rolling Stone
In December, Barack Obama said he wasn't worried about the "Corbynization" of American politics because "the Democratic Party has stayed pretty grounded in fact and reality." [...] For decades pundits and pols have been telling progressive voters they don't have the juice to make real demands, and must make alliances with more "moderate" and presumably more numerous "centrists" in order to avoid becoming the subjects of right-wing monsters like Reagan/Bush/Bush/Trump.

Voters for decades were conned into thinking they were noisome minorities whose best path to influence is to make peace with the mightier "center," which inevitably turns out to support military interventionism, fewer taxes for the rich, corporate deregulation and a ban on unrealistic "giveaway" proposals like free higher education. Those are the realistic, moderate, popular ideas, we're told. [...] Here and abroad, voters in other words stopped deferring to politicians and media figures and began making their own decisions about what is and is not realistic.

Jeremy Corbyn has attracted "socialism fans", not Labour voters
centrist left was infiltrated my outright socialists - Although Corbyn was originally elected with broad support from existing members of the party, his power base within it now primarily consists of people who joined it in order to re-shape it in his image and their own. These people might best be thought of as "socialism fans", and are quite different from traditional Labour Party members and voters. They are people who joined the party not because they agreed with its goals and wanted to help it achieve them, but because they identified with the culture of Leftism and sought an active form of cultural participation — much as theatre buffs might join an amateur dramatics club, or history enthusiasts might join a medieval re-enactment society.

[ there is no backbench in Parliament and Lords, there is no opposition in parliament and lords, and then the parliament attacks the media ] A group of 72 MPs have written to the BBC accusing it of being pessimistic and skewed in its Brexit coverage - in the months since the vote on the EU.

Alex Salmond has mocked the leadership divisions plaguing Labour and the Conservatives by calling for MPs to spend a week debating "political backstabbing".

The former first minister of Scotland described Labour MPs as "rank amateurs" in their attempts to dislodge Jeremy Corbyn when compared with Michael Gove's bid to become the next Tory prime minister.

Mr Salmond labelled Justice Secretary Mr Gove as "Lord Macbeth" for having "dispatched" Prime Minister David Cameron before knocking Boris Johnson out of the Tory leadership race.
