Coming back to frontend after 10 days off : webdev
Upvoted: Hey guys, I've been away on vacation and without any internet access for the past 10 days. Just wondering what have I missed? Is frontend development still using webpack, react, vue, and angular? Has Angular 12 been released yet? I heard they fix a lot of the current issues in that release. Is css still being used or is javascript used to create everything? I'd appreciate it if you all would let me know if I've missed out on any breaking changes since I've been away from the industry. via /r/webdev

Your own serverless REST endpoint to sanely score password strength while checking against 5.1 billion pwned accounts: 5 min. deployment on Lambda with automatic https and AWS gateway configuration : webdev
Upvoted: First things first - the goods: https://ift.tt/2KxLjjW know tr0ub4dor password policies are bullshit... nonetheless, we need some kind of requirements in place for those 90% of users who happen to suck at passwords.Luckily, the smart folks at Dropbox maintain the awesome (albeit massive) zxcvbn library for estimating password strength practically. And not long ago, Troy Hunt released v2 of his pwnedpasswords API. The latter is especially cool as it allows querying haveibeenpwned without ever sending a full password over the wire.So I built a funny little component for my app which leveraged both and, like any responsible developer today, promptly tweeted it. Mr. Hunt himself took note, declared it as "... awesome 😎" and unleashed a 3-day tsunami of 'security researcher' circlejerking. But it led me to me realize I made something potentially useful worth sharing as FOSS (...finally)The link up top is that hopefully-potentially-finally-useful thing. Here how I use it in my own app; if you use it to make your own useful thing, please share! (...unless it's yet another outraged lecture on hash inference, in which case please spare me because I just had the carpets cleaned) via /r/webdev

Best Javascript learning resource that you think (almost) no one is aware of : javascript
Upvoted: There's a few courses/tutorials/teachers/resources that always get mentioned when someone is asking for recommendations in the Javascript ecosystem, but I'm sure that you all have "that particular one" that, for whatever reason, is kinda underrated or unknown. We'll, now is the time! via /r/javascript

Cards
Some of the components I've explored here have specific standardized requirements in order to work as expected. Tab interfaces, for example, have a prescribed structure and a set of interaction behaviors as mandated by the WAI-ARIA specification.

Can we get a megathread on breaking away from Google? : privacy
Upvoted: EDIT: I'm currently working on the megathread, if anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them along with the great ones already mentioned below!EDIT 2: Wow, I didn't realize how popular this would be! I'm actually almost finished formulating a list of replacements for most Google services, it's been great to see all the open source and privacy focused stuff out there. It should be posted sometime in the next few days, I just have to get formatting worked out and a few more services checked off. Thanks to everyone in the comments for all the great suggestions!EDIT 3: I've decided to call it Google Cleanse, its a bit of a joke because it sounds like the kind of short and snappy name Google would come up with for a new service.I feel like a megathread would be very beneficial to people looking to break away from Google and Google services. Things such as browsers, search engines, YouTube mobile app replacements, drive/docs alternatives, Play Services (Store, Music, Movies/TV, Games), Maps, Gmail, Calendar, and really everything Google. Essentially, everything managed by Google or directly related to Google in some form should have a replacement. If people are willing to do this, that would be amazing. I could try to make it, but I haven't completely broken away, but if people are willing to comment on this thread or PM me with alternatives or suggestions, I am more than happy to formulate a megathread. And, once it's posted, it would be very helpful if the mods could Sticky it and update the sidebar.Let's make this happen, r/privacy!! via /r/privacy
